We got our referral for physical therapy and our first appt. is on Thursday. Courtney is almost 19 months old and not walking, so we are going to push her a little... she had an eval by early intervention a few months ago and they were not concerned, but she is definitely in the late category now, so we are going to start with Children's Hospital. She cruises and she has started to get up to standing w/o holding on, but promptly falls, so here we go.

Good luck! PT made a HUGE difference in Joe and I'm sure you'll see an improvement in Courtney soon too. :)

Just an FYI, I'm sure you already know this, but PT can be really exhausting. Joe would be super crabby the rest of the day, take a long nap and go to bed early after he had a session.

Good luck! Do you think that EI is slow to diagnose that there is a delay? They kept saying that we could do some things at home to help her. I just didn't feel like that was enough. So, I decided to get her weekly therapy. I feel like it was the best decision ever. She is doing quite well with the therapy and picks up stuff right away. I'm so glad we didn't wait until they decided she needed therapy.

I don't know if EI is slow because it was maybe 3 months ago or so that the physical therapist came out, so she was younger... I don't think anyone really wants to do anything about walking until they are 18 months old, so I held off pushing for it too. I guess I'll see what they say at Childrens about her. I think it will really help her, and thanks for the good wishes, everyone.

Another thing on EI, I also think that they see kids with very severe problems/delays, so the kids who are just kind of behind or just a bit behind the range they don't really act too concerned, if that makes sense. I know with Courtney's speech, they have been pretty relaxed, even when I am getting anxious about it... she is going to be starting up with more regular speech therapy when EI starts up again next month, but they never seem as concerned as I am. That is an area where we will probably go to Children's too if things don't improve in the coming year as she turns 2 and beyond, but for now, I am willing to see how it goes with EI this fall.

The PT eval. went well, except, it was not at the best time for Courtney.... nap time.... so she pooped out at the end and just wanted me to hold her. The therapist thinks she is developmentally on target with motor, except of course WALKING!! So, she will go once a week. The therapist thinks she needs some strengthening and then to build her confidence. I definitely agree on the confidence b/c that has been Courtney's m.o. with all her gross motor... she refuses to do anything until she can do it perfectly without danger of falling. There is still the possible issue of this being a balance issue too, because of her ears, but it's going to be hard to know if that is the case. She is having an MRI of her brain and they'll look at her ear too on Sept. 2, so that might give us some more info.

Glad that everything looks on track with the exception of walking, :woo:
I will be thinking of you guys when she has her MRI. You are going to have a very busy next few months.

I'm glad that it went well. I'm sure once they work with her for awhile her walking will really come along. :) I hope that the MRI goes well!
