View Full Version : Do you know ...
Nadine September 27th, 2005, 05:22 AM ... of any dangers/complications involved with TTCing/ getting pregnant at age 32?
I know that getting PG when you are older than 35 increases the risk of having a baby with Down syndrom. Are there any similar risks at age 32?
(Yes, I am about to remove my IUD and we are on the TTC route...) :bolt:
MrsPeacefrog September 27th, 2005, 05:42 AM I am no dr, but I have always thought that it only increases after 35...
:hug99: good luck I hope you have immediate success!
ykmama September 27th, 2005, 05:43 AM Nadine- The only thing I know of is to start taking folic acid and materna to help prevent birth defects. Good Luck!
Nocona September 27th, 2005, 09:54 AM I got pregnant with Sara 2 months before I turned 32 :) No problems at all :)
Jayne September 27th, 2005, 09:56 AM I haven't heard of any complications. My friend just had her daughter in June and was 34 when she gave birth without any problems!
GOOD LUCK TTCing! :jump:

Mandi September 27th, 2005, 10:37 AM I've never heard of any. :dunno: I wouldn't worry about down syndrome or anything like that. The only thing I know of is you're at a greater risk of Tay Sachs b/c you're jewish.. but as far as I know age doesn't affect that. :dunno:
Brandi September 27th, 2005, 11:03 AM I got this from the March of Dimes website:
Who has the greatest risk of having a baby with Down syndrome?
Parents who have already had a baby with Down syndrome, mothers or fathers who have a rearrangement involving chromosome 21, and mothers over 35 years old are at greatest risk. The risk of Down syndrome increases with age, from about 1 in 1,250 for a woman at age 25, to 1 in 1,000 at age 30, 1 in 400 at age 35, and 1 in 100 at age 40. However, about 80 percent of babies with Down syndrome are born to women who are under age 35, as younger women have far more babies.
Nadine September 28th, 2005, 01:35 AM Thanks for the input.
Mandi - since Tay Sachs is such a great risk in Jewish families, it is the norm here to get checked before getting engaged.
Clare September 28th, 2005, 02:30 AM I think that 32 is actually the average age to have the first baby these days! I gave birth at 31, 33 and 35 and didn't have any problems at all :)
Theresa September 28th, 2005, 07:19 AM Nothing to add aobut the age thing, but :woo: to you for TTC!!! Best of luck! :crossfing
Bev October 8th, 2005, 06:34 PM I was pregnant at 34/birth at 35; molar pregnancy at 36; pregnant and birth at 38. Barely, I turned 39 the day after Graham was born. :)
Both of my boys are perfect and the molar was because a sperm fertilized a "genetically empty" egg. That was a fluke.
At 32 I doubt you'll have any problems at all. Congratulations on TTC. :)
Lora October 9th, 2005, 01:43 PM I conceived a healthy baby on our first month trying when I was 32. We did it again on our first month at the age of 34. Now at 37 I am expecting again (conceived within the first month) and the baby appears to be very healthy again. I say go for it! Best of Luck!
Lora

Tab October 12th, 2005, 04:55 PM None that I know of . I've been trying to get pg for over a year and a half now still nothen . I guess it would help if we did it more . I'm in the process of losing weight too , I joined Curves back in June so I'm kind of hoping this will help me get pg soon . Good Luck to you though .
Bonnie October 18th, 2005, 02:48 PM Not aware of any... I had my first a week before I turned 34, had my second at 35 and had Tatum when I was 37... no age related problems at all.
Girlo October 18th, 2005, 04:55 PM My first was born when I was 36 and now I'm 38 and we're expecting our 2nd in June. :)

Nadine, I am 33, almost 34... pg with #2 - and have had a very uncomplicated pregnancy to date... and all test/ultrasounds have shown me to be pregnant with a very healthy little girl :) I take my prenatal vitamins, my Dr is on top of monitoring my thyroid (I have an underactive thyroid), and I make sure to drink 1.5L of water daily and get in my 5 fruits/veggies a day :)
