View Full Version : Should I tip?
sheila February 4th, 2004, 02:48 PM One of my friends has given me a wonderful baby gift: she is paying for her cleaning woman to clean my house on Friday!
She is paying for it, but I'm not sure if I should tip her or not. I don't want to be rude, because I don't like to be rude, because I don't want to embarass my friend and because the cleaning woman lives in my subdivision.
And how much of a tip should I leave?
Nocona February 4th, 2004, 03:21 PM Somehow I knew that's what this thread was going to be about
Yes, I'd tip. Do you have any idea how much she charges? I'd base the tip on that. If no, maybe $10?? I have no clue. I wish someone would come clean my house!
Brooke February 4th, 2004, 03:26 PM I was going to say $10. If it's a all-day thing, then maybe $20.
BeckyEsq February 4th, 2004, 03:27 PM I think you should tip her as well.
AahRee February 4th, 2004, 03:47 PM Okay, I'm really embarassed now. We had a cleaning service come and clean our house in September, and I didn't tip at all. It never even occurred to me to tip them! We were charged almost $200 for 4 ladies to do 2 hours of work. I wonder how much I should have tipped them? I'm totally embarassed now!
Dennis February 4th, 2004, 03:49 PM I wouldn't tip.
SarahK February 4th, 2004, 03:51 PM I wouldn't tip either.
Nocona February 4th, 2004, 03:59 PM Anne -- I assume you paid these people yourself? I wouldn't tip them either. Sheila's cleaning is a gift, that's the only reason I would tip.
Karri February 4th, 2004, 04:15 PM i still wouldnt tip. it seems (correct me if i am wrong) that this lady works for herself & not as a part of a service. in that case, the money your friend pays goes to her...its not like she is only making a small % of the fee.
(maybe i am cheap? )
Nichole February 4th, 2004, 04:17 PM I was thinking the same thing as Karri. If she's independent, then I don't see a reason to tip.
Cortney February 4th, 2004, 04:57 PM Because it was a gift I wouldn't tip. And I definitely wouldn't tip if she self-employed and doesn't work for someone like Merry Maids.
MizLacey February 4th, 2004, 04:59 PM I'd tip. I'd leave $10 for half day of cleaning, $20 for a full day. If I were paying her regularly? Only a tip if there were something outrageously gruesome to clean that week.
If I'm given a massage gift certificate, I still tip the massage therapist even when I know he/she is a self-employed person and got the full amount of the certificate.
