This really doesn't go under good times...but my grandpa's 83rd birthday is SUnday and unfortunately could be his last. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last week and will probably try chemo soon.
He was given 6 months without chemo and 9 months with. We are still praying for a miracle though.
He doesn't really need or want anything...He would be happy just us coming over.
My mom suggested something that he can use now..Like a gift cert to a local restaurant...or a gift for gas or a car wash.
They seem so impersonal though..
Do you have any other ideas?
Or even something the kids could do?

What about fixing his favorite meal and freezing it for him to eat when he wants something. Or even just a coupon book with different things in it to help him around the house or something. Or even a pretty potted plant to brighten up his house. Do you have time to put together a quick small scrapbook of pics with the kids and him together? Are there any books he might like? Sorry, I don't know but am trying to think of things that he might enjoy that you might be able to enjoy after he is gone.
I am so sorry to hear about your grandpa. My grandfather died from the same thing several years ago.

What about a bunch of DVDs? You said in another thread he's considering treatment, so maybe while he's resting after that he could watch some movies.

I did the scrapbook thing last year for them, but I might get it back from them and add to it....
I will also ask about books.. They usually go to the library but he may not be feeling up to it during chemo..
Thanks so much for all your ideas!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather's diagnosis. I hope you get a miracle.
I was going to suggest a photo album (maybe some old family pictures too). Related to your book comment, maybe some books on tape / CD? I think there are things like Netflix for books on CD. If he doesn't feel up to reading but would enjoy books.

Maybe you could do a scrapbook page of him and the kids but frame it so he can look at it all of the time.

A new magazine subscription so he'd have something to read?
I like the idea of a plant too. It would give him something to take care of. Along those lines, a very low maintenance pet, like a fish?
