when they were in the nicu, my babies were pretty good at pooping. as time has gone on, they have gotten progressively worse. they just cant seem to do it on their own.
is this normal for preemies? is there anything i can do to help them?? i've tried karo (doesnt work), and i hate to use anal stim (thermometer, supposotories), but we do them if needed.

My girls have had some constipation issues too... They were champion poopers in NICU as well! I've used 2 oz warm apple or pear juice to 2 oz warm water and usually within an hour, poosplosion :)

My Ped recommends using 1 ounce warm pear juice to one ounce warm water. Warm is better than cold. It worked for us everytime!

Thanks, ladies.
We've been using prune juice in some bottles of EBM and its had success. It makes the spit up pretty nasty, though. So yesterday I tried the warm pear/water. With Elliott, he had a nice big poop within 4 hours. But it hasnt done jack w/ Norah. I am trying again today. She isnt too crazy about it and I hate to pump her too full of juice. So if it doesnt work today, we are back to prune.

I've been told to try white grape juice too..Apple juice can be too binding. For my dd, we have to thicken her juice so we do one part juice, one part baby food fruit! Works every time!!
