I am having a serious problem with Riley at the moment.... he is now 2yrs 4 months and for the last two weeks he has been putting his hands in his nappy when he poo's, this is only happening if he does a poo at bedtime or early in the morning.

Its disgusting and I don't know how to get him to stop. One morning I found him lying in bed both hands covered in poo and it all wiped on his PJ's and bedsheets :woa: that was the first time... I told him that it was really dirty and he needs to tell Mummy when he does a poo so we can clean it up.

he has done it a few more times but with out the wiping on clothes or sheets, just putting him hands in it.

And tonight just 20 minutes ago he came walking out of the bedroom with his hands out infront of him like he was a surgeon who just washed his hands, and they were COVERED in poop :fado:

HELP! how do I get him to stop... Aiden NEVER did this EVER so its a first for me, has anyone else had this problem?

I feel your pain! Too bad it's summer there because the sleeper pajamas help with that problem in winter. With Saxon we just had to check on him every 5 minutes to catch a poo before he got into it.

Good luck!

Two words: Diaper shirt. A very good friend of mine had the same problem (briefly) with her son. It only lasted about a month or so, but it was plenty disgusting and unsettling. He covered our Dora pullout couch with poop. :jawdrop: It wasn't the first time he had done it here either. After she started putting him in a diaper shirt, he sort of 'forgot' he ever had this disgusting habit.

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and admit that I too was a poop smearer as a baby, according to my mothers delightful tales. Eventually, we all grow out of this.

What is a diaper shirt? Like a onesie? Saxon could reach in through the bottom of a onesie.

A diaper shirt is the same thing as a onesie. If you have one of those on under the pants/pajama pants they can't get into the diaper.

Eww. :dead: Luckily none of my kids have done this (yet). Sam does take his nappy off when he's done a poo though and runs around with poo all over his bum. If I don't catch him immediately we end up with poo all over the place. The other day I noticed he was naked and playing with his bum. I walked over to him and he handed me a poo :dead: Not fun!

Good luck Deb! I'd try the onesie idea b/c I can't think of anything better!

 okay I had to laugh at that one!!!

Hmmm a onsie's a good idea, I don't have any his size but that can be easily fixed with a trip down to the shops.... although I can still imagine him reaching under it but if I put his PJ's on top he might not..... although its summer and I sometimes don't put anything bar a singlet and diaper on him....

I will give it a go... thanks.. I tell you, what a GROSS habit this one is!!!

Clare: I have had both my kids do that before, although they didn't hand me a poo  just running around naked with pooey bums  the joys of parenthood, thank god I don't have white furniture!

Deb, if he can get the onesie off to get to the diaper, you might try "double bagging" him so to speak. Put on one diaper then the onesie and then put ANOTHER diaper on him BACKWARDS. That'll make it harder for him to get to the fasteners on the second diaper since they are in the back. Good luck - eeewwww!

No advice because Caroline can't handle dirty hands so I knew she would NEVER do something like this, but my brother was a poo-grabber too (it explains alot about him, actually.... :lol2: I still remember going with my mother to get him up from a nap and finding out that he had gotten his diaper off and smeared poop all over the crib, sheets, blankets, stuffed animals, his clothes, his FACE, and the mint-green wall behind the crib! I thought my mother was going to have a stroke.

Sorry Deb, if my brother is any indication, you should line Riley up for intensive therapy NOW! :silly:
