My IVF center requires prescription prenates. OTC prenates are NOT regulated by the FDA (much like health store supplements) and can have very different contents than what the label says. I'd call your doc and have them call in another scrip to your pharmacy.

I called and they are going to call one in for me..
She said if it doesn't agree with me, to call back and they can get me something else..
They only effect I had before was constipation so we'll see how they go I guess!

If they cause a little nausea you can take them right before bedtime and that may help. Best of luck to you for #3, Kara!!! :crossfing

My OB offices (I've gone to 2 different ones) both recommended RX because they were more potent. At least for me, there wasn't a big price difference with my RX plan.

My OB prefers patients take the Rx ones. I asked the pharmacist and she said a big difference is the amount of folic acid.

I took natural ones from a health food store. My doctor actually suggested them. No nausea, no constipation.

The ones that I suggest to all my clients are the Rainbow Light Prenatals. Of course the ones that you have to take like six a day of are better but the one a day ones aren't too bad.

The prescription ones are the only ones that contain 1 (whatever unit) of folic acid. The OTC ones only have 400 micro of that unit.

My doctor said they were exactly the same, just to make sure I was taking one with 800 mcg of folic acid. I couldn't find one, so I am taking an OTC women's vitamin plus a folic acid supplement. She had no problem with this. My insurance won't let you get more than a 30 day supply and I was tired of paying $15/month and having to go to the pharmacy every month to get the vitamins. I bought a year's supply at Costco for $27 for the two vitamins.

Too much of folic acid is as bad as not enough. You all know that all the pasta/bread products, cereals etc are fortified with the folic acid.

I am taking CVS brand and feel much better than when I was taking RX brand paying big bucks for it (the insurance did not cover it and so the flexible spending account exluded the vitamins). We had to pay like 60 dollars for 100 pills and I had to take 2 a day, felt really bad, nauseaus etc. Got some from CVS OTC-just great (less than 5 dollars). My doctor said it's no difference between them (first RX prenatal were prescribed by other doc).
