A former co-worker of mine asked me to write a letter for her as a personal reference. What sort of information would you include? I'm assuming that I would mention how long I have known & worked with her, as well as about the quality of her work. Does that sound right?

What is the letter to be used for?

That sounds about right. You can do a search on google for some samples. A girl I work with just did that for a friend of hers that was trying to get a job after being a SAHM for years.

She wants some letters for potential employers. The supervisor she has worked with for many years just left in the last few weeks & seems to be stalling on giving her a letter of recommendation. She knows that a letter from a former co-worker clearly wouldn't pull the same weight...but needs something just in case. I have the same licensure as the supervisor so that may be of benefit to her.

Great idea! Thank you!

Just curious...I'm in the middle of interviewing now and personally I'd not want a letter so much as someone to call. So I didn't know if there was a reason she wanted to go that route, but I'm sure different jobs and different companies have different needs.

Anyway, I second what Nocona said. :)

I'm wondering if because I left in Feb, the boss just left & she's leaving if she's concerned about being able to have something that she can provide :dunno: She knows that I'm expecting & may be concerned about my ability to follow through with a phone call at that time since it could coincide with baby's birth (since she will be moving in Oct). For myself, I have always included personal reference information during the application process so my friends can be contacted at that time.

That makes sense too, Pam - about people leaving the company and the timing with your baby. I usually just give the references once they ask. :)

(This is all reminding me I forgot to call a second reference for someone today. Hopefully I'll remember this thread in the morning and follow through. )
