I am going to ask an admittedly stupid question.

Rayna has worn robeez her whole life. Since she is getting to the end of the sizes, I guess I have to branch out in the shoe dept.

I finally measured her foot this weekend and she is 5.5 inches from tip of her big toe to her heel.

So, what size does she wear? I'm assuming a 5.5 but you know what they say about assumptions!

Gymbo addicts, do gymbo shoes fit true to size? Anyone else know about stride rite? Gap? Old Navy? Any other brands?

I would say that since she has never really had walking shoes I would take her to Stride rite, have them measure her and fit her true to size. That way she has a really good pair of walking shoes.

I have no idea how the size on the foot mearsuring thing they have at stores compares to how long their foot is.

Here is something for Gymboree that you can print out... have no idea if it works...

Here is something else... http://www.kidsnshoes.com/kidsnfeet.htm

I just have taken her to payless shoes and used their thing.

I'd take her to a reputable shoe store where you are and have her feet measured in the sizer thingy.
As far as the brands of shoes....I bought Alex a pair of Converse high tops  in a size 6 and they ran pretty big. He does have some Gap shoes and Stride Rite's that seem pretty true to size (they don't fit any bigger or smaller than his other shoes).

If it helps at all....Alex is pretty comfortable in a size 6....and will likely be in a size 7 this winter. :)

Here's a site I found that might help a little, but I agree with the others about getting her fit:

Emma was a six at the beginning of summer and end of July I noticed she was moving into a seven, her toes were right at the end of her size 6 sandals.

Sandy - your measuring theory is wrong

I just measured Elliott's foot and its 5" on the dot. however, I took him to Stride Rite this morning to have him measured b/c he needs new sneakers. His foot measured at a 6.5 shoe size, which means that I shoud try size 7 shoes on him.

If Rayna has never worn real shoes, I would buy her good quality shoes for her first pair. She may not be used to walking in them!!! You want to make sure that they fit well and that she doesnt have a wide foot or a narrow foot or what have you.....hence the importance of going to a reputable place for a first fitting.

Like Rayna, Julia wore nothing but Robeez until she was almost 2. When she did finally get shoes, I measured her foot in a brannock to get the right size. I also took her to a Stride Rite store and had them measure for a proper fit. According to the Stride Rite person, Stride Rite shoes fit differently between styles - some fit small, some big, some true to size. Not sure how true it is, but that is what they say.

There is a size finder on the Stride Rite website and I'd caution you against that...I recently measured Julia's foot and according to that size finder, she needed a 10 2W (that would be the size AFTER XXW). I took her into the store and the brannock measured an 8.5W. My point is...take her to the Stride Rite store and have her properly measured!

Good luck, Sandy...the first time I put a shoe on Julia she FREAKED OUT! I made her keep it on and then when I went to take it off, she FREAKED OUT again!! :lol2: :tearhair: (now she is quite the shoe maven)

For Lauryn's age (she's 3.5 and measures a 9.5-10), I think Gymbo shoes runs a full size too big. She can wear a size 8 in the SF sandals. She has H&S clogs now that are a size 9 .

Sandy, I agree with getting her measured. We have purchased all of our Stride Rites from Nordstrom's shoe department. They seem to be about the same price as the actual Stride Rite store and they have great service. The first pair of shoes we bought at Nordy's was actualyl a few dollars less than the Stride Rite store.

I've noticed this as well with Nordy's. We have been getting Aiden New Balance sneakers which usually run small though.

Shannon - I'm dying to get Aiden some converse! But he violently shook his head no when I asked him if he liked them.

Interesting...that's pretty much all Aidan and Colin wear. We have other shoes/sandals but they're in their NB sneakers 95% of the time. Well, that is when I can coax them out of their fireman boots.

Just to back up what a lot of people said, I'd go to a good shoe store and get her measured. You don't have to buy from there though! :awink:

I think stride rights run small...Janelle is in a 5.5 in stride rights and a 5 in everything else.

I think gymbo's shoe sizing is similar to their clothes, they run big and aren't very consistent...she has some 4's that fit and a pair of 6's that almost fit.

Update:

I took Rayna into the Stride Rite this past weekend. She is a 6.5. We put her in size 7 for room to grow. I should have taken your advice and not bought shoes from there, though. Holy Sticker Shock!!!! I figure that will be the last time I buy any shoes from there. But at least I know her size now.

Funny sidebar to the Stride Rite trip. Rayna made like a bird and ran smack into a mirror thinking it was another room in the store. After making sure she wasn't maimed permanently, I had a huge belly laugh over this. And I don't have a cute little feminine giggle. Think Julia Roberts type of laugh. I guess I figured after making such a spectacle of ourselves in front of the 1000 other families in there, we at least should buy something.

Oh, and as far as whether Rayna like wearing her new shoes or not....I had to buy a pair of socks at the store b/c I couldn't get her to put her robeez back on. I guess that is a problem I didn't need to worry about!
