How long did you cloth diaper?

I voted part of the time, but we are still in cloth diapers. We have successfully stayed with it after she started solids, so I'm hopeful that we will continue until she's potty trained.

I tried it for about 2 months....not for me. It was hard to fit any of his clothes over the diapers and they ALWAYS leaked, unless I changed them at least every hour. :( I was changing his clothes 5x a day because he always had a rim of urine around each leg on his clothes.
When I realized that I was finding excuses to leave the house all day...and have him in sposies.....I figured I might as well do the sposies FT.

Charlie has been in 90% of the time and Maggie is in disposies 50-50 right now since most of her diapers are still too big. The twins (Matt & Andrew) were in cloth for a few weeks early on and Andrew has been in cloth at home since 2003 (they won't allow cloth at his school).

I CD my daughter from about 4 weeks until she potty trained at 19 months. My son is now 19 mos and doesn't seem interested in potty training yet, but we're still in cloth. The first time around I went the cheap route and used Gerber pre-folds in Dappi covers. It was a very boring system and sometimes we had compression wicking. Eventually I started making my own diapers for her because I wanted something more absorbant. With my son I splurged and bought some really nice diapers and I absolutely love it. I look for excuses to let him go around in his super cute diapers and a t shirt only just to show them off.

Gabrielle was in cloth from about 3 weeks to about 20 months with ocassional disposables. Then we switched over full time. I could never get the strong urine smell out and I just couldn't take the FUMES anymore or she'd still be in cloth.

I voted part time. I didn't start until she was over a year, and I switched to pull ups when I thought she was going to potty train, but she didn't actually potty train when I thought she was going to, so she wound up in pull ups for a while, unfortunately. :( I really liked CDing, though.

I loved CD'ing. Aiden was CD from about 2 months into his 15 month. I stopped because he went into daycare for a time and I had some personal problems and I stopped. I wish I hadn't and have been thinking about CD'ing him again.... but he's getting close to PT'ing, I hope. I dunno. I throw it back and forth all the time. We used fuzzi bunz full time and I never had any problems with them. My MIL figured I'd give it up sooner, but she never saw the likes of the FB.

You know, I think that was probably my problem - I used a diaper service and I just used their diapers with a cheap plastic cover over the top. The diaper stuck out of the cover every time and when it would get soaked, it would just soak right into his clothes. Gross. :dead:
I didn't even know the other diapers existed! I just figured cloth was cloth! I suppose if I had researched a little better ahead of time and invested in some nice cloth to begin with, he would have been CD a lot longer. I've been toying with it for #2.....but that'll be our last and I don't know if it's worth all the $$$....and then what do I do with the diapers once they grow out of them? Do you think people sell them used? I'd actually be willing to go this route to try the nicer cloth dipes for a lesser investment. :)

Two answers.......
1. With Morgan it was from about 16 months until she potty-learned.
2. With Raelyn it's been since birth and will go on until she potty-learns.

You know, I was in the same boat with #1. I had no idea that cloth diapering had come so far. If I would have, I may have tried it with #1. We only use Fuzzi Bunz. They are great. I got some of mine at my shower and then I bought many of them used from mothering.com. I'd say with an insert, Fuzzi Bunz cost around $20. I got most of my used ones with an insert for about $10. I've been thinking about selling them for $5. That means that they would each cost me about $5. I have about 20 in the size we are in now and that's about $100. I think I still save a ton of money on them.

I've been CDing Sarah since birth. We occasionally use disposables when we're going to be out for more than an hour or two. And we used them when we were on vacation because we didn't want to have to deal with washing them in a hotel washer. I plan on continuing until she potty-learns. So many people said "I'll give you a week" when I mentioned we were going to CD. Well :eviltongu on them because she's 7 1/2 months and we're still doing it!

Still going strong! Josiah is 26 months and we use FBs. occasionally, of course, we use disposables. Like when we travel, when I let the laundry go too long and we run out of FBs. I'm hoping he'll show interest in potty training soon, but we're sticking with the FBs!

Shannon, I sold all of Aiden's outdgrown FB on ebay. There are other places, like mothering.com where you can sell them, and Jennie used to have a the option of buying used back.
I made quite a bit of my investment back after selling them. Definitely well worth it.

I voted based on my first child who was in cloth nappies until she was about a year old when we switched to disposables. 2nd child was in cloth part time for the first 6 months but then we gave up. #3 has never been in cloth.
Like Shannon, I had no idea about the cloth nappy revolution. We used the old system - square piece of cloth, folded and pinned with a pair of fluffies over the top.

Ever since day one. Nothing modern although, just the plain old fashioned kind with pins and rubber pants. Even the older kids who became freshly daytime toilet trained were pinned up at night for awhile to stave off wet pyjama bottoms and crib sheets. Double diapers for night-time, single diapers for daytime. :sewmachin

Why do people have to be so rude? I know exactly what you mean though - we got the same thing. DD is 13 1/2 months old and we are still going strong!
