Alexia's preschool (like most) prefers if their clothing were marked and labeled. I was never fond of putting her name or initials on the tag. Is there a better way? Do they sell something I can just stick on her clothes (sweater, etc.) and mark it that way.....I suppose I can just use a label sticker or something, right? Ideas? Thoughts? And what do you do when you have to label their clothes? Does it bother you, like me, to label the tags?

Oh, and I wanted to add that this was never really a big deal last year when she went to preschool because there were only 5 kids in the classroom .

Ya I don't really like the look of labeling the tags but it's what I did/am doing..I bought a Sharpie and labeled Paige's sleeping bag(naps) backpack, lunch tupperware,shoes..I can't think of a better way to do it, I once sent a very expensive Aerochamber to school with Cass well little did I know that there were more than one child who had asthma and it got lost/stolen?? and we had to go out and buy a new one$75  that's when I learned to put her name on EVERYTHING :duh:

I was wondering about this too ... maybe I'll run to the store to see if I can find something today. Maybe there's a little swatch of white material you can write on & then sew on?! What do camp mothers & fathers do?!

Are you talking about an extra change of clothes? I am not a big fan of labeling, but for extra clothes, we just keep some cheap-o clothes from Target that stay in Aidan's backpack. I dont mind that his name is on the label w/ a sharpie.
As far as his jacket goes, I just stuck some masking tape w/ his name on it inside it. When it would start coming off (about a month?), I'd just re-do it.

Yes Karri, I'm talking about extra clothes as well as sweaters, mittens & stuff that get taken off. That's a good idea about the masking tape inside the coat. Like I said, I just hate for her sweaters, coats, etc. to have her initials on the tag! I think I'll do some sort of plain label type sticker, stick it on with her initials and call it done

I never liked to label the clothes with a sharpie either. I hand sewed little fabric tags (I made them with the name on it) with a few stitches onto the tag or the back of a sweater. That way I could remove it. The tape does sound a lot less work. ;)

We do tape on jackets and sweaters. The emergency outfit is cheap and gets written on.

I've used the fabric iron on labels and then also stickers I had made with their names on them (but these aren't for fabric). I like Silke's idea of the sew in labels. I'd hate writing on clothes.

Speaking on "emergency outfits" I used to always take in stuff I got that I didn't like (gifts typically) but then I always hated it when I showed up and Caleb was wearing an outfit I didn't like... so I started buying cheap outfits too - I don't mind if they don't get worn so much and I don't gag when I pick him up. Ahna still gets changed so much that I take in nice stuff for her. But they always take off her shoes... which makes me mad, although I know they are probably falling off. I'm such a dork, I just want them to look cute when I pick them up, too!

I use the ones you have made with the name on it and you just iron it on the clothes

We just labeled the extra set of clothes. I never label any of the other ones and nobody has said anything. Why would they need to be labeled anyway? Do they regularly take their clothes off? We always send a backpack for Carter so if he has an accident, the dirty clothes can go in there. I don't see a need for labeling every item he wears to school. Hmmm.. wondering if I'm supposed to be labeling everything. Oh well!

Brandi, I should have made myself more clear...sorry. I wasn't talking about every piece of clothing they wear  The extra clothes for accidents, the hats, sweaters, coats and stuff that are taken off....things like that. :)

I hate using a Sharpie on clothes and found iron-on labels esp for clothing @ www.namelabels.com which are pretty cheap but I think are black ink on white label, and www.labelitorloseit.com which have color choice and also have waterproof stickers for lunchboxes, sippies, etc.

Hope that helps, they did for me :)
