My darling, darling husband just cancelled our vacation because it was going to cost a little more than we planned. However, he said I could put the vacation money to use decorating and/or furnishing our house. SOOOO... I need some suggestions!

First of all, we plan to move soon, and the furniture would be for the new house, not for our current house. So I'm not going to bother posting pictures of our current house. I know that we'll need furniture for a family room or living room (depending on which we decide to put our existing couches, etc. into). And we'll need a diningroom set. (We only have a casual kitchen dining area right now.) And we could definitely use a new bedroom set. Obviously, I don't think we're going to get ALL of that at one time, but I'd like to get everything we need for at least one of the rooms, if possible. (So Pottery Barn and Ethan Allen are out, unfortunately.) I have about $1K to spend. And I really like the shabby chic look - antique white painted furniture, floral fabrics, overstuffed chairs, etc. For colors, I love all shades of pink and blue.

SOOOO... any ideas? Shopping suggestions? I really don't know where to look, other than PB and EA, and they're definitely out of our price range. :( Help!

Well...... I REALLY want real wood, not coated particle board. But I might not be able to get it at the prices I want. :(

Do you have Weekends Only out there?

Nope, I've never heard of that. Do they have a website? Incidentally, almost EVERY bedding set I've found online that I like is only available in stores on the east coast.

If you want bedding, Eddie Bauer Home has some pretty stuff--I just ordered some a little while ago...and it was on sale.

When you mentioned shabby chic, I thought maybe you could find a nice dining room set at a garage sale or a consignment shop and then have it refinished to suit your needs. They could distress it very nicely. I'm thinking consignment shop, TJ Maxx & More, going out of business sales, online sites (like Craigslist). For your budget, $1,000 might not be enough to get a whole lot if you find it new and for regular price. So you are going to have to get creative. I like the refinish option myself. :)

I'd try consignment shops, the salvation army stores, yard sales, that sort of thing.

Hey! Take Wendy (sparrowbug) with you. She seems to be the queen of Friday yard sales! Some people have all the luck.
