Own your own business?

Okay, I desperately want to own my own business someday. I am not one who works under a boss very well, and I want to be the boss. But, I would love love love to open a childrens clothing boutique..I would sell the high end stuff and also some everyday necessities and lots and lots of strollers. Okay, off base there, but if you own your own business tell me about it. How you got it, what it's like to maintain, would you do it again, how long to make profits, etc. I dont' mean to be nosy, but this is something I am really really interested in.

I don't own a business, but one thing you might want to consider is buying an existing business rather than starting one from scratch. Some friends of ours did that and they said it's been great.

I basically sub-contract, but 'technically' own my own company. My best advice is to make sure you use a good accountant/bookkeeper and try not to do it yourself, especially if you have employees. (and I'm not just saying this becaues I'm an accountant) A lot of small business owners get themselves into trouble because of tax/payroll issues. I only work with small companies, and even the smartest business person needs to hire the best professionals they can afford. Good luck!

I have my own law firm. It's not hard to maintain and I made a profit immediately. It is a lot different than opening a store! Good luck!

I had my own daycare center for 6 months. We started from scratch and unfortunately, we ran out of money fast!! :( Most of our problem was the location. Had we been able to get to our full capacity (20 kids) and most of those be full time, I believe we would have been okay. We had to close at the end Of December because of finances. We are still looking to relocate to a better location in the future.
