What kind of work environment do you have? Do you have an office to yourself? Work in a cube farm? Do you have a spot in the hallway or maybe in a common area?

I'm in a cubicle village. It never ceases to amaze me how many people don't understand that even though you have 5-foot walls around your desk, everyone around you can hear you if you're not quiet.

I have my own office and THANK GOD for that! I love being able to close my door and have privacy for my OUAL'ing

heh. This was a big topic for me about a year and 1/2 ago.

GE took my company over and moved all my coworkers around the building. I was really ticked after 15 years of service and they'd planted me in a interior office when several other youngsters (2 years of service ) had window real estate!

Now, I know that many have it worse at other places in just a cubicle, so I shouldn't have been greedy, but the thing about the 2 year people really got to me! And I'd been in a window office for years.

At the end of last year a window office opened across the hall from me and my manager went through a lot of bureaucratic bull... and got the okay for me to move in there.

I have a window in my office now, but it looks out onto the bick wall 10 feet outside of it. I'm moving across the hall to a new office with a better view soon :crossfing

I have my own office with a door, but no window.

Everyone except for the word processors (only 4 of them) have their own office here.

I'm in a freaking hallway! :complain: It's actually a cube temporarily set up in a large hallway until they build out more office space inside the lab. It's so noisy. :dead:

ETA: I was a little surprised to see hallway as an option, actually. I really hope that no one is stuck out there, too.

I'm in a cube farm. Our engineering manager is the only one on the floor with an actual office. Someday if I'm lucky, maybe I can upgrade to a cube near the window.

Cube farm here. I hate it. It's noisy, noisy, noisy all day long, because as much as we talk on the phone, there's really no way for everyone to be quiet. Add to that people going back and forth, conversations being held nearby (not on the phone), phones ringing, and it's just a dull roar all day long. It makes me tired.

At my previous job, I had a window office with a door. *SIGH* I miss that.

Cube farm here, too. I hate it. I moved cubes on Tuesday, and now I sit right near customer service. Yeah, that's great when you're trying to read all day. :dead:

I have an office, door, window. Luckily I haven't been in a cube in a long time, because it really blows.

ditto :aok:

My view is really lovely - grass and then a highway  I do get to watch the sunrise though (get should be in quotes because that means I get here when the sun's coming up  ).

I'm in cubical country....in a sales office no less....talk about noise! All us sales people do is talk, talk, talk all day. And yes, like Dennis said, we all know each other's business, whether we want to or not! I will only get an office with a door when and if I manage people. Not something I'm striving to do just to get a door.

I tend to spruce up my cube though. One time at Christmas, I wallpapered a whole wall in gorgeous merlot colored wrapping paper. Right now I have streamer in red, yellow and green attached to a stick hanging across the cubicle opening, so I sort of have a door. I also have a chili pepper sign :chilipepp that says Fiesta next to my name plate. People are drawn to my "office" because it's colorful in a sea of beige.

Cube…though fairly nice ones with high walls. It’s also a smaller satellite office and there aren’t that many of us around, so it’s not too loud.

What stinks is my very first job out of college (law firm) I had my own office. (And a secretary!) I won’t see that again any time soon.

We actually talked about doing a Trading Cubes concept a couple years ago where we'd swap cubes and decorate for our coworker.

I have lots of personal touches here too...the center of which is a really large Red Sox sign. :aok:

This is a great idea Alyssa. I'm bringing it up at our next team meeting!

I have my own office with a door and a window. I never shut the door though because my best friend is right across the hall from me so we chit chat all day long. It's a nice little set up for me! Not to mention my computer screen doesn't face out so I can post on here and it looks like I'm working very hard on some pleadings !

Yeah... I turned my computer so that my monitor sits on my desk so taht no one can see what I'm doing either

I have my own office with a door and windows. I never close the door unless I'm running the vacuum though since all the job and accounting files are in my office. The bosses are always popping in to get something. I face my door when I'm on the computer though so they can't see what I'm doing when they walk in. :)

I am in a cube farm also... but the way they are set up there is really only two walls to a cube so its alot more open. I would rather have the extra wall

i have 3 cubes  all in different bldgs. only managers with direct reports get offices. i could have taken a cube against the window (my main cube) but it's too damn cold in winter

currently i'm residing in cube #3 and i don't even have a phone  which is nice.

Me too but ours is a townhouse where my boss sits in the back "dining room" (beside the kitchen) and I sit up front, with my desk facing one of three windows onto the main street so I do get a lot of sun which is nice but on the opposite side of the "living room" from me is another girl. It's not so bad because we're sales reps & we shouldn't really be in the office alot and we're typically not in at the same time either but when we do, we both speak pretty softly so that helps with noise.

It's a pretty ridiculous set up if you ask anyone who works there/has seen it but it's owned by my boss and they were leasing in a regular office tower before.

I used to have an office with a door *sigh*.

Our company just relocated and now I have my own office. The production team is set up in an open area - low cubicles - one can see their neighbour.

I would kill for a cube! I'm just in the corner of a big room, right next to the door that leads outside. So three times a day when the shop guys take their smoke breaks, I get to inhale it. If it's cold or windy outside, I get to share that, too, every time somebody goes in or out.

I have an office with windows and doors and a pretty nice view... When we were downtown, I had a view of San Diego bay and that was beautiful... where we are now, it's mostly hills and shopping centers, but still nice.

I am in a room of four people and we are in cubes. I actually prefer it this way. I think I would go out of my mind if I had to sit by myself all day. We talk ALL DAY LONG! For the most part we know each other's business but that's okay because we all get along. One wall is a window on the 14th floor so we have a pretty decent view.

I had a window office but I got kicked out when I new VP was hired. They combined 2 offices to make his big office. The new VP was a Clinton presidential appointee so I really didn't have a chance

Cube farm here. I share a quite large cube with another person.

cube here too, but they are not the standard square cube - they are more life 1/2 circle, and you share your 1/2 circle with another person. There's a lot of room, but I'd prefer a wall or something between me & the other person.

I have my own classroom, over looking a basketball court, complete with rusted backboards and no nets. The dead grass really adds to the view.
