View Full Version : Websites for toddlers
sheila February 27th, 2006, 12:01 PM My girls love disney, sesame and nickjr. Maggie is getting pretty good at playing the games, too.
A friend turned me on to www.dltk-kids.com which has some great little crafts, letters to trace, letter of the week things, and scissor practice as well.
Another friend showed me www.starfall.com and my kids absolutely love it. And I am a big fan, too. It is all about learning to read. It starts with letters and has some cool letter sound movies (not really movies, but it's the best word I can think of at the moment). And then it has other stories where the kids can click on the words and they sound them out.
Do you or your kids have any favorites?
Alyssa February 27th, 2006, 12:48 PM The boys also love Disney & Sesame. Their other favorite is http://www2.nhl.com/kids/subpage/games.html There is a Memory-type game there that they play a lot (called Penalty Box). Once in a while we'll also go to Noggin.com.
I'm looking for a good preschooler-friendly fact site. Yesterday they wanted to look up stuff on human skeletons and so I just Googled it, and found some pictures and such - and that lead to more questions about spider skeletons and then butteflies. ( :dunno: ) So, I found some school-aged sites that were good in information but not in pictures. Anyone know a informational site that is picture heavy?
sheila February 27th, 2006, 01:19 PM There is www.yahooligans.com which is a search geared for kids, but I don't know how picture intensive it is... it is more about returning kid-friendly results.
Alyssa February 27th, 2006, 01:37 PM Thanks Sheila - that might just help return better results.
Stacey February 28th, 2006, 01:24 AM Maia usually does Noggin, Nick Jr. or Playhouse Disney. It really amazed us how quickly she got good at the games.
I'm looking forward to doing that Starfall one with her. That one's cool.
Stacey February 28th, 2006, 01:30 AM Alyssa, I've been wondering about toddler-friendly informational sites too. I haven't ever looked for any though. I mostly think of stuff like this when I'm not actually at a computer.
Have you tried Discovery Kids (http://kids.discovery.com/) or National Geographic Kids (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/kids/)? (Again, I haven't looked around at these, so they might not fit what you're looking for.)

Melissa March 24th, 2006, 08:20 PM Katie loves www.mothergoose.com There are a couple younger toddler games on there. Unfortunately, they decided to make their babykeys game pay only, which was a REAL bummer. It is only $6 or so, but still.
Bonnie March 24th, 2006, 11:21 PM Mostly Noggin, but since we got the new computer, I haven't let her on yet. I am going to check out some of these, particularly starfall.
