I was talking to a friend the other day and she mentioned that her sister has a large family - 3 kids. That got me thinking... in your opinion, how many children make up a big family?

View Full Version : What constitutes a "big" family? JillMelissa February 13th, 2004, 03:21 PM I was talking to a friend the other day and she mentioned that her sister has a large family - 3 kids. That got me thinking... in your opinion, how many children make up a big family? Brooke February 13th, 2004, 03:23 PM I agree - 3 or more kids is a "big" family to me. I'm one of 2 kids and I didn't think my family was big. Nocona February 13th, 2004, 03:29 PM I was one of 3, so I'd say 4 or more is "big". These days, though, 3 kids is big. Amy February 13th, 2004, 03:34 PM I don't think 3 is large at all...DH and I are each one of 3, and we haven't ruled it out for ourselves. I tend to look at 4 or more as 'large'. Dennis February 13th, 2004, 03:36 PM I'd say 4 kids is a big family. I don't think 3 is. Dennis Karen&Tess February 13th, 2004, 03:49 PM I agree with some of the others. I grew up in a family of three kids. So I think four or more is a big family. TtownAnne February 13th, 2004, 04:10 PM Well, my mom and dad are one of seven and eight, respectively! :) For my own personal family, however, I would think 4 constitutes LARGE. kim February 13th, 2004, 04:18 PM i'm one of 5 so i think 5 or more is big. Nichole February 13th, 2004, 04:41 PM I'm one of 4, and I think that's where big starts. Marcella February 13th, 2004, 08:45 PM I don't think 3 children is "big" at all. Four is bordering on big, and 5 or more is definitely big. (I'm one of three children) SarahK February 13th, 2004, 08:48 PM I think 4 or 5 is where big starts. happysmileylady February 13th, 2004, 09:33 PM I don't know really. I am the oldest of four, so I don't really consider that big. I want to have five kids, but I consider that big because I know we couldn't afford it (unless DH suddenly got some $100,000 a year job:lol: ) harmonielyn February 14th, 2004, 01:16 AM I think of a family with 4+ kids as 'big'. I think a family with 3 kids is normal. Karri February 14th, 2004, 10:44 PM I am one of 3, so I dont think 3 is big at all. I would say 4 is starting to get big, but its not officially big till you have 5 kids mcox February 15th, 2004, 12:45 AM Well, I grew up as the oldest of 3 and then when the youngest was 18, my parents adopted 2 more!! So now I'm the oldest of 6!! That is definitely a big family to me. Cazzle February 15th, 2004, 02:14 AM I'm from a family of 2. I think 4 or more is a big family. It's funny, from the first five responses it looked like a big family has one more child than the number in your own family  Barb February 15th, 2004, 10:20 AM I think 4 or more is big. Kate February 15th, 2004, 03:28 PM Four or more is big to me. I am the youngest of three and DH is the oldest of three. Shanna February 15th, 2004, 03:45 PM I'm the oldest of three and DH is an only. I kinda think 4 kids is big, but in this area, its not uncommon....5 kids is definitely big! :) Mandi February 16th, 2004, 09:13 AM I'm one of 3, DH is one of 4. I think 4+ is big. Dawn February 17th, 2004, 09:42 AM I'm one of 4, and I think that's where big starts.Me too. I'm one out of 4 girls, and for me 4 or more is big. DH is one of 3. My parents are from big families: Mom is one of 7 and Dad is one of 5. mommytheresa February 17th, 2004, 10:22 AM I'm one of 4, and I think that's where big starts. Same here! |
