Not much going on here today. Just playing catch up since I stayed home with some medical issues yesterday.

Thanks for the hugs, y'all. :) I'm feeling a bit better now - not quite so emotionally beat up. I know he likes school, likes his teacher, likes playing with his buddies (he now tells me they're his friends - smart boy! :) ). And I know we all have days where we just don't want to leave the house, we'd rather stay home. But it sure is hard to leave him screaming.

Today has been OK at work. Fairly quiet, and I'm hoping that continues. I'm hoping the whole week is pretty quiet, since there's a holiday coming up!

Amen to that, Lisa! I am really hoping this week will be quiet!! I need a break! (Even though I wasn't here yesterday! :lol: )

I'm here. :sunny: I've been lurking a lot. In the other thread and around journals here in general. I guess it's my summer time blues. I read, but then when I get to posting, it just doesn't happen.

Work has been busy too. My manager retired at the end of May and we found out this week that most of his work will come to me and my counterpart. Geez, that's just great! :rolleyes:

#2 already? I haven't been keeping up, since I've actually been :gasp: busy at work! :) I should be dictating, now, but I just needed a few minutes to myself to eat lunch in peace!

I found out a few weeks ago that my partner is leaving at the end of July :( So things are going to get even busier! They're recruiting for someone to replace her...but at a minimum it takes 2 months to get credentials at the hospital (and if whoever they hire doesn't have an IL medical license, it takes even longer)- so I'm a solo practioner for a while, I guess... Thank goodness I have people to share weekend call with!

That's how Julian was this morning - "I don't wanna go to school, I wanna stay home!" I told him that that's how life works, some days we've gotta do things we don't particularly want to do.

And I may ask his teachers not to do that, unless it's getting to where I really need to get out of there. I'd rather take the couple of extra minutes and let him decide to let go on his own.

My boss is so layed back. We have a term called "Pulling a Houdini" (disappearing act). Basically, you leave all of your lights and your computer monitor on but you leave early. We pull houdini's a lot. He's the one that made it up.

One day I told him I was pulling a Houdini and he said, "It's not a Houdini if you tell me."

So I don't tell him anymore!

I really like that schedule too. My department is trying to come up with something like that since we all are here 7-5 M-F and everyone's burnt out on it.

I'm back from lunch. I met 2 of my friends and their kids and Paul brought Matthew & Sara. 4 kids under 4 and 3 adults (Paul bailed :lol: ). Fun stuff :lol:

My computer at work sucks :down: I can't run a CD and any of my work apps, so that is out of the question and the radio stations (that I can get in my building) suck, so I'm kinda SOL. I listen to shoutcast at times, but its pretty repititious :lol:

I figured an ipod would solve all my problems :lol: My parents and I went in and got John one for his birthday and now I think I want one for mine :blush1: But, I would be happy with just an ipod mini... I don't need THAT much storage space :lol:

I can't concentrate and listen to the radio. I meet with candidates in person and on the phone all day so it wouldn't be practical. I sit in a room of four people and I like them so we talk all day.

I sit in my own office and have a crappy to 40 radio station to listen to :dead:

I like most of the people around me. And we chat quite a bit throughout the day. But, I spend most of time here chatting. Its more entertaining and I enjoy the people here more. :lol:

I ocasionally have student employees working with me and I do have a radio to listen to, but I'm usually reading what's going on here, so I think I block out the radio :lol:

I'm the only female for 8 offices down the hall :lol: I'm kinda in no man's land :lol:

I am working a 1/2 day on Thursday because my ILs are going out of town Wednesday night!! So, I'll get to spend most of the day with Genavieve! I started my new job on May 2nd and I LOVE it (should I be careful and say so far? I hope not)!
I had a stressy day on Monday and had to finish a Getting Started Guide and Release Notes - but I made it. And you know what? I had FUN doing it because I like technical writing.
The "downside" is that I have MUCH less online time. So I guess I will only come by for a visit here every now and then, because, as the title says... I should be working.

In other news - I am ... late. Got 2 BFNs so far but AF's last visit was on May 14th. I have a gyn appointment tonight (9:45 pm) and will hopefully know more afterwards. I am nervous as hell and would like to know what the heck is going on with my body.....

More other news: Sunday we are going on vacation to Eilat for 5 days! YAY! Can't wait!

Oh- that brings me to a question:
How long are your kids' summer holidays and what do you do with them while they are on vacation (assuming you have less v days them they do)?

Yumi has 2 whole months of summer vacation (here it is rightfully called the Big Vacation).
I have a 3 week day camp for him and TG I have the ILs to look after him. I can't take off a lot since I have a new job and Yehuda always has one of his peak stress times during July-August.
Shoham's DC is on vacation starting August 8th. Then she will join Yumi at ILs or I'll have a person looking after them at home for 2 weeks. Will cost a fortune...

I hope you get some answers at your appointment tonight, Nadine. Are appointments that late typical there? That would be impossible to get in the US :lol:

Matthew is doing summer preschool camp on Mondays and Wednesday from 9-12. That goes through July and then he has all of August off before regular preschool (MWF 9-1) starts again at the beginning of September.

That is late. At first, I thought that might be nice and then realized that it wouldn't give me a reason to leave work for a couple of hours. :lol:

I was thinking the same thing! An OB that is open past 5pm here is an accident :lol:

The kids don't really know the difference between summer and the rest of the year yet (just that its hotter and nastier) but I'm sure that will change in the next few years :lol: We're not going on vacation (again) b/c it just isn't feasible with John's job, 3 kids and $$ :lol: I'm hoping that John will start keeping the kids in the mornings b/c it is just ridiculous to pay for that much daycare :lol:

My doctor's office just started having late hours on Wednesdays, and they're open certain Saturdays (I think it's every other Saturday), but I like Jenny's comment in that office hours during work hours gives you a chance to slip out. :aok:

Riley doesn't know the difference of summer either since she's 19 months. I went with Phil to drop her off this morning (he normally takes her), but he has a meeting this afternoon until 6, so I'm on pick-up duty. We only have the one car seat and it doesn't fit in my car, so we had to switch cars. Anyway, of course Riley was extra clingy since I'm not normally there. But the minute the teacher asked her if she wanted to see the babies in the infant room, she let go of me and started waving. :lol: Little stinker.

A little good news - y'all remember that outside position I was interested in? No decision has been made yet, and I'm still in the running. :yippee: There may be word by the end of the week. Y'all keep your fingers crossed for me!

We aren't really in the position to be going to Ireland this summer since we just bought a new house but this is probably Dori and Jamie's last summer there so we would never be able to go this cheap again.

Jenny~ Definitely go while you can! That's how I got to go to Europe a few years ago. My best friend and her hubby were stationed in Germany and my mom paid for the airfare! (Of course my Mom decided she had to go too... but it was still a great experience!)

Sucks to y'all who get to come in really casual. We're business casual, sure, but that's not the same as jeans or shorts!

Where I used to work went from jeans ok sometimes to the most casual you could be was khakis. Then I came here and my boss wanted me to just wear jeans to my interview. I couldn't do it :lol:

:bawl: I went to drop Genna off at daycare yesterday, and the provider told me she is going to have to give up daycare because of health problems (back issues apparently). NOT what I needed to deal with since I am due to have a baby and we are moving right now. I cried right there in her house. She said we could have a month to find new daycare, but since I am off right now, that isn't the big issue. I was hoping to use her after the baby was born a few days a week to give me a break and keep Genna in a routine, but MIL or SIL are happy to watch her for me a few days a week too. But now I have to find new daycare for Genna and the baby for the fall. I feel so bad for Genna because she is having such a big change already with the baby and a move :(

Then our power went out in a storm last night. We had to spend last night at MIL's. Ugh. We didn't get much done needless to say.

On a positive note, the baby is no longer breech :yippee:

And on another note, I started calling new daycare's yesterday, and one happen to have an open house today. We went, and I think we really like it. It is a small center. They are licensed for 50, but will only take about 30 kids. The infant area is birth to 2.5 years (so there is some continuity of care there) and only can have 12 children at a time with a ration of 1:4 at all times. They have some of the greatest play equipment, a preschool program, and do activities like gymnastic and music from time to time. Genna loved playing there. It is a little more expensive than our current one, but you get a lot more instructional activity than the one she was in since it was just a home (although we thoguht she got GREAT care).

Ok, now that I have basically put an entire personal journal post in here, I should go now :lol:

I'm gone for a couple days and we get a new journal and it's up to 4 pages! Damn, why did I have to be so buried at work the past couple days.

I'm back from Vegas. Lost my shorts...well I should clarify, I lost all the money I brought to gamble with on The Beverly Hillbillies pennies slots. That's about all I can swallow when in Vegas.

I've been slammed at work, can't wait for the long weekend.

On another note, Addyson was in the kitchen this morning (b/c John didn't put up the baby gate :furious: ) and fell against the high chair and put a tooth through her lower lip, so I'm waiting for my peds' office to call back to see whether or not I need to bring her in :rolleyes:

Today is shaping up to be hellish. I have a committee meeting at 9:00, training from 10 to 12 (and this training goes on every Tues. and Thurs. until the beginning of August :rolleyes: ), and our team meeting at 1:00 until who knows when (they sometimes run a little long). It's also the last day of the month for me to get all my phone calls done, and I'm way behind. And this isn't counting my regular day-to-day work. :faint: Is it Friday yet?!

My a/c is acting up at home so they are sending someone out this morning. I casually mentioned that I have a 2 month old and suddenly they could come ASAP :lol: Then my boss showed up and he's not supposed to be here today. He's leaving in a bit. I have tons to do (it's our insurance renewal day and I have to get all kinds of stuff out), but I don't feel like it. My pillow is calling my name! :lol:

Nocona, did you get the A/C fixed? I feel your pain - had to put in a whole new unit last week. Ouch. But you can't do without it!

I was slammed all day long - it never stopped. Promotions were announced this afternoon - seven people got promoted. I wasn't one of them, but then, I didn't expect to be. We're talking about raises next week. Our manager has said he got a total of 2.5% of our team's combined base salaries to allocate as raises. Being as how the most any of us could get, given that fact, would be a 2.5% raise, and being as how our team leader just got a (well-deserved) promotion (and the money for the pay increase will come out of the amount allocated for raises), I'm thinking it will be slim pickings for the rest of the team as far as raises go. My gyn works in the hospital and a women health clinic during the day and in his own clinic on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-10pm. I can't leave work early/in the middle of the day. I mean, I can but prefer not to. There are nice to me as it is since I work only 7 hours a day instead of 9.

The gyn claims I am simply ovulating late (he did a sonogram) but didn;t give me any tests to do. :scratch: I guess time will tell.

See you all on July 11th. We are going on vacation from Sun-Thurs.:cool:

Yes, Lisa, they came out and fixed within an hour of me calling :faint: It was clogged with pollen! I didn't even know that was possible.

We had a pretty good holiday. We had a little BBQ with some friends and then sent the boys off to watch fireworks.

The long weekend was nice. I took Friday off but sent Riley to daycare so I could tackle some of our moving boxes. :dead: We had a good weekend overall. Sunday we took her to the pool, and she had a blast. Phil stayed to watch the fireworks, but I took Riley home. I'm surprised she didn't wake with all the neighbors lighting fireworks off. :rolleyes: But she's been extra whiny since she's getting her last set of eye teeth in. :(

I feel so burned out from work, though. I should be getting a call this week for an interview with a newspaper, thanks in part to my FIL (but don't tell him I'm thanking him for something!), so keep your fingers crossed. I'm so ready for a change.

Not much exciting for the 4th here - Julian slept through our neighbors' barrage of fireworks (Sunday AND Monday nights :rolleyes: ), and I was thankful. Other than that, just hanging out around the house - I didn't even cook anything special.

I hate coming back after long weekends. The 4th was good. We went to the inlaws for a cookout. To make a long story short, my inlaws ended up driving Emma and I back to our house about 9:30 last night. My MIL just got a new convertible so we rode with the top down the whole way home. I thought the wind might bother Emma but she thought it was great. I put her sunglasses on her to help with the wind in her eyes and she got to see fireworks going off everywhere. She looked pretty cool in a convertible wearing sunglasses. hahaha

They were talking on the radio this morning that they should make the 5th a holiday too. Why should anyone expect us to come to work after staying up all night for fireworks? :lol: Especially when it doesnt even get dark enough for fireworks until 945 here.

I totally agree! I had to miss the fireworks in NY to drive back to Baltimore. Then, the fireworks in Baltimore were right near where I live so it woke Nathaniel up. Oh joy!
I'm just starting my new job and entering the fabulous world of single-parenthood (at least during the week). My husband and I survived the 1st week apart and Nathaniel finally seems to be adjusting to the Baltimore home. He was sure happy to be back in NY over the weekend (he missed his daddy and his dog!). I'm currently searching for a pediatrician for Nathaniel (preferably one with Saturday hours!).
I don't really have a handle on my new job yet. I'm going to be in the research lab all year. Thankfully, the lab supervisor is just coming back from maternity leave (next week!) so she's VERY understanding about childcare things! I also have to decide when to tell people at work about the impending twins. I want to wait AT LEAST a month from the time I started (that would be early August).

I'm so busy, I can't see straight. I had to take a break and hop on here.

We had a great 4th. Long weekend at home mostly. We went to a BBQ at a friends on Sat. On Sunday, we stayed home most of the day and on Monday we BBQ'd with the neighbors in our cul-de-sac and our kids played. It was great fun. We did our own fireworks. A neighbor went to Wyoming and brought back fireworks so we had a great show!

Am I ever going to have a post here that isn't whiny? Today sucked absolute ass. Julian did sleep all night, but woke up saying, "It's not time to go to school!" When we got there, he stood in the middle of the car (where it's a real challenge for me to reach him), stuck his bottom lip out, and said, "I wanna go home. I wanna go to work with you, mama." :blue: And of course, when I actually got ready to leave, he screamed. It stinks to start your day with the sound of your child howling, "Mamaaaaaaaa!" ringing in your ears. :bawl: On top of that, I'm PMS-ing, I'm coming to a job that doesn't pay me enough to make me feel like it's worth the heartache (although I can't do without the paycheck, that's for sure), I have unpleasant things to do at work today.... I got in the car and cried halfway to work.

And now I'm supposed to act like I care about the things I'm presenting to committee this morning. Right now, I just don't. My home life is too much - bedtime is a struggle, daycare drop-off is a struggle - and then I get to come to work. Sometimes it feels like there isn't a single part of my day that's actually *good*. :help2:

I'm off to wallow in my little pity pit now and make some halfhearted attempt to get work done. :mope:

At least then I'll only have bedtime battles and power struggles with a little boy to deal with. :) I just wish I had some option other than full-time work, and right now I don't. Not that I think I'd ever decide to stay home full-time - I'm too used to having my own financial resources to let myself be completely dependent on a man, and if I wasn't used to working and didn't have a degree and had relied on Kevin for the family income, I'd have been in a big ol' world of hurt when he said he wanted out. But I'd like to have the option to maybe work part-time, or to telecommute, or even to take a job just because it sounds interesting and not because I think it offers the best pay or benefits. And none of those options will be available to me anytime soon, if ever. I'm just in a funk today. I need chocolate - Wellbutrin alone just isn't cutting it! :lol:

Alysia, I know that hurts, too. There have been days (not recently, but there have been) where Julian didn't want to leave, he was having so much fun. And there have been times (recently) when he'll start in in the car on the way home - "I want to go to school." When I tell him school's closed and it's time to go home, I get, "School's not closed, I wanna go to school right now, I don't wanna go hoooooooome!" Yeah, that does your heart good when you've just rushed home from work to pick up your baby. :rolleyes: :lol: That's when I tell him, hey, right now your choices are mama or mama, deal with it. :lol:

This no-bra talk makes me laugh. A coworker (J) mentioned to another one (N) last week that she forgot to put on a bra at work. She and I were both like how could you forget a bra?

:bawl: Today was an absolute throw a fit at daycare day. She only goes twice a week and since they were closed on Monday this was her first day there this week. I think part of the problem is she DID NOT want to get up this morning! Plus she never gets to see her Daddy anymore since he works until 9 pm. He gets up every morning to get her dressed and ready to go while I am getting ready and the past two mornings she has not wanted to go with me to the car. She just cries and cries because she wants to stay with Daddy...

She was fine in the car and she didn't even cry when we got to the daycare she didn't throw her fit until I said "Let's go put your sheet and blanket away.." Then she freaked OUT! So, I picked her up and said," You'll be fine.. Look you can go play with Kaitlyn.." But, she kept crying so I just gave her a kiss and put her down and started to leave... The teacher said, "Is she not in a good mood today?" I wasnt quite sure how to respond to that... So I just said "She didn't want to get up this morning" and left...

Anyways, I think she will be fine after the afternoon teacher gets there.. she seems to be more attached to the afternoon girl than the morning one.

Friday ended horribly though. Because of my new schedule at work and traffic, I was late picking her up at daycare! I was SOOOO mad! And I felt horrible because she was the last one there!! (And I was only 2 minutes late!!) But, they didn't charge me. I am assuming because it was my first time ever being late. Anyways, G is going to daycare EVERYDAY this week instead of her normal two because the ILs are out of town. I plan on leaving work 15 minutes early everyday this week so I don't end up being late by 2 minutes again!!

Ugh..I am definitely in the I-hate-Mondays mood. I couldn't find my keys at all this morning. Of course, DH was already gone with the spare key for my car. Oh, I know who took my keys....a little cute 2 year old. I was looking in toy boxes, in the couch, under the couch. Once you start looking in the dirty laundry hamper, one is quite desperate.:blush1: Well...somebody from work came and picked me up. I finally arrived at 10:30. What a nice start for the week. Julian woke up at 2:00 this morning with this horrible hacking, wheezing, choking cough. :blue: We had a breathing treatment and it helped a bit, but I'm about to take off to take him to see his pediatrician. I got some good news today! I've been thinking about putting Nathaniel in daycare, at least part-time, before the twins come. I just think newborn twins and Nathaniel will be too much for my nanny AND I think it'll be good for him to be around kids his own age. I had heard the daycare associated with the hospital (it's a Bright Horizons which is supposed to be great and very education oreinted) has a long waitlist so I was worried. I sent in my application anyway. I spoke to them today and they said that they already have openings for the 2 year old room. She can't "guarantee" me a spot in January (when I'd like to start) but she says it looks really promising. Apparently the long wait-list is only for the infant room. I feel much better about things knowing that we have that option available!

Oh yes, the I-don't wannas are here in force today. My DH turned on the alarm last night before bed and it went off at midnight. We had a power outage over the weekend so the alarm didn't get reset. So I was up until around 2am trying to go back to sleep. Of course, he didn't wake up.....just continued to snore......

Oh, I could definitely go for a nap! We had a thunderstorm at 5am this morning. I had just gotten back to sleep after Darren's 4am alarm clock when the storm started. It kept me up until 6am.

Plus, I painted the baby's room yesterday and I'm in major pain right now. Every muscle in my body aches.

I was going to maybe go home early today but since I haven't accomplished ANYTHING this morning, I might as well go get some lunch and come back and try to do something this afternoon.

Hi everyone! I'm finally popping my head in here.

I don't know if this topic has been covered in the past 200-or-some-odd posts, but here it goes...I'm thinking about starting to *seriously* potty train Jackson. Every time I think about it, it becomes more and more complicated in my brain. My biggest worry about doing this is the consistency of going to the potty at Jackson's school versus me asking him every 20 minutes at home. Not to mention he's at school more than he's at home. I mean, can I leave specific instructions for his teachers? They have 15 toddlers- not all of them are really ever there at the same time (2 teachers and even an aide since it's summer time). I'm afraid of sending Jackson in undies and then picking him up in diapers/pull-ups. He's also one of the oldest, so he doesn't have anyone older than him to get a little "peer pressure" from.

Is any of this making sense? I know it can be a smoother transition for a mom who stays home, and that's what I'm worried about. I don't really want to be potty training for months and months until he "gets it".

Any advice?

Tracey, I think Jackson is still a little young, unless he's shown interest in it. Wait until he's ready and it won't be months and months. Alex wanted to potty all the time right around 2 because other kids were PTing at daycare. I thought I had it made, however that was very short lived. We just started seriously on July 1st (at 33 months) when my DH was home from work for 5 days with an injury. We started with naked PTing and he did great. The first day back at daycare, Alex wore a pull-up and that did no good. The next day we did underwear and that made the difference. He told me that he didn't need diapers anymore so we took the Diaper Champ out to the trash and said goodbye :lol:. I even got rid of the diaper changing pad on his dresser. He was ready and it's going really well. He has one accident a day on average but hasn't the past few days. He's even doing well with pooping now.

My daycare lady was happy to do it. And yes, you should leave specific instructions for daycare and they should be very willing to help.

Thanks for your input Becky! I don't think Jackson's quite ready, especially since Aiden moved up to the 3 year old room, that's when his interest stopped. He's NOT interested at all at home. I will just follow his lead and see how it goes!

Tracey, I'm with Becky. Julian just turned three, and he's doing great with peeing in the potty. I despaired of it ever happening, and his daycare teacher was working with him and encouraging me to make more of a big deal of it at home. But he was completely uninterested in the potty at home, and he does best left to his own devices. I didn't push, and now he'll dash for the potty, get his stepstool, pull down his pants, and pee! :yippee: Poop may be another matter, but for now, he's making great progress. So I think you'd be right to just follow Jackson's lead. Good luck! :)

I just got word today that in a year, I have to move Alex to pre-school. I know it's a year away but still........ My daycare lady lost the bus stop in front of her house so now she can only take infants and toddlers up to 4. Her license has to change. I'm so bummed. She has an awesome preschool program. Alex was going to be able to stay there when he started kindergarten and would have been able to go for "track-off" time too, but now that won't be happening. I'm so bummed. I'm going to have to start looking now so I get an idea of how broke we are going to be. SH*T!!!!! I don't know what I'm going to do.

It's been a hellish week, made even more fun by the fact that Julian and I both have poison oak. :tearhair: His started on Saturday, went to the ER Sunday night/Monday morning, and he's much improved. Mine started on Tuesday and was absolutely unbearable Wednesday and yesterday. I went to the doctor today - they gave me a nice steroid shot and a prescription for some oral steroids, so hopefully I'll be on the mend soon!

Hey all, I haven't posted in here yet... but since I'm sitting here at work goofing off, now seems like a good time to start!

Our computers have been jacked for almost two weeks. First a squirrel got into the transformers and it the process of blowing itself into smithereens, also did a number on all our internal systems. Then a virus wiped out the printers. Then the power outage triggered this bizarre chain reaction of problems that are still plaguing us. So once you've clean your desk and/or organized files, there's a lot of standing around and chit chatting. Or for me, who can still access the internet, a little "surfin..."

If we're still down at 2:30 I'm sending my staff home, but I'll still have to sit here and, I guess, spin around in my chair.

Thanks for the sympathy, Ladies... I am so ready to be done with this place but I am really trying to stick it out through the end of the year.

My hubby just called to tell me that Genavieve through an absolute tantrum this morning when he dropped her off at daycare. I told him, "Great, thanks for making me feel bad!".

He also told me they made him sign something to move her up from the Waddler room to the Toddler Room. :blue: I am kind of sad about that because she really loves the afternoon teacher in the Waddler Room; I didn't think they would move her up until January.

And to top it off.... I was supposed to be at work by 6 this morning... had my alarm set for 4:45.... and it never went off!! I woke up at 5:53 and looked at the clock 4 times before I realized what was wrong. :coffee:

Don't feel bad... must be something in the air. I turned my alarm off thinking it was Saturday when in fact it was Friday. Aiden wouldn't let us leave him at daycare as he wanted to spend the day with us...so he had a meltdown. I swear it's going to be one of those days.

Brenna has been screaming when I leave her at daycare. Breaks my heart since I have been literally running out the door when that starts!

Alysia, I can't tell you how many times I've overslept, waking up as late as 7:05 when I'm supposed to be at work by 8:00. :eek: (And I've got to get J ready and make my minimum-40-minute commute, too!) That sucks.

I can't focus today. I'm worn out, and I'm worried about helping family affected by Katrina. And I know I'll be going home to a really clingy, mama-focused little boy - Julian has wanted nothing but mama all weekend long, probably partially due to having family there and the change in his routine. He'd freak out and come looking for me if I so much as left the room to go pee, and if Kevin would try to get Julian to stay with him while I did something, Julian would say, "I don't like Daddy, I want MAMA!" Not that I don't love my son, but that constant neediness is just draining. :dead:

I'm also worried about how I'll pay my bills given my current salary and the hideous price of gas. :blue: I need a better-paying job big-time.

:nod: I am with you on the bills etc, Lisa. I am going to start seriously looking for a new job this month to hopefully find something closer to home. I will probably take a paycut but I would save money in gas so I dont know.

I am feeling better about the change in daycare. I think there will be more activity for Genavieve in the new room. I talked to the teacher in the new room Friday afternoon when I picked her up and they do art projects in this room. I also discovered the new room is a little bit cheaper per week and saving a few dollars a week never hurts!

Alysia, I hope you can find something that's better for you. And hooray for a little savings on daycare costs - every little bit helps! :)

The bad thing about where I am is that there aren't any jobs to speak of in my field that are close to home. If they'd have me back (and those bridges may be burned, I'm not sure), the DA's office is about the only place I could work that would be really close to home. And that would probably be at least a $10,000 pay cut unless I went back as a felony prosecutor (which I do not care to do). I wouldn't save enough in gas to make it financially feasible to do that, so I just need to find a job I can commute to that pays a lot more than what I make now. I just hope I can do that before I'm so broke that I'm living in a box under a bridge. :blue:

Hi everyone. I haven't been here in awhile. I'm trying to actually do more work at work.

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to look for a new job while I'm on maternity leave. It seems like a good time to look. I haven't told work. I won't tell them until I actually get a new job, just in case I have to come back here for awhile. We did some looking at our budget and figured out that I can take a pretty decent pay cut and we'll still be ok once our house refi goes through this month. So that's a huge load off my shoulders.

I do have a vent, though. My mom asked my aunt (who works at Northrop Grumman) to see if there were any fire protection engineer positions available there. I have told my mom repeatedly that I do NOT want to be an engineer anymore. I don't like it, it's boring, it's too much pressure and stress, and I don't feel like I'm very good at it. I can't seem to retain any information that I should just know and I think it's because I just really hate the kind of work.

But she doesn't get it. Why doesn't she understand that I don't want to do this anymore? It's not that hard to understand, is it? Maybe, after 8 years, I finally figured out that I don't LIKE being an engineer! But I guess she thinks that's the only thing I can do because that's what I went to school for? I don't know what she thinks but I'm getting tired of it all.

Brooke, I'll bet that's exactly what your mom thinks - you went to school to be an engineer, so that's all you can do. Either that, or she thinks you went to all the time and effort and expense of getting that degree in that field, what a waste it would be not to use it. If I told my dad I wanted to get out of law, he'd blow a fuse thinking of all he'd paid to put me through law school. :lol: I hope you find a good job, close to home, that pays well and that doesn't make you bonkers. :hug99:

It's my late night at work. I hate answering phones. No, I HATE answering phones. :puke: So I'll be here for another hour and a half. I'm praying that I don't get any calls!

Wish me luck - I'm applying for a position in a different area where I work. My manager knows, so it's all clear on that front (that's one good thing about working here, if there's another area you're interested in, you're not discouraged from applying for any open positions). I know there are several people applying internally as well as externally, so competition may be fairly stiff. My biggest concern is that they'll think I'm overqualified for the position. That position is normally seen as a stepping stone to what I do now (I don't think it should be, but my opinion on that matters not), and they may find it curious that I'm going in the reverse direction. But a big, big part of the document is reviewing, interpreting and summarizing legal documents, and I am damned good at that - that's what I did for four years at my previous job. I've found several instances where document provisions were summarized incorrectly on the system, and I know anything I put in would be right. That's important to the people doing my job, because they rely on the information on the system, and if it's not right, that can really screw them up. So I think I'd be great at it. And as long as the pay is decent and it's work I enjoy, I don't care if they call me kitchen wench. We'll see how it goes - y'all keep your fingers crossed for me! :jump:

I think you should explain to them why you don't see it as a step down. Since you've been in both positions, explain how important the new position is to you, how you've seen mistakes in the past (in your current position) and how you think you'd be a great asset to the firm in the new position.

I had my interview this morning. It was supposed to be 30 minutes, we talked for 40, so maybe that's good. My biggest concern is that the hiring manager told me this was a very structured position, and that she was concerned I'd be bored with it, that it wouldn't be challenging enough. I said that my personality is such that I really do better with structure than the chaos of my current position (and everyone acknowledges that the position I currently hold is chaotic, not just for me but for all the others in the same job role). I know I'd do a kick-ass good job at it, but if they're worried that I'll be bored in the new position, that shoots a hole in my chances. Also, there are two groups on the team I'm trying to join - one core group of people who want to do nothing but what that team does, and another group of people who are basically taken on that team and trained for other roles (and the most common move they make is to doing what I'm doing now). If a spot opens up doing what I currently do, that pool is the first place higher-ups look for people to fill those openings. The hiring manager asked me if I'd still be interested knowing that in a short time I could possibly be sent back to my current position. I told her that I felt much better suited for what I was interviewing for, but that if I had to go back to where I am now, I could do that. (Biggest fear there: ending up on a different team than I'm currently on and getting a manager I might not like or teammates I might not like as much as the ones I have now.) There are other places to move to, not just what I currently do, but it depends on what openings are out there. I said I'd still be interested, though. If I do get the job, I just hope that doesn't come back to bite me in the butt later.

My company is driving me bonkers with all the FMLA crap. They have a handbook but no one really knows what's in it or what I have to do. I've been asking for a month and today they are just getting me the request form and they say I now need a note saying I'm pregnant. Well, I guess I should into myself here..I just got a job as a stock person at a local Zellers (http://www.hbc.com/zellers/) store,it's similar to Wallyworld :rolleyes: but it's Canadian owned.. I'll be working part time night shift (9:30-5 am :sleeping: ) not sure how I'm going to do at that, I have experience being up all night with both girls being colicky :lol: I know it never gets easy working nights though, Tony and my sister have been doing it for years and it's not something you can get used to, you just "do it".. I'm really only doing this to help Tony pay off some of our debt, now that Paige is in school full time I feel the need to contribute, for that one week that Paige was at school and I was home I was going insane with boredom!! and I was also starting to get depressed so it may not be a "profesional" degree job but it's a job non the less and so far I'm happy with it..ask me how I feel in a few months and I'm sure you'll get a different answer :lol:

Well, I didn't get that job. But my current position may be modified in such a way that it would decrease my stress level *considerably*. Another officer and I both handle accounts for the same state. He's really good with people stuff, and I'm really good with compliance/computer/regulatory stuff. We've joked, and told our manager, that we should be a tag team, with John doing the people stuff and me doing the computer/regulatory stuff. We'd always been told that that couldn't be done. Well, now we're going to try it! :yippee: My manager asked me to think about how I thought the work should be divided, how it would be split in an ideal world, and he's going to talk to John next week about it, see what he thinks. I am so excited!!! :jump: We're in a unique situation, I think we're the only officers where just two of us work on accounts from the same state, and our personalities and skill sets just happen to fall out along the lines where division of duties would work. Not sure how soon we'll start or how exactly the labor will be divided, but I'm just glad we're getting the chance to try it. I'm going to do my best to do an absolutely kick-ass job, both to hopefully benefit myself (in the form of possible raises and promotions because I'll be able to do a really good job), and to benefit others if this is something that works (it might open up an opportunity for other people to work more in the area where their talents lie rather than strictly doing everything on one book of accounts). Wow, this is the most excited I've been about my job in a long time! :)

I was at a 4 day conference over the weekend. It was exhausting but fun. I made some really important connections which will certainly help me get a job when I'm done in Baltimore. Nathaniel stayed with my husband so I haven't seen him in almost a week. I can't wait to go home today and see him!!!

Why am I here?! When I got here this morning, the ladies going up the elevator with me said people were being sent home. I wasn't quite sure whether they were serious or not. Then I got to my floor to find that there's been a water main break, and our building (that's right, the whole building) has no air conditioning and no water (and therefore, no use of the restrooms). Other people in the building are being sent home. But are we? Nooooooooo. :rolleyes: Instead, we get an e-mail saying that it may be 3 or 4 hours or more before things are fixed, and that in the meantime we can use the restrooms on the 18th and 19th floors of a building two blocks away. :rant: Don't wait until the last minute to decide you need to go to the bathroom, huh?! I'm sorry, I just don't think my work is so vital that it requires me to stay here in less than ideal working conditions. I guess I should be thankful that this is happening in October and not in July - it would have been too hot to be bearable then.

I am ass-kickin' busy today, and probably will be all week. My partner is taking care of a bunch of proactive calls for both of our books, which means I'm handling all the other work on both books. I'm up to my EYEBALLS in crap!!! :crazy: I keep telling myself, you volunteered for this. :lol: And it's a lot of work now, but once a lot of it gets done, it won't have to be redone. So it will clean things up and make the workload easier in the long run.

Our manager's wife went into labor last night, so he'll be out for the next three weeks. That will either make it easier for me to get work done, or harder - I haven't decided which yet. :lol:

WHEW!!!!! It's been a hella busy day - I am WIPED OUT. But at least I feel productive. The new job alignment may be stressful right now, but it's stuff that doesn't make me want to throw up, and in the long run all the work now will actually make things easier. So it's all for a good cause.

I'm just sick. This job - AARGH. :tearhair: You go along, trying to do your best, thinking you're doing OK. Then something slips through the cracks, there's a complaint, and you're in a world of hurt. I'm only human, I miss things sometimes, I don't need to be made to feel like a small child over it. :banghead: And naturally this happens right before my quarterly review. Complaints were a big issue last time, so I know it's going to be a topic of discussion. And I've done well since last time, with the exception of these last two. But I'm sure that won't matter so much, I'll just get a big lecture about staying on top of things and how I need to do better. And I'm sure this means no raise or bonus for me next year, either. This sucks. Maybe I'm just not cut out for this job. I feel like kicking something.

Everyone going to be enjoying a short week this week? I only get Thursday off. Sucks since DH has both Thursday and Friday off.

I'm lucky this year since I'm working in a research lab. I'm leaving mid-day on Wednesday and taking the rest of the week off. Next year I probably won't be so lucky!
