Anyone other than me?

For medical reasons I have to wait until March 2004 at which time I will be 37, turning 38 in July. I hope it doesn't take that long. I was 34 when Mason was conceived, 35 when he was born.

I'm 35 with a 2 year old and 9 month old. If we decide to TTC again it wont' be until this time next year making me 37 when we have our next child.

I'm almost 35 - can I join too? I'll be 35 in March and we're ttc right now too so we'll be facing the potential of increased testing, etc too.

PS. I just noticed we all have only boys.... :bteddy:

Well, I must be the oldest for now! I was 39 when I had my son, Kyle in March of 2003. I am 40 and will turn 41 in May, 2004 - We are TTC#2.

Hi Ladies! Hmm, all boys, interesting. My Mom has put in an order for twin girls with curly hair. We'll see what happens. :)

I'll be 35 in April and am TTC now, so can I join? Oh, and I have a son too. All boy moms, weird!

Lora
December 14th, 2003, 12:58 PM
Very interesting that we have all boys! Everyone tells me that boys are easier to raise. Maybe we all have boys so it will be easier for us "older" moms! :D I would love to have another boy if we try again but I know my Mom will be rooting for a girl. :rahrah: She loves her Grandsons but I know she wouldn't mind a Granddaugher.

Just turned 37, but we haven't decided if we are going to TTC. If we do, it will be in the next year though.

wow, that is wierd we all have boys. secretly i'm hoping my next is a boy as well.

so we'll be facing the potential of increased testing, etc too.

the only age related test i took last time was the amnio (35 is the 'magic' age isn't it  ). i declined the afp and went straight for the amnio. i was considering not doing amnio next time, but dh wants me too. we originally had it done so we would be prepared for anything that might be wrong....

Got to say the amnio scares me the most. Does it not hurt? (needle wimp here)

kim
December 16th, 2003, 09:51 AM
nope, doesn't hurt AT ALL, just a little prick! just don't look at the needle, it's really long. i kept my eyes on dh, and then when it was in i just watched the monitor.

the whole procedure is not as scary as i thought it would be. to be safe i took it easy for the rest of the day.

Hi Everyone. I am not going to take the AFP or the amnio. My Doc in Victoria (I miss her SO much!) said the amnio only tests for Trisomy 13, 18 and 21. She said 13 and 18 are not compatible with life so they aren't going to make it anyway no matter when you find out, and Trisomy 21 is Down's Syndrome which is compatible with life. So if you aren't willing to terminate for any of those, then there is no point except to know ahead of time. My Doc in Victoria never took any of those tests.

I will have to have super close monitoring because of my complete molar pregnancy (a sperm fertilized an egg with no genetic information) and the fact it has recurred twice already. I guess there is a slim chance of it recurring again when the pregnancy hormones are surging around. I should get tons of blood tests at the beginning to monitor my hCG levels and an early ultrasound at about 7 weeks to see if there is a baby and if so a heartbeat. I think they also test the placenta after the baby is born to see if there is molar tissue in it. I will have to ask about that.

I go to the OB on Dec 22nd for my initial visit and to see what his opinion is on my TTC in March. My gyne-oncologist in another city said I could, so I'm hoping he agrees. I've never had an OB before, so that'll be differnt for me. :)

When is everyone planning to TTC?

jill, you better get cracking!

beverly - good luck!

we'll be going for #2 in feb....or maybe next month....sometimes i think i'm insane for even considering having another. for example, yesterday i was really ill, stomach issues and nausea. i went to work per usual, we had an 'outing' but i felt so sick i left around 2:30, picked up ds from daycare and went home. dealing with him while nauseous is a nightmare!!!!!! wtf am i gonna do when i get m/s?

Same here. I was 39 when I was pregnant with Kyle and we decided we wanted an amnio - My doctor did not force me to have one, left it up to us, but I wanted it done so we would be prepared - so glad we did, knowing that nothing was wrong was wonderful!!

Jennie - The amnio scared the hell out of me at first, but it is over in less than 3 minutes. It only felt like deep cramps. Heck, my epidural was more painful than the amnio and I didn't think that was bad.

Jennie

OK - now you've got me freaking out.... my epidural took 3 attempts (and painful ones at that!)! :errr:

We didn't have any testing done with my last pregnancy and my OB supported our decision. If we TTC again we probably won't have AFP or amnio testing done. We'll just rely on the ultrasound to identify any potential problems.

I want to start TTC, but right now we are not in the shape to. We have to be more stable...financially and other things. Like where in the hell are we going to put our final roots, the US or Canada (Dave has to find a job in the US and I can't work in Canada at this time)

Hmmm...lots of Canadians here.

Well, a "younger" older mom but a mom of a boy here!

I am 33 and just had our first baby. However, if we have another I'll be 35 by the time we TTC.

This is a great thread to start. :aok:

I'm 38 (39 in March). I had to miscarriages. I'm hoping to get pg. I'm not really preventing it, so if it happens it happens. I really don't want m/c #3 to happen, so my endo doctor is prepared to do what she can to prevent it (I have mild PCOS..used to be full blown before I lost some weight), and I have a 100% blocked right tube. The odds are necessarily in my favour, but my last pg was 6 yrs ago, so there is still hope.

Sad news for me. My new OB says I have to wait until September 2nd to TTC because that is a year from when my hCG returned to normal. I was too busy crying to tell him that the gyne-oncologist I had before I moved said I could try in 6 months which is March. I don't know if I should call him back or not. He did agree to do my pelvic in June rather than my family doctor and we can talk more then he said. I had a sad day today.

:hug99: bev. i'm sorry to hear that. i guess the good news is that you CAN try again!

Bev
December 26th, 2003, 02:21 PM
Yes, at least I can try again. But I took the matter into my own hands. I wrote out a big 2 page letter detailing my experience with the molar pregnancy (or if you want to wrap your tongue around it, my Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia!) and my history of my good pregnancy with Mason, my age, the 3 differing opinions I have on when I can TTC and I emailed it to the New England Trophoblastic Disease Center at Brigham & Women's Hospital (Harvard Teaching Hospital) in Boston. They are deemed to be the experts in this, so we'll see what their opinion is, if they decide to answer me. I am still debating calling the OB back to tell him the gyne-onc said I could TTC in March. I was too upset at the time to tell him that.

Bev, I'll be crossing my fingers for you! :crossfing

And Susan, I'm here now, so you aren't the oldest!

I'll be TTC as soon as Bob gets off the plane (okay, as soon as we get home!) so that'll be in april!!!!! And I'll still be 41.
Wiggles was born when I was 40. I went for the amnio and it was horrible for me! Sorry, Jennie! They said the baby was moving around too much so they just had the needle in my stomach but not my uterus. When they tried to get it in the uterus it kept "bouncing" off! Owie!!! I just cried and went home. They said that your uterus changes after 17-18 weeks or so and I guess I was just a little early. Anyway, I wouldn't go back. Some of the reasons were for the ones mentioned: it only detects a couple of problems. And at 18 weeks I don't know that I would terminate. So, we had a huge sonogram done with genetic counselling and there was nothing to indicate that our ages were a problem or anything was wrong with Wiggles.
Anyway, I'm here!!!!!

I tried 3 times posting in here yesterday and finally gave up!

I was going to write: So, what's going on? Anybody pregnant yet? I am seeing my OB tomorrow about TTC in March whether he likes it or not, so we'll see what he says. :) Baby dust to all! ~+~+~+~+~+~~+~+~+~

Congratulations Kim!

It looks like DH and I have finally come to a decision about TTC #3. We both feel that there is room for one more in our family but right now I am just not ready to try again. Our plan is to wait until at least this Fall and then decide when we want to try again. I would like to enjoy some more time with just Christopher and Patrick before we try again. That means that I will be at least 38 by the time our next baby comes.

Tracey
March 3rd, 2004, 07:16 AM
Hi ladies! My name is Tracey and I am due with my first right around my 36th birthday in the middle of August. I have to say that if I didn't "old" before trying to conceive and actually being pregnant, I do now. A little history, my DH is a cancer survivor and, thus, we were infertility patients for about a year and a half. The pressure to get to an IVF cycle FAST due to age was enormous. After you hit 35, the cost for IVF increases simply due to fertility odds and age.

In November I happened to get pregnant natually. Now all I hear from my OB and perinatalist is about my "advanced maternal age". Now, I have never been one to get uptight about my age. I didn't freak when I turned 30 or anything like that. But I have to say, that this has all really affected me and messed with my head a bit! I will say that if we choose to try for another child after this one, I will try within a year. Partly due to age (I really don't want to be running after a toddler at 45), but also due to our infertility history.

Oh...and by the way I am choosing to have an amnio done next week and yes, it is due to my age and the risks involved.

Good luck to all!
Tracey

Congratulations, Tracey!!!! Both for getting pregnant and for your husband being a cancer survivor!
And, yes, once you're over 35 you're considered "advanced maternal age" ... I had my first son at 40. I'm trying for as many more as I can before I can't have any more. Now, I just have to get my husband in the country!
Have a wonderfully happy and healthy pregnancy!!!!

March 30th, 2004, 09:45 PM
We should really get this thread going more. My first cycle officially TTC was a bust, but that's okay, the EDD would have been the same as the 'mole' and that's too weird. Maybe this time, if so the EDD will be Mason's birthday. Which sucks for him, but he was 2 weeks early so if that follows along, then no worries. :)

Michelear
April 4th, 2004, 01:00 AM
Beverly, you know, my due date would be the same for my son if I conceived this next cycle. But that'll be our first with my husband home and I don't see us doing that! However it would be nice! My brother and I have birthdays 2 years and 3 days apart. It wasn't bad...

Bev

Are you doing anything special to conceive? Besides the obvious? I'm going to get ovulation predictor strips this time. To be certain that we "try" at the right time. How does everyone feel about how often during your fertile period? My dr mentioned every other day to help us after we'd been trying several months. However, we didn't know it but we were pregnant at the time! So, I think we were still doing it every day.

Bev
April 5th, 2004, 07:38 PM
I've only just been given the green light by the Doc, so I'm REALLY trying hard not to stress about it, so I am only tracking CM. I have fairly regular cycles and it only took 3 months of charting for Mason, so I'm hoping something similar. I think we'll try every day as CD14 is next Tuesday so if we go for broke on the long weekend, something should happen! I'm not temping because my sleep has been quite crappy. I am also taking EPO and green tea for the CM.

Are you doing anything other than OPKs?

Michelear
April 14th, 2004, 03:58 AM
I can finally come back here... My husband will be back soon.
Bev, I'm not doing anything since my husband's been at war. But we'll be working on it soon! We're just going to do the OPKs. I'm pretty regular.
How are you doing?

Hey Michele, I'm glad your husband is finally coming home, I hope he doesn't have to go back. And the timing couldn't be better eh? :awink: I am CD 16 now. I am hoping my Easter "Egg Hunt" worked! :)

Anyone else going to check in?

Hi ...I am 38 and TTC my 2nd :)...DH and I struggled with IF for a long time before we had our daughter in 2002. I am not sure if we will be able to have another without medical intervention but I am going to try...I would love to see that +++ test once!

Hi Kim! :wavey: Good luck to you. My Easter Egg Hunt was not successful. I'm not sure what went on but my cycle was only 25 days! Which would mean I O'd around CD11, way before I had EWCM, so I don't know. Better luck this time! :crossfing Is DH back Michele?

Hey guys, I am 36, will be 37 in July and am going to try for #2 September or October. I hate to admit to some of you but I got PG within 2 weeks of going off of BC of 14 years last time. I doubt it will be that easy this time, but you never know. So, if all goes well, I will either be 37 or 38 by the time #2 is born. I did not do an amnio for #1 in the beginning, because my tests were negative. I did have to do an amnio the day before I delivered to see if there was enough fluid, hence I delivered early. It wasn't too bad, but I think DH will want an amnio if the tests don't come back negative next time. Good luck to all of you who are TTC now! Baby dust to you...

Congratulations Michele! It's great to see one of us get a +hpt. I am still hoping to try for #3 in the fall but I am still a bit nervous about my age working against me. I never had any problems getting pregnant the first two times (actually we got pregnant on our first try each time) but being over 35 this time has me a bit concerned.
