I'm an enginner - fire protection engineer, to be exact.
And I'm trying to figure out a way out of it, too.

I don't fit in to any of Shanna's categories so I voted "other".

I work for a magazine publishing company. We publish boring trade magazines that are really exciting if you work in Waste Treatment or School Facilities. I'm the Director of Promotions for Audience Marketing which is the unintelligible way of saying that I oversee subscription activities (yes, blame me for those little cards in your mags) - print and online, plus customer service (yes, blame me for those annoying "press 1 now calls"...), subscription processing (yes, blame me for never getting your issues) and subscription databases (yes, blame me for selling your name to those pesky telemarketers). Oh, and we do subscription telemarketing too, but mostly to office during the day, so don't flip out. At least I don't outsource my telemarketing to India, I keep it in the good old USA.

OK, I think I've overelaborated here, so I'll shut up.

I also work for a publishing company, and we do a lot of the "noisy" books you may have seen, or even have. We do a lot of kids books, cookbooks, auto books, and my department works on the general ones (basically the leftovers). I'm an editor.

I voted 'other' because I'm in biotech. I work for a life sciences manufacturing company. We used to call ourselves the "Betty Crocker of Biotech" because we make a lot of kits that make lab work/research easier. I used to be in the lab (ie. making the products) but now I'm doing more desk work; I deal with all of our documentation - writing and revising protocols and batch records, etc. If I didn't have such a sweet part-time set up (with benefits! :woo: ), I probably wouldn't be there anymore. I'm not really into the lab stuff as much as I used to be.

I am a Credit Analyst for a wholesale bank. I analyze the credit worthiness of loan and security portfolios. My employer offered me the chance to work part-time (20 hours a week) after Patrick was born and I jumped on it. I hope to continue on a part-time basis as long as possible. I can't imagine returning to full-time work anytime soon!

I voted for other; I am an Employee Benefits Manager, specifically overseeing the 401k and pension plans at a car rental company. DH will be opening his own insurance agency office next year so in the next 2 years my plan is to find a non-stress part-time job so that I can be home when the kids get out of school, etc.

Another other voter

I am the director of a specialized insurance program (commercial insurance, not personal) for a large general contractor. Basically, we buy massive amounts of insurance for cheaper than our subcontractors can buy it and then insure our subcontractors on our projects. In turn, they don't charge us for insurance in their contracts. This can mean big $$ or a loss, depending on claims. On the whole, it's meant big $$ or I wouldn't still have my job

I am currently on Mat Leave.

For 12 years I was a Correctional Officer (in the living units) of a male federal penitentiary. LOVED that job. I also acted as the Correctional Supervisor and the Security Intelligence Officer.

When I moved here there is no pen, so I had to go Acting Community Parole Officer. That job SUCKS. Same bad guys but you can't just go in, do your job and go home; there is way more stress involved plus there are deadlines etc.

I want to switch over to be a Border Services Officer. I can do that because I'm on a gov't relocation and although it is a demotion, the hours would be better (some shift work but they also offer part time) and there is, I'm assuming, virtually no stress involved, like my Correctional Officer job. Go there, work, go home. I want a job that does not include my thinking about it when I'm not there. The guy at the Ambassador Bridge said he'd hire me whenever I want. The only downside, I would have to go to Quebec for 14 weeks for training.

I'm a hairstylist...and I'm bored with it. Hopefully once we move to TN I can go back to school. I'd love to be an ultrasound technician. My best friend lives in TN (where we're moving to) and is getting her LVN license, so we plan on opening a business..doing ultrasounds!
