It's a POLL! :ura1:
What's your take on sleeveless at work?

I wear sleeveless at work, but usually have to wear a cardigan over it, because it's so freakin cold in here!! :complain: But seriously, I think that some sleeveless things look very nice and professional.

Well, when I used to work, I had quite a few sleeveless things (tops, dresses) that I wore to work. And I worked in a "business professional" office. I bought most of my stuff from Ann Taylor/Ann Taylor Loft, so it was pretty dressy to begin with. But like Trish, I was often freezing, so it wasnt too often. :complain:

I don't mind if people wear sleeveless as long as the top has a nice fit. ie.. no sagging material and no visible bra straps or even the bra itself.
It's been really hot here lately, so I've been wearing a few tasteful ones myself. :)

I voted "It depends" because I'm not entirely sure. I've seen some pretty icky looking sleeveless shirts being worn here. But I've also seen my aunt (who is a LARGE woman) wearing a business suit with a sleeveless silky or satin top or a sleeveless dress and she looks fine in both, even without having nice arms.
So, I think it depends on the top. Personally, I'm rarely comfortable wearing sleeveless anything so I just avoid them at work and at home.

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: I do this ALL the time in the morning. Once the sun comes around in the afternoon, my office gets pretty warm!

Wearing a sleeveless shirt at work as I type this. Even though I hate my arms. :dead: I do have a cardigan with me though...although sadly I haven't needed it b/c the AC was broken for a while today. Fixed, but still stuffy. :complain:

When I was pregnant with Riley, I lived in sleeveless shirts at work. And of course as I type this, I'm wearing a sweater since it's so blasted cold in here, yet it's 95 outside. I think it's totally fine to wear sleeveless.

I have no problem with sleeveless at work, as long as it's tasteful and fits well. And I don't wear sleeveless, one, because I'd freeze (I usually wear long sleeves, and it's probably close to 100 degrees outside! ), and two, because I do NOT have good arms at all and don't want to inflict them on the world.

We are a VERY casual law office and sleeveless is fine! Whenever I do wear sleeveless, I always bring a carnigan with me just in case...we have the a/c blowing all day long!

Our law office is very casual too (I'm wearing jeans with my sleeveless  )

Sleeveless is okay where I work. Our retired Judge would not allow it in his court room though. Our new Judge (who is female) seems okay with it.

Wow... lots of us legal-eagles around this board :lol:And then there were those of us smart enough to escape when we could.
(I ALWAYS thought I'd be a lawyer...I think everyone, including myself, is a little shocked I'm not! I did the legal assistant thing for a couple of years and saw the sweat shop life and practically on a whim [applying at 11pm at night when stuck in my law firm cube...again] I applied to communications grad school and ended up in marketing. Not sure it's that different, but at least I don't have to bill my hours! And I know not all law is like that...but man, I still have see friends stuck in that billing hell/partner track thing. :dead: )

I always thought I would be a lawyer too (as well as my hubby and parents), but seriously, my responsibility ends the minute I walk out the door and I LOVE that! I just make sure I bill enough to cover my salary since I have lots of other duties here (office manager type things).

I voted "It depends". As a nurse in a hospital, I could never have gotten away with being sleeveless but if you work in an office it is a different story. There are lots of appropriate sleeveless outfits out there. :)

I think a tacky tank top would NOT be appropriate but that a tasteful sleeveless outfit is totally fine.

I think it is fine. However, having said that, where I work there are a number of people who believe it is fine to wear skin tight sparkly tank tops, which I don't think is terribly appropriate.

I voted okay if you have the arms! There is nothing worse than seeing someone with flabby arms (I DON'T wear sleeveless anymore!) in a sleeveless shirt -- especially at work.
(Another legal type here -- I am an attorney. I rarely see sleeveless when I am in court.)

I'd prefer to see a flutter sleeve, at least, but I guess it's okay in the right environment. Where I'm working right now (retail), it's not allowed at all. But when I was a paralegal (yet another legal-type here! ), I wore sleeveless on occasion. Not often, though, because it was always freezing! I'd probably be okay in sleeveless if it was allowed at our store, though, because I spend all day running around. The irony!

I voted that I think it's fine. It's definitely fine here at our office anyway. We're pretty casual and NEVER have contact with any customers. In fact I'm wearing a sleeveless button down shirt today.

I think it's ok and I used to wear sleeveless at my office but usually only in my cube... if I left my cubby to go to a meeting, even if it wasn't outside clients, I would put on a blazer, sweater, etc. Our office was awfully warm so it was required (so to speak) to be in layers as it was cool in the a.m. but hot as the sun moved around in the p.m. and to stay awake, you almost needed to be in sleeveless!

I think it's fine if worn the right way. I don't spaghetti straps and tank tops are suitable though I do see some around here.

NEVER have contact with any customers.
We don't have any contact with clients either...they are huge insurance companies based out of other parts of the country. One of the main reasons we can be casual...thank goodness!

I think sleeveless is fine. The rule at my work is your sleeve has to be as wide as your badge is.

I voted it depends... I think if it is a tasteful sleeveless top then it's fine... but tank tops or spaghetti straps to me are a definite no. There is a woman in my office who wears halter tops frequently and tight jeans and I think it is really inappropriate. We don't get a lot of outside traffic, but she occasionally sits up at the front desk where people come in and it just looks bad. I'm a lawyer too, but work for government and our office is very casual, as is probably indicated by this woman and her halters... we have another who frequently wears hooded pullover sweatshirts... I'm not sure which is worse.

I wear sleeveless underneath my suit jacket. If it gets hot, I do take the jacket off. If I don't have a jacket, I usually have a sweater tied around my neck. I never go to work with just the sleeveless top (unless it's collared).

I don't wear sleeveless anywhere.
So for me - it is a no go anyway. If others do it... I couldn;t care less. No matter how they look. I know it disturns DH a lot though. Women also wear shirts to work that expose the belly and such...
Oh- and I have a sweater here all the same and I am freezing most of the time- with sleeves AND a long skirt!
