Who uses them? What's your favorite kind of material?

That's pretty much all I use and I don't know the difference in fabrics as they were all picked up as parts of lots or at second hand stores. Some I know are birdseye but the others mystfy me  . I'm going to need some for the next baby so I've been thinking a lot about it lately. I have some, so I'll need two dozen.

I see chinese, cotton, indian, gauze, bleached, unbleached, ect... I'm considering getting these ones: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2379149290&category=26269&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1 but she has others that look tempting.

It's a good thing I love shopping for diapers

I prefer unbleached cotton cpf's. Although I would like to try some hemp ones since Riley is such a heavy wetter.
Birdseye weave doesn't hold squat IMO  Or maybe he just pees a river.

I like the bleached CPFs. We aren't using as many now though because Mary is too wiggly for me to get it on her. We definately use them at night though and then we go pinless to send her to daycare in them.

We do... we use a snappi instead of pins because I'd be terrified to prick Nick.

I use Chinese pre-folds and they work really well. They are very absorbant. I use them with snappi clips and Proraps.

I have 12 infant bleached ones I bought from Granite Smith on e Bay. So far they have held up well and they are very absorbant. I used them with a snapi and a cover when Isaiah was smaller and now I just use them as inserts in my wonderoos. I also have 4 hemp Doodle Bottoms prefolds and I use them over night in my pocket diapers. Ive tried just useing them with a cover but I don't like to do that now as Isaiah squrims soo much its too hard to get them on him. If I could start over I think Id have gotten unbleached as the bleached ones show more stains, though they do sun well here in AZ.

I hate snappis. I know a lot of people love them, but I just dont' and I try them every once in a while to be sure  . Right now they cut into his stomach unless I use toddler prefolds, which are huge on him. I tried when he was smaller, but they sometimes came loose or he would pick at them until they came off then the teeth would cut into his leg. Also after using them, I noticed some of my favorite prefolds were slightly torn where they were attached with the snappi. I'm a pin girl all the way!

I am also wondering what the difference between bleached and unbleached is. I have some infant ones that seem to be unbleached (I haven't used them yet) and everything else seems to be bleached so I haven't been able to compare the difference.

I think I've pretty much decided what I'm going to get, mostly based on cost (UBCPF). I'm just waiting for some cover auctions to end so I can just get them all at once and save on shipping :)

The unbleached are a little more absorbant and hide stains better.

I know this is old, but...

We have a dozen infant size bleached Chinese prefolds, 4X8X4, which are really nice, but my daughter is almost out of them, size-wise. We also have a dozen unbleached Indian combed cotton prefolds, 4X8X4, large/premium size, that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. They are even heavier than the Chinese prefolds, and are super-absorbant and super-soft. I either pin and use a Prorap (or pull-up vinyl cover in a pinch), or just fold & lay them in the Proraps. I plan on ordering more of the Indian ones for sure. I need probably 2 more dozen or so, just to be safe, but am doing it bit by bit.

I had gotten a pack of Gerber birdseye prefolds from Wal-Mart and they are just no good for much of anything, to be honest with you. Soak right through (they're only 2X4X2 as it is, and the middle is some kind of polyester filling or something).

So, do you have to use a snappi or pins? I thought some people used nothing but a wrap - how does that work? I have never done this so I'm confused. Also, are there different types of covers or wraps that people use? or are they all basically the same? I have some from about 8 years ago from a friend, but I doubt that I could use those now.

Sometimes I will just lay the prefold into the cover/wrap and just velcro/snap it shut. It doesn't always hold poo in as good as if it were pinned/snappi'd (at least for us, but Ethan's BM's are really messy), but it's a lot easier. There are a lot of different covers and wraps out there. Some pull on, some have velcro or aplix, some have snaps and a person's preference may vary. What are the ones like that your friend gave you? I've known of people using diapers and covers on their kids that they themselves used; it's just a matter of preference.
