View Full Version : We should be working! Group Journal #2 Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:08 PM Here it is! Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:11 PM Lisa~ I am sorry today has started out rough!! I hope it gets better! (It can only get better, right?) :hug99: Not much going on here today. Just playing catch up since I stayed home with some medical issues yesterday. bunkie68 June 28th, 2005, 01:13 PM Thanks for the hugs, y'all. :) I'm feeling a bit better now - not quite so emotionally beat up. I know he likes school, likes his teacher, likes playing with his buddies (he now tells me they're his friends - smart boy! :) ). And I know we all have days where we just don't want to leave the house, we'd rather stay home. But it sure is hard to leave him screaming. Today has been OK at work. Fairly quiet, and I'm hoping that continues. I'm hoping the whole week is pretty quiet, since there's a holiday coming up! Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:14 PM Amen to that, Lisa! I am really hoping this week will be quiet!! I need a break! (Even though I wasn't here yesterday! ) Darcy June 28th, 2005, 01:16 PM I'm here! :wavey: It's a coworker's birthday today, so I made some of the infamous brownies. Yeah, I've had 4 already! And someone already asked me for the recipe. Is it time to go home yet? Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:17 PM Oooo I havent been brave enough to try those brownies yet. I am sure they would not be sanctioned by Weight Watchers. Brooke June 28th, 2005, 01:19 PM It must be something in the air. Rebekah cried when I dropped her off at my mom's house today. Lately her new thing is that she just doesn't want to leave our house in the mornings. Lisa - Rebekah's teachers used to do the same thing when she'd cry and it really doesn't help at all. Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:21 PM Just for fun... I thought I would add this since we are still on the first page... Stats from our first journal! In the other thread and around journals here in general. I guess it's my summer time blues. I read, but then when I get to posting, it just doesn't happen. Work has been busy too. My manager retired at the end of May and we found out this week that most of his work will come to me and my counterpart. Geez, that's just great! Darcy June 28th, 2005, 01:26 PM Work has been busy too. My manager retired at the end of May and we found out this week that most of his work will come to me and my counterpart. Geez, that's just great! And I'm sure that means you'll get the manager's salary, too. :rotflmao: That's the way it works, right? Eleanor June 28th, 2005, 01:28 PM #2 already? I haven't been keeping up, since I've actually been :gasp: busy at work! :) I should be dictating, now, but I just needed a few minutes to myself to eat lunch in peace! I found out a few weeks ago that my partner is leaving at the end of July :( So things are going to get even busier! They're recruiting for someone to replace her...but at a minimum it takes 2 months to get credentials at the hospital (and if whoever they hire doesn't have an IL medical license, it takes even longer)- so I'm a solo practioner for a while, I guess... Thank goodness I have people to share weekend call with! bunkie68 June 28th, 2005, 01:37 PM Just for fun... I thought I would add this since we are still on the first page... Lisa - Rebekah's teachers used to do the same thing when she'd cry and it really doesn't help at all. That's how Julian was this morning - "I don't wanna go to school, I wanna stay home!" I told him that that's how life works, some days we've gotta do things we don't particularly want to do. And I may ask his teachers not to do that, unless it's getting to where I really need to get out of there. I'd rather take the couple of extra minutes and let him decide to let go on his own. Lette June 28th, 2005, 01:40 PM And I'm sure that means you'll get the manager's salary, too. :rotflmao: That's the way it works, right? :lol2: AH, but of course! Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:46 PM So this tells us who's goofing off the most, huh? :lol2:  I am proud to take first place in that category!! :lol2: Trish June 28th, 2005, 01:46 PM :wavey: Back from lunch and I so want to go home. It's actually kind of hot in there today - the air doesn't seem to be working quite as it should in my area - so, I'm not and bored and would rather be home getting my house organized. I still have boxes setting around :blush1: Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:48 PM I wish it was lunch time here. But, its only 10:45... I may go early today at 11:30 instead of waiting until 12:30. I am HUNGRY!! JennyB June 28th, 2005, 01:53 PM Hey girls! Mind if I jump in here. New thread.....new member. I am currently a recruiter for Bank and work M-Th 7:30 - 5:30 and then "work" for four hours from home on Friday. Alysia June 28th, 2005, 01:55 PM Ooohh that sounds like a nice schedule, Jenny! Trish June 28th, 2005, 01:58 PM I like the sounds of your schedule, too, Jenny  JennyB June 28th, 2005, 02:04 PM My boss is so layed back. We have a term called "Pulling a Houdini" (disappearing act). Basically, you leave all of your lights and your computer monitor on but you leave early. We pull houdini's a lot. He's the one that made it up. One day I told him I was pulling a Houdini and he said, "It's not a Houdini if you tell me." So I don't tell him anymore! bunkie68 June 28th, 2005, 02:05 PM Welcome, Jenny! I work for a bank, too, but I like your schedule better than mine. Nocona June 28th, 2005, 02:10 PM I really like that schedule too. My department is trying to come up with something like that since we all are here 7-5 M-F and everyone's burnt out on it. I'm back from lunch. I met 2 of my friends and their kids and Paul brought Matthew & Sara. 4 kids under 4 and 3 adults (Paul bailed  ). Fun stuff  Shanna June 28th, 2005, 02:25 PM :wavey: HOpefully back to be able to check in on a regular basis again  kim June 28th, 2005, 02:41 PM i've been busier in the last 2 months than i have been in the last 8 yrs  sucks! i'm 'summering' in a different bldg and the woman in the cube over the wall is one annoying mofo!!! omg she is one of those marketing/sales 'me me me' people, talks really loud on the phone and uses speaker phone extensively. i had to buy new headphones just to deal! Shanna June 28th, 2005, 02:42 PM I'm hoping for an ipod for my birthday so I can block out the world  Alysia June 28th, 2005, 02:42 PM That bites, Kim! Jenny, your boss sounds AWESOME!! Shanna and Nocona, good to see you! Shanna June 28th, 2005, 02:44 PM Any of y'all have ipods???? I'm curious as to how well they work AT work  kim June 28th, 2005, 02:46 PM no ipod here. i just copy cd's to my laptop. i also am mapped to my friend paul's laptop, so i listen to his stuff too. Alysia June 28th, 2005, 02:46 PM  Nope. I don't have one. I wear a headset for my phone at work so it wouldn't really work well with that! Shanna June 28th, 2005, 02:49 PM My computer at work sucks  I can't run a CD and any of my work apps, so that is out of the question and the radio stations (that I can get in my building) suck, so I'm kinda SOL. I listen to shoutcast at times, but its pretty repititious  Alysia June 28th, 2005, 02:51 PM :dunno: I don't think any radio stations come in very good in my building. Frustrating considering there are two huge radio towers on the hill behind us. Shanna June 28th, 2005, 02:59 PM I figured an ipod would solve all my problems  My parents and I went in and got John one for his birthday and now I think I want one for mine :blush1: But, I would be happy with just an ipod mini... I don't need THAT much storage space  kim June 28th, 2005, 03:21 PM go for it shanna! i'm going to get one for marc for his birthday, because he takes the train to work everyday (about an hour). right now he puts mp3's on his palm tungsten. if i didn't have my laptop i'd get one as well . Shanna June 28th, 2005, 03:23 PM I hadn't thought of putting them on my palm!! My laptop is thrashed at the moment (Thanks, Son! ) Brooke June 28th, 2005, 03:36 PM One of my coworkers listens to an iPod all day long. I can't stand headphones - they give me a headache - and I can't concentrate with music playing so none of that would work for me. Oh - and no radio stations come in where I am in the building. I have listened to the radio online, though. Club977, I think. Pretty good music. Livia's Mommy June 28th, 2005, 03:41 PM Delurking to say hello, girls :). Actually....avoiding work for a minute . It's hot as hell in my building, too, Trish. It's 100 here in Dallas today and my office has a window. Sucks when it is this hot. Oh - and I'm another that had a kiddo crying when I left this morning and that NEVER happens :).- Erin Silke June 28th, 2005, 03:45 PM So this tells us who's goofing off the most, huh? :lol2: Had the same thought. Boy, I am #4....ooopps. Well....at least in my defense....I didn't make here today until page 2. Great title, Alysia  JennyB June 28th, 2005, 03:48 PM I can't concentrate and listen to the radio. I meet with candidates in person and on the phone all day so it wouldn't be practical. I sit in a room of four people and I like them so we talk all day. Shanna June 28th, 2005, 03:58 PM I sit in my own office and have a crappy to 40 radio station to listen to :dead: Alysia June 28th, 2005, 04:03 PM I like most of the people around me. And we chat quite a bit throughout the day. But, I spend most of time here chatting. Its more entertaining and I enjoy the people here more. Trish June 28th, 2005, 04:04 PM I ocasionally have student employees working with me and I do have a radio to listen to, but I'm usually reading what's going on here, so I think I block out the radio  Shanna June 28th, 2005, 04:08 PM I'm the only female for 8 offices down the hall  I'm kinda in no man's land  bunkie68 June 28th, 2005, 05:23 PM It's hot as hell in my building, too, Trish. It's 100 here in Dallas today and my office has a window. Erin, come to my office - it's cold enough in here to hang meat! And I'm sorry you were in the howling kid club this morning, that sucks. :hug99: Shanna June 28th, 2005, 05:23 PM I have absolutely *NO* motivation today :dead: My boss left early, I'm thinking I may sneak out early too  Alysia June 28th, 2005, 05:26 PM  My boss just left too. No sneaking out for me though. :nono: Maybe 1/2 an hour early but 2 hours would be too much! And my boss' flex day is tomorrow so we affectionately call Wednesday "Friday #1" around here!! As an added bonus this week... she will be gone on "Friday #2" this week too!!! :woo: Shanna June 28th, 2005, 05:38 PM Heh... well.... its 20 till 5 here  Alysia June 28th, 2005, 06:04 PM :dead: Its just now 3 here. JennyB June 28th, 2005, 06:12 PM I've been on here a lot this week too. (It's only Tuesday!!) Plus, I am really grouchy so I am trying not to be mean to them. I am taking a vacation day tomorrow. Mark is home through the week but has a training class so I get to stay home with Emma. I will pop on throughout the day, when time permits! Alysia June 28th, 2005, 06:18 PM Enjoy your Emma day tomorrow!! I am working a 1/2 day on Thursday because my ILs are going out of town Wednesday night!! So, I'll get to spend most of the day with Genavieve! (I am only working 6 am to 11 am) It will be an extremely early day for me so I hope she will take an afternoon nap with me! (I normally wake up at 6 and am nowhere near work at the hour of the morning! ) Nadine June 29th, 2005, 05:42 AM Subscribing again... I started my new job on May 2nd and I LOVE it (should I be careful and say so far? I hope not)! I had a stressy day on Monday and had to finish a Getting Started Guide and Release Notes - but I made it. And you know what? I had FUN doing it because I like technical writing. The "downside" is that I have MUCH less online time. So I guess I will only come by for a visit here every now and then, because, as the title says... I should be working. In other news - I am ... late. Got 2 BFNs so far but AF's last visit was on May 14th. I have a gyn appointment tonight (9:45 pm) and will hopefully know more afterwards. I am nervous as hell and would like to know what the heck is going on with my body..... More other news: Sunday we are going on vacation to Eilat for 5 days! YAY! Can't wait! OK- back to work.... (It is also harder to keep up here because I am working when you are all asleep or barely waking up.... and vice versa) Nadine June 29th, 2005, 05:43 AM Oh- that brings me to a question: How long are your kids' summer holidays and what do you do with them while they are on vacation (assuming you have less v days them they do)? Nadine June 29th, 2005, 05:45 AM Yumi has 2 whole months of summer vacation (here it is rightfully called the Big Vacation). I have a 3 week day camp for him and TG I have the ILs to look after him. I can't take off a lot since I have a new job and Yehuda always has one of his peak stress times during July-August. Shoham's DC is on vacation starting August 8th. Then she will join Yumi at ILs or I'll have a person looking after them at home for 2 weeks. Will cost a fortune... Nocona June 29th, 2005, 08:20 AM I hope you get some answers at your appointment tonight, Nadine. Are appointments that late typical there? That would be impossible to get in the US  Matthew is doing summer preschool camp on Mondays and Wednesday from 9-12. That goes through July and then he has all of August off before regular preschool (MWF 9-1) starts again at the beginning of September. JennyB June 29th, 2005, 09:14 AM That is late. At first, I thought that might be nice and then realized that it wouldn't give me a reason to leave work for a couple of hours. Shanna June 29th, 2005, 09:15 AM I was thinking the same thing! An OB that is open past 5pm here is an accident  The kids don't really know the difference between summer and the rest of the year yet (just that its hotter and nastier) but I'm sure that will change in the next few years  We're not going on vacation (again) b/c it just isn't feasible with John's job, 3 kids and $$ I'm hoping that John will start keeping the kids in the mornings b/c it is just ridiculous to pay for that much daycare  Darcy June 29th, 2005, 09:20 AM My doctor's office just started having late hours on Wednesdays, and they're open certain Saturdays (I think it's every other Saturday), but I like Jenny's comment in that office hours during work hours gives you a chance to slip out. :aok: Riley doesn't know the difference of summer either since she's 19 months. I went with Phil to drop her off this morning (he normally takes her), but he has a meeting this afternoon until 6, so I'm on pick-up duty. We only have the one car seat and it doesn't fit in my car, so we had to switch cars. Anyway, of course Riley was extra clingy since I'm not normally there. But the minute the teacher asked her if she wanted to see the babies in the infant room, she let go of me and started waving. Little stinker. bunkie68 June 29th, 2005, 10:28 AM Hey, Nadine! :wavey: Good to see you! I hope the doc can tell you what's going on. And I'm with Jenny, I like having appointments during the day so I have an excuse to leave work early. Julian doesn't yet really know the difference between summer and the rest of the year, since he's just about to turn 3. He goes to daycare every day, all he knows is right now it's really hot and the sun stays up a lot longer! (He told me one night that he didn't have to go to bed because it wasn't dark yet! ) A little good news - y'all remember that outside position I was interested in? No decision has been made yet, and I'm still in the running. :yippee: There may be word by the end of the week. Y'all keep your fingers crossed for me! JennyB June 29th, 2005, 10:29 AM We aren't really in the position to be going to Ireland this summer since we just bought a new house but this is probably Dori and Jamie's last summer there so we would never be able to go this cheap again. Alysia June 29th, 2005, 12:32 PM My crossables are crossed, Lisa!! Jenny~ Definitely go while you can! That's how I got to go to Europe a few years ago. My best friend and her hubby were stationed in Germany and my mom paid for the airfare! (Of course my Mom decided she had to go too... but it was still a great experience!) kim June 29th, 2005, 12:42 PM good luck tonite nadine! :crossfing lisa! my kids are also too small to know there is such a thing as summer vacation. however, when the time comes they will still be able to go to my dcp if i want them to. i'm not sure i will. i am hoping to be a sahm by the time tony is in first grade anyway (that gives marc 4 yrs to up his salary big time  ) JennyB June 29th, 2005, 01:34 PM Just wanted to share that I am sitting in my house in my comfy clothes without any makeup on. Woo hoo!!! Yea for a vacation day. :yippee: :tongue2: Shanna June 29th, 2005, 01:35 PM I'm siting at my desk in comfy clothes without any makeup on chatting away b/c I have *NOTHING TO DO* :banghead: Silke June 29th, 2005, 01:54 PM Well....I am still in PJ's with a sick child. Maybe I get dressed by the time DH comes through the door. kim June 29th, 2005, 02:27 PM I'm siting at my desk in comfy clothes without any makeup me too. i don't dress for work. jeans and a tshirt. and i never wear makeup. unfortunately i'm wicked busy today. Shanna June 29th, 2005, 02:28 PM me too. i don't dress for work. jeans and a tshirt. and i never wear makeup. unfortunately i'm wicked busy today. Thats me. I don't wear makeup and only dress up if I'm meeting with clients  Darcy June 29th, 2005, 02:29 PM I don't dress up either. T-shirt and jeans today as well. I have stuff I *should* be doing, but honestly I don't want to do it. :) I'm trying to see how long I can avoid it before I actually have to do it. JennyB June 29th, 2005, 03:00 PM Well, now see....I thought I was being mean and you all get to dress comfy every day! Jokes on me! Shanna June 29th, 2005, 03:11 PM  I think we take "business casual" to the extreme at times  Nocona June 29th, 2005, 03:12 PM Jeans and any shirt around here too. Shorts on Fridays during the summer if we want :) Shanna June 29th, 2005, 03:14 PM One of the attorneys came in wearing shorts last week  Alysia June 29th, 2005, 03:31 PM You are ALL making me jealous. The closest I can get to comfy are a pair of khakis bunkie68 June 29th, 2005, 04:57 PM Sucks to y'all who get to come in really casual. We're business casual, sure, but that's not the same as jeans or shorts! Nocona June 29th, 2005, 05:02 PM Where I used to work went from jeans ok sometimes to the most casual you could be was khakis. Then I came here and my boss wanted me to just wear jeans to my interview. I couldn't do it  AliMarie12 June 29th, 2005, 08:21 PM :bawl: I went to drop Genna off at daycare yesterday, and the provider told me she is going to have to give up daycare because of health problems (back issues apparently). NOT what I needed to deal with since I am due to have a baby and we are moving right now. I cried right there in her house. She said we could have a month to find new daycare, but since I am off right now, that isn't the big issue. I was hoping to use her after the baby was born a few days a week to give me a break and keep Genna in a routine, but MIL or SIL are happy to watch her for me a few days a week too. But now I have to find new daycare for Genna and the baby for the fall. I feel so bad for Genna because she is having such a big change already with the baby and a move :( Then our power went out in a storm last night. We had to spend last night at MIL's. Ugh. We didn't get much done needless to say. On a positive note, the baby is no longer breech :yippee: And on another note, I started calling new daycare's yesterday, and one happen to have an open house today. We went, and I think we really like it. It is a small center. They are licensed for 50, but will only take about 30 kids. The infant area is birth to 2.5 years (so there is some continuity of care there) and only can have 12 children at a time with a ration of 1:4 at all times. They have some of the greatest play equipment, a preschool program, and do activities like gymnastic and music from time to time. Genna loved playing there. It is a little more expensive than our current one, but you get a lot more instructional activity than the one she was in since it was just a home (although we thoguht she got GREAT care). Ok, now that I have basically put an entire personal journal post in here, I should go now  bunybomb June 30th, 2005, 09:33 AM I'm gone for a couple days and we get a new journal and it's up to 4 pages! Damn, why did I have to be so buried at work the past couple days. I'm back from Vegas. Lost my shorts...well I should clarify, I lost all the money I brought to gamble with on The Beverly Hillbillies pennies slots. That's about all I can swallow when in Vegas. I've been slammed at work, can't wait for the long weekend. Shanna June 30th, 2005, 09:43 AM My boss just called me and he's out house shopping 5 hours away today  So.... looks like I've got a pretty BORING day ahead of me  On another note, Addyson was in the kitchen this morning (b/c John didn't put up the baby gate :furious: ) and fell against the high chair and put a tooth through her lower lip, so I'm waiting for my peds' office to call back to see whether or not I need to bring her in  bunkie68 June 30th, 2005, 09:48 AM Alicia, I'm sorry about daycare. :bighug: Shanna, I hope Addyson is OK and that no doctor visit is needed! :hug99: Welcome back, Becky! Today is shaping up to be hellish. I have a committee meeting at 9:00, training from 10 to 12 (and this training goes on every Tues. and Thurs. until the beginning of August  ), and our team meeting at 1:00 until who knows when (they sometimes run a little long). It's also the last day of the month for me to get all my phone calls done, and I'm way behind. And this isn't counting my regular day-to-day work. :faint: Is it Friday yet?! Nocona June 30th, 2005, 10:05 AM Almost, Lisa! Alicia - yea for the baby turning around! He should stay that way now. That sucks about daycare but it sounds like the new one is going to work out well :aok: Welcome back, Becky! OUCH, Shanna! Hopefully it's not so bad that she needs sutures :errr: My a/c is acting up at home so they are sending someone out this morning. I casually mentioned that I have a 2 month old and suddenly they could come ASAP  Then my boss showed up and he's not supposed to be here today. He's leaving in a bit. I have tons to do (it's our insurance renewal day and I have to get all kinds of stuff out), but I don't feel like it. My pillow is calling my name! JennyB June 30th, 2005, 10:33 PM We must have been busy today! I know I was (for a change!!) :woo: bunkie68 June 30th, 2005, 10:50 PM Nocona, did you get the A/C fixed? I feel your pain - had to put in a whole new unit last week. Ouch. But you can't do without it! I was slammed all day long - it never stopped. Promotions were announced this afternoon - seven people got promoted. I wasn't one of them, but then, I didn't expect to be. We're talking about raises next week. Our manager has said he got a total of 2.5% of our team's combined base salaries to allocate as raises. Being as how the most any of us could get, given that fact, would be a 2.5% raise, and being as how our team leader just got a (well-deserved) promotion (and the money for the pay increase will come out of the amount allocated for raises), I'm thinking it will be slim pickings for the rest of the team as far as raises go. So I'm not expecting a raise - that way I won't be as disappointed if I don't get one. And I got a rejection e-mail from the job I interviewed for a few weeks ago. :blue: That sucks. Oh well, I have that other one coming up on Wednesday (did I tell y'all about that?), so maybe this just clears the way for them to make me a really good offer and me to take it. I hope so, I'd love to have some good news! We get off at 3:00 tomorrow, yay! :yippee: That will be nice. Alysia July 1st, 2005, 12:00 AM I could have sworn I posted in here from work today! Oh well! Lisa~ Good luck with the next interview! Sorry you didnt get the other position! Nadine July 1st, 2005, 05:02 AM Thanks for the concern! I hope you get some answers at your appointment tonight, Nadine. Are appointments that late typical there? That would be impossible to get in the US My gyn works in the hospital and a women health clinic during the day and in his own clinic on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-10pm. I can't leave work early/in the middle of the day. I mean, I can but prefer not to. There are nice to me as it is since I work only 7 hours a day instead of 9. The gyn claims I am simply ovulating late (he did a sonogram) but didn;t give me any tests to do. I guess time will tell. See you all on July 11th. We are going on vacation from Sun-Thurs. Trish July 1st, 2005, 12:00 PM It's dead around here today :dead: most people took the day off for a 4 day weekend, so I'm sure my afternoon will be spend surfing the net  Shanna July 1st, 2005, 12:42 PM I' m busy recuping the time I spent yesterday on other things  Brooke July 1st, 2005, 01:15 PM Alicia - sorry about the daycare issues. But the new place sounds really great. It will all work out. Lisa - sorry about the job:( Good luck next week, though! Nothing going on with me. Just the same old stuff. Alysia July 1st, 2005, 01:57 PM Happy Friday everyone!! I am trying really hard not to do much today! We get free lunch today so I am excited! bunkie68 July 1st, 2005, 02:46 PM Thanks, Brooke! :) Nadine, that's not a very helpful answer your doc gave, is it? I hope you have a wonderful vacation - I'm jealous. We're closing at 3:00 today, so just an hour and 15 minutes to go. Yeah, like I'm getting any work done right now. Alysia July 1st, 2005, 03:02 PM Lucky you Lisa! I am supposed to be here till 5 today. But, I am already planning to leave at 430 if not earlier bunkie68 July 1st, 2005, 03:42 PM Alysia, I'm taking the two hours off and saying thanks! :bolt: Only 20 minutes left - I'm such a big waste of space at this point, I might as well already be on my way home. Gotta run by the post office and mail some packages, and then I'll start enjoying some quiet time while Julian is with Kevin. :) Trish July 1st, 2005, 04:00 PM Only 30 more minutes for me! :woo: Alysia July 1st, 2005, 05:12 PM :tongue2: I still have 2 hours and 15 minutes Shanna July 1st, 2005, 05:44 PM OMG, today has been the day from H-E-double hockey sticks  I had to draft and write (yes, WRITE) an ordinance today :jawdrop: But, I was pretty impressed with myself, it only had a few changes made to it :aok: Anywayz.... My brain is frazzled. John is off work today so he is going to get the kids from daycare so taht I can go to the doctor and have my shoulder looked at... its been bothering me REALLLLLLLY bad since yesterday. I'm not sure what I did to it :dunno: bunybomb July 3rd, 2005, 11:54 PM Hmmm, notice how slow it is around here on the weekends? Silke July 4th, 2005, 10:35 AM Isn't that good? bunkie68 July 5th, 2005, 10:48 AM AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! :tearhair: It so feels like Monday today. When Julian woke up this morning, he said, "It's not time to go to school, Mama. School is closed. Let's go back to bed!" Oh, how I would have loved to do that. I'm totally slammed this morning. AACK. Silke July 5th, 2005, 10:58 AM He's got the right attitude, Lisa. ;) How was everybody's holiday? Nocona July 5th, 2005, 11:24 AM Yes, Lisa, they came out and fixed within an hour of me calling :faint: It was clogged with pollen! I didn't even know that was possible. We had a pretty good holiday. We had a little BBQ with some friends and then sent the boys off to watch fireworks. Darcy July 5th, 2005, 11:38 AM Nocona, glad the a/c was fixed. Lisa, sorry you didn't get the job, but I think Julian had a great idea. :) The long weekend was nice. I took Friday off but sent Riley to daycare so I could tackle some of our moving boxes. :dead: We had a good weekend overall. Sunday we took her to the pool, and she had a blast. Phil stayed to watch the fireworks, but I took Riley home. I'm surprised she didn't wake with all the neighbors lighting fireworks off. But she's been extra whiny since she's getting her last set of eye teeth in. :( I feel so burned out from work, though. I should be getting a call this week for an interview with a newspaper, thanks in part to my FIL (but don't tell him I'm thanking him for something!), so keep your fingers crossed. I'm so ready for a change. bunkie68 July 5th, 2005, 12:08 PM Nocona, I didn't know that was possible, either! :dunno: Glad they got it fixed so quickly, and that it was something relatively simple. Darcy, good luck with the interview! :crossfing I thought Julian had the right idea, too. Not much exciting for the 4th here - Julian slept through our neighbors' barrage of fireworks (Sunday AND Monday nights  ), and I was thankful. Other than that, just hanging out around the house - I didn't even cook anything special. JennyB July 5th, 2005, 12:50 PM I hate coming back after long weekends. The 4th was good. We went to the inlaws for a cookout. To make a long story short, my inlaws ended up driving Emma and I back to our house about 9:30 last night. My MIL just got a new convertible so we rode with the top down the whole way home. I thought the wind might bother Emma but she thought it was great. I put her sunglasses on her to help with the wind in her eyes and she got to see fireworks going off everywhere. She looked pretty cool in a convertible wearing sunglasses. hahaha Alysia July 5th, 2005, 02:00 PM They were talking on the radio this morning that they should make the 5th a holiday too. Why should anyone expect us to come to work after staying up all night for fireworks? Especially when it doesnt even get dark enough for fireworks until 945 here. schwanda July 5th, 2005, 07:44 PM I totally agree! I had to miss the fireworks in NY to drive back to Baltimore. Then, the fireworks in Baltimore were right near where I live so it woke Nathaniel up. Oh joy! I'm just starting my new job and entering the fabulous world of single-parenthood (at least during the week). My husband and I survived the 1st week apart and Nathaniel finally seems to be adjusting to the Baltimore home. He was sure happy to be back in NY over the weekend (he missed his daddy and his dog!). I'm currently searching for a pediatrician for Nathaniel (preferably one with Saturday hours!). I don't really have a handle on my new job yet. I'm going to be in the research lab all year. Thankfully, the lab supervisor is just coming back from maternity leave (next week!) so she's VERY understanding about childcare things! I also have to decide when to tell people at work about the impending twins. I want to wait AT LEAST a month from the time I started (that would be early August). Amanda bunkie68 July 6th, 2005, 11:00 AM God has some twisted sense of humor - Julian was up until 10:30 last night, woke up at 5:07, stayed awake until 6:15, and then was up for the day at 6:40. :faint: So much for having any kind of leisurely, calm start to my day (today, of all days!). And I'm just overwhelmed at work. YUCK!!! Silke July 6th, 2005, 11:54 AM So how much sleep did you get, Lisa? How about a caffeine booster. I managed to stay alive with...oh I don't even know how many cups of coffee I had. And to answer my onw question from yesterday. We did allow the kids to stay up and watch the fireworks. Of course, we didn't get home until 10:30pm. schwanda July 6th, 2005, 12:50 PM We had a rough night, too. Nathaniel was up and down until 12:30am and then woke up at 6am for the day. I am definitely dragging today! Amanda bunybomb July 6th, 2005, 01:47 PM I'm so busy, I can't see straight. I had to take a break and hop on here. We had a great 4th. Long weekend at home mostly. We went to a BBQ at a friends on Sat. On Sunday, we stayed home most of the day and on Monday we BBQ'd with the neighbors in our cul-de-sac and our kids played. It was great fun. We did our own fireworks. A neighbor went to Wyoming and brought back fireworks so we had a great show! AGGGHHH, now back to work. bunkie68 July 6th, 2005, 02:11 PM So how much sleep did you get, Lisa? How about a caffeine booster. I went to bed around midnight, have been awake since 5:07, so I think I got - oh, maybe 5 hours of sleep. :dead: :coffee: I've already had the caffeine boost - a peppermint mocha with an extra shot of espresso on the way to work (thank God for drive-through Starbucks! ) and I don't know how many glasses of iced tea at lunch. I *might* make it until 5:00.... Shanna July 6th, 2005, 02:27 PM ,..............someone motivate me.....................................:dead: Darcy July 6th, 2005, 02:37 PM .....and then send it over to me..... (on second thought, I kinda like not working. Too bad I can't be at home not working...) bunkie68 July 6th, 2005, 02:42 PM I kinda like not working. I kinda like not working, too. Except it sucks not working and knowing there are things that *have* to have my attention. :dead: Then that just makes me stressed. Alysia July 6th, 2005, 02:45 PM (on second thought, I kinda like not working. Too bad I can't be at home not working...) My thoughts exactly! :lol2: Silke July 6th, 2005, 03:10 PM Espresso....now you are talking. Is it Friday yet? bunkie68 July 7th, 2005, 09:40 AM Am I ever going to have a post here that isn't whiny? Today sucked absolute ass. Julian did sleep all night, but woke up saying, "It's not time to go to school!" When we got there, he stood in the middle of the car (where it's a real challenge for me to reach him), stuck his bottom lip out, and said, "I wanna go home. I wanna go to work with you, mama." :blue: And of course, when I actually got ready to leave, he screamed. It stinks to start your day with the sound of your child howling, "Mamaaaaaaaa!" ringing in your ears. :bawl: On top of that, I'm PMS-ing, I'm coming to a job that doesn't pay me enough to make me feel like it's worth the heartache (although I can't do without the paycheck, that's for sure), I have unpleasant things to do at work today.... I got in the car and cried halfway to work. And now I'm supposed to act like I care about the things I'm presenting to committee this morning. Right now, I just don't. My home life is too much - bedtime is a struggle, daycare drop-off is a struggle - and then I get to come to work. Sometimes it feels like there isn't a single part of my day that's actually *good*. :help2: I'm off to wallow in my little pity pit now and make some halfhearted attempt to get work done. :mope: Shanna July 7th, 2005, 09:42 AM :bighug: SOrry you're having a rough day :hug99: Does it help to know that tomorrow is Friday? bunkie68 July 7th, 2005, 11:18 AM Thanks, Shanna. :hug99: It helps a little bit. At least then I'll only have bedtime battles and power struggles with a little boy to deal with. :) I just wish I had some option other than full-time work, and right now I don't. Not that I think I'd ever decide to stay home full-time - I'm too used to having my own financial resources to let myself be completely dependent on a man, and if I wasn't used to working and didn't have a degree and had relied on Kevin for the family income, I'd have been in a big ol' world of hurt when he said he wanted out. But I'd like to have the option to maybe work part-time, or to telecommute, or even to take a job just because it sounds interesting and not because I think it offers the best pay or benefits. And none of those options will be available to me anytime soon, if ever. I'm just in a funk today. I need chocolate - Wellbutrin alone just isn't cutting it! Alysia July 7th, 2005, 11:20 AM I am sorry, Lisa!! :hug99: I am lucky in that my ILs watch G 3 days a week. And the problem I have is she doesn't want to come HOME!! She cries everyday when I pick her up and tries to hide behind her Grandpa's legs!!! Still frustrating all the same. Not the way I want to start out AFTER work, if you know what I mean! Mmm go get a Mint Mocha Chip Frap from Starbucks... it has chocolate AND Caffieine!!!! Shanna July 7th, 2005, 11:26 AM I'd love to be able to work part time from home  I wish I could sell on ebay professionally :blush1: Then I could stay home and not really have to ever even get dressed :locolaugh bunkie68 July 7th, 2005, 11:38 AM Mmm go get a Mint Mocha Chip Frap from Starbucks... it has chocolate AND Caffieine!!!! If it would quit RAINING, I would! We need the rain, but it makes me not real inclined to walk across the street to Starbucks. Alysia, I know that hurts, too. There have been days (not recently, but there have been) where Julian didn't want to leave, he was having so much fun. And there have been times (recently) when he'll start in in the car on the way home - "I want to go to school." When I tell him school's closed and it's time to go home, I get, "School's not closed, I wanna go to school right now, I don't wanna go hoooooooome!" Yeah, that does your heart good when you've just rushed home from work to pick up your baby.  That's when I tell him, hey, right now your choices are mama or mama, deal with it. Shanna, wouldn't that be great? A job where you'd never even have to put a bra on unless you wanted to. Shanna July 7th, 2005, 11:40 AM Oh *LORD* But hey, I didn't wear a bra all weekend :blush1: I would *LOVE* to not have to wear a bra to work :pant: Brooke July 7th, 2005, 12:06 PM Darren's with Rebekah at Chuck E Cheese. She sounded so excited to be there. They just COULDN'T wait until I got home from work to go. :( I really don't want to be here now. Shanna July 7th, 2005, 12:06 PM Man... even though this is a short week (and my boss is going to be gone tomorrow  ) it can't drag by much slower :banghead: Trish July 7th, 2005, 01:06 PM Sorry your having a bad day Lisa :( I bet the rain doesn't help any. Darcy - Any word on your potential new job? Would this job be closer to home for you? Brooke - Aww, I'd be sad, too :( Sorry. Shanna - Not wearing a bra to work would be great  I'm leaving at 2pm today, because we are going to get family pics taken today. I'm not sure which is worse being at work or trying to get my kids to sit still and smile at the same time  Shanna July 7th, 2005, 01:11 PM i could get away with not wearing a bra tooo... if it weren't so FREAKING FREEZING in here  Alysia July 7th, 2005, 01:13 PM I wish I could find something working from home too. I did see something recently but the paycut I would have to take is too much for us to handle right now. Darcy July 7th, 2005, 01:13 PM Trish--good luck with the family picture. We haven't had one taken yet, but we've talked about getting it done. Hope it goes well. This no-bra talk makes me laugh. A coworker (J) mentioned to another one (N) last week that she forgot to put on a bra at work. So my friend N said she could never do that (she has a 17 month old), and J said, "You couldn't because your bbs are too big." OMG what do you say to that?! N just shrugged it off. She and I were both like how could you forget a bra? Anyway, no word on the job. I'm going to apply for another one today. The one I'm really interested in is about 5 miles from my house. The other one I'm applying for is about 20. Either one is better than the 40 miles away I work now. Shanna July 7th, 2005, 01:14 PM See, my only benefit of working here is a paycheck  I wouldn't be losing a 401K or insurance or anything like that  Alysia July 7th, 2005, 01:15 PM I carry the insurance for us right now and would like to keep it that way. B's is too expensive! Shanna July 7th, 2005, 01:20 PM John's company pays for our insurance, so we definitely don't want to lose that benefit  I could see myself forgetting to put on a bra. Trish July 7th, 2005, 01:23 PM I can't even imagine not remembering to put on a bra  The boys and I have our medical through me and we all have vision and dental through me, so we'd be losing alot if I didn't work here - darn it! Dacry - Good luck with the jobs! :aok: Shanna July 7th, 2005, 01:24 PM I just got a raise on Friday :rahrah: So... thats a bit more of an incentive to stay  Shaylee July 7th, 2005, 01:32 PM Hi, can I join? I'm Terri. I'm a working mom to a almost 20 month-old daughter. I would very much love a place to go to commiserate with people who get this whole working/motherhood thing! :) bunkie68 July 7th, 2005, 01:32 PM and J said, "You couldn't because your bbs are too big." I'd say, yeah, maybe I can't go without a bra, but I can hold up a strapless dress. Trish, good luck with the picture! Brooke, I'm sorry - that sucks. :hug99: Darcy, good luck with the job hunt! Shanna, I'm glad someone got a raise - I just found out before lunch that I *didn't* get one. Oh, goody. Shanna July 7th, 2005, 01:40 PM Hey Terri!! :wavey: I'm glad to see you back!! How's Courteney? Lisa :hug99: I'm sorry y ou didn't get your raise :( Shanna July 7th, 2005, 01:41 PM BTW, I couldn't hold up a strapless dress if I had to  Trish July 7th, 2005, 01:41 PM BTW, I couldn't hold up a strapless dress if I had to :lol:Neither could I  Welcome Terri! :wavey: Darcy July 7th, 2005, 01:41 PM :wavey: Hi Terri! Jump on in. :) Looks like our daughters are close in age. I'm sorry, Lisa. :hug99: Stupid work! Shanna July 7th, 2005, 01:59 PM Darcy - she was in our p/g group at UB  her daughter is Courteney :) Alysia July 7th, 2005, 02:01 PM :welcome: Terri! Darcy July 7th, 2005, 02:02 PM  Thanks, Shanna. UB seems like such a blur. I can barely remember what I did yesterday. Shanna July 7th, 2005, 02:10 PM  No problem :) bunkie68 July 7th, 2005, 02:40 PM BTW, I couldn't hold up a strapless dress if I had to  Not even with both hands? :lol2: (I'm ducking now, in case you're throwing things at the computer!) Welcome, Terri! :wavey: Jump on in, the more the merrier! And it's not terrible about the raise - I just didn't expect one, so that way it wasn't a crushing disappointment when I didn't get one. Is it time to go home yet?! JennyB July 7th, 2005, 02:42 PM I could forget a bra. I hate bras. I practically take it off with my shoes when I get home. No one would ever know. Shanna July 7th, 2005, 02:48 PM Well... I have pierced ... umm.. parts, so a bra is a major help in keeping those parts not so obvious  Alysia July 7th, 2005, 03:31 PM :lol2: Trish July 8th, 2005, 08:46 AM It's FRIDAY!!!! :yippee: Shanna July 8th, 2005, 09:32 AM :dancingpi  All hail the dancing fruit!! :dancingpi Silke July 8th, 2005, 09:44 AM Dancing...yeah....only 5 more hours....:dancingpi Alysia July 8th, 2005, 11:25 AM :bawl: Today was an absolute throw a fit at daycare day. She only goes twice a week and since they were closed on Monday this was her first day there this week. I think part of the problem is she DID NOT want to get up this morning! Plus she never gets to see her Daddy anymore since he works until 9 pm. He gets up every morning to get her dressed and ready to go while I am getting ready and the past two mornings she has not wanted to go with me to the car. She just cries and cries because she wants to stay with Daddy... This sucks!! bunkie68 July 8th, 2005, 11:37 AM Oh, Alysia, I feel your pain. :bighug: Julian is doing the same thing - every day is a meltdown day, and he starts saying "I want to go home" before we get halfway to school. :blue: I'm trying to pinpoint the cause of my issues, but it does sound like yours may be because she wants to stay with daddy. I wish I had some good advice, but the best I can do is hugs and a sympathetic ear. :hug99: Shanna July 8th, 2005, 11:48 AM Gee... I guess my kids just don't like me  They're more than happy to go to daycare  Of course, their aunt owns the place and the other 3 grandkids all go there, so I guess that helps :dunno: Alysia July 8th, 2005, 12:06 PM  I bet that does help, Shanna! She was fine in the car and she didn't even cry when we got to the daycare she didn't throw her fit until I said "Let's go put your sheet and blanket away.." Then she freaked OUT! So, I picked her up and said," You'll be fine.. Look you can go play with Kaitlyn.." But, she kept crying so I just gave her a kiss and put her down and started to leave... The teacher said, "Is she not in a good mood today?" I wasnt quite sure how to respond to that... So I just said "She didn't want to get up this morning" and left... Anyways, I think she will be fine after the afternoon teacher gets there.. she seems to be more attached to the afternoon girl than the morning one. Alysia July 8th, 2005, 12:07 PM PS thanks for listening to me ramble this morning ladies. i had to sit in the car for a few minutes before i drove to work because I wanted to cry. Alysia July 8th, 2005, 03:13 PM Man... I must have run everyone off this morning! bunkie68 July 8th, 2005, 03:46 PM Nah, I've just been busy. And on a Friday, too - no fair!!! JennyB July 8th, 2005, 03:48 PM I work from home on Fridays so I am doing two jobs! I would probably be less stressed if I just went into the office. Sorry you had a bad morning. :justahug: Alysia July 8th, 2005, 03:56 PM I have done a few things today but not much! bunkie68 July 8th, 2005, 04:42 PM I've actually had a pretty productive day. I haven't nearly caught up (I don't think that's possible with this job!), but at least I've gotten some things done. :) Alysia July 8th, 2005, 05:39 PM The only good thing about my day is that they just brought me some ice cream. Chocolate ice cream w/ bananas, whipped cream, and caramel sauce. :lick: I think it may be the rest of WW points for the month though! bunkie68 July 8th, 2005, 05:50 PM Hey, how'd you get that deal? :lick: Alysia July 8th, 2005, 05:55 PM It was planned earlier in the week.. they took our "orders" on Wednesday. It was for the whole department. bunkie68 July 11th, 2005, 10:08 AM Ugh, it is so Monday. :coffee: Julian fell asleep early last night (8:00) and slept until 7:00 this morning, so I got to go to bed early. And I'm still tired! Here at work, zero motivation - yep, sounds like a Monday to me. Lette July 11th, 2005, 10:28 AM I thought I'd pop in to give a Monday workday complaint as well. I guess all the stress from last week caught up with me. Sunday morning I came down with a nasty cold. Today I feel like crap and I've got body aches as well. :dead: This thing hit me like a freight train, whereas I usually feel a sore throat coming on for a few days. yeah, I feel motivated to work! gulp! July 11th, 2005, 10:42 AM I've been so busy at work I think this is the first time I've posted in here! Definitely Monday. I've got a screaming migraine which is not responding to Excedrin or to coffee. Maybe I'll just saw off the top of my head, instead. I was supposed to do several hours of work this weekend, but of course I didn't. So tonight will be a late night for me. :( Alysia July 11th, 2005, 11:57 AM Today actually started off pretty well. No screaming at daycare this morning. Just a "Bye Bye" with a wave and G blowing me kisses. :love3: Friday ended horribly though. Because of my new schedule at work and traffic, I was late picking her up at daycare! I was SOOOO mad! And I felt horrible because she was the last one there!! (And I was only 2 minutes late!!) But, they didn't charge me. I am assuming because it was my first time ever being late. Anyways, G is going to daycare EVERYDAY this week instead of her normal two because the ILs are out of town. I plan on leaving work 15 minutes early everyday this week so I don't end up being late by 2 minutes again!! Silke July 11th, 2005, 12:58 PM Ugh..I am definitely in the I-hate-Mondays mood. I couldn't find my keys at all this morning. Of course, DH was already gone with the spare key for my car. Oh, I know who took my keys....a little cute 2 year old. I was looking in toy boxes, in the couch, under the couch. Once you start looking in the dirty laundry hamper, one is quite desperate.:blush1: Well...somebody from work came and picked me up. I finally arrived at 10:30. What a nice start for the week. Guess what I'll be doing tonight? Darcy July 11th, 2005, 01:12 PM Man, I feel like Office Space where "do you have a case of the Mondays?" :dead: I couldn't find my shoes this morning, so I feel your pain. And I have no idea where I left the newspaper this morning (funny side note--I left one of the papers for Phil on his car thinking he'd see it and put it IN the car. As I drove down the block I saw it in the middle of the road. Of course by the time it registered that it was his paper, I had driven past it). And of course it's 60 degrees inside the office while it's a balmy 90 outside. It's gonna be a l...o...n...g week. I hope I get a call for an interview sometime this week. Alysia July 11th, 2005, 02:46 PM  Funny you should say that Darcy! One of my co-workers came by my desk this morning and said the same thing (Quote from Office Space). schwanda July 11th, 2005, 03:39 PM I'm having a Monday, too. I left my wallet at home. So much for stopping at the grocery store on my way home from work... Amanda Alysia July 11th, 2005, 03:41 PM Oh no, Amanda! That stinks! schwanda July 11th, 2005, 03:59 PM At least I found $10 in my bag so I was able to buy lunch (no grocery store = no food for lunch today!). The store is pretty close to home so it's more an annoyance than a real problem! Amanda bunkie68 July 11th, 2005, 04:01 PM Yeeargh!!!! :tearhair: Today is just insane. I have so many things to do, I can't focus on *one* and start. Is it 5:00 yet?! Alysia July 11th, 2005, 05:14 PM Lisa~ :hug99: I understand what you mean. I keep getting things thrown at me that *must be handled today* according to whoever brings it over... what about all the other stuff I am supposed to do, people?!?!?? GRR!! bunkie68 July 12th, 2005, 09:49 AM Someone shoot me now. Julian was up from 1:45 to 4:30 this morning. :dead: My alarm goes off at 5:15, so I saw no point in going to sleep for 45 minutes - I'd either get up and feel like crap, or sleep right through the alarm and be way late for work. So I've been up since 1:45. I have training from 10 to 12 (any bets on how long I sit there before I fall asleep?!), a team meeting at 2, and in between all that I'm supposed to find the time and energy to get some actual work done. I need a caffeine IV drip.... :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: Shanna July 12th, 2005, 09:56 AM :justahug: Man, that sucks, Lisa! Darcy July 12th, 2005, 09:57 AM Ugh, sorry to hear that Lisa. Hope the day flies by. :hug99: Alysia July 12th, 2005, 12:02 PM Yikes!! :bullhorn: JULIAN!! Let your Momma get some sleep tonight!! schwanda July 12th, 2005, 05:21 PM Julian and Nathaniel must have talked last night b/c we had a similar night in my home! I hope you get some sleep tonight Lisa! Amanda bunkie68 July 12th, 2005, 05:55 PM You too, Amanda! :bighug: I'm sorry our kids were on the same wavelength. If Julian keeps this up, he might not make it until school age. Oh, here's a funny - he drank so much milk last night that his stomach was tight as a little drum. Then he told me his stomach hurt. I said, well, you're too full, you don't need any more to drink or eat. His next sentence? "Mama, I want milk." :duh:  schwanda July 12th, 2005, 07:14 PM Ah kids! Nathaniel is so cranky this evening that I offered to sell him... Amanda bunkie68 July 12th, 2005, 10:12 PM Julian still took an hour and a half to go to sleep. :tearhair: I'm about at my wits' end with bedtime. If he didn't just fall out tonight after being up half the night last night, what does it take to get him to sleep fairly easily?! :banghead: It's like he just won't slow down long enough to realize that sleep would be a *good* thing. Oh well, at least it's only 9:00 and he's sleeping. Now, here's hoping he sleeps all night.... Alysia July 12th, 2005, 10:42 PM I hope he stays asleep for you, Lisa! :crossfing bunkie68 July 13th, 2005, 10:10 AM Nope. Up three times last night. :dead: He wasn't up for very long any of the three times, but that interruption in sleep is enough to wear me out. I keep thinking, two more nights until he spends the weekend with Kevin and I get to sleep.... Is that bad? So now I'm again at my desk with an attention span about as long as the life of your average fruit fly, and a ton of work to do. :dead: Coffee, anyone? :coffee: bunkie68 July 13th, 2005, 01:01 PM Wish me luck - I have to make a phone call this afternoon that has the potential to be ugly. :errr: I'm not looking forward to it, but it has to be done. Darcy July 13th, 2005, 04:36 PM How did the phone call go, Lisa? bunkie68 July 13th, 2005, 04:41 PM I haven't made it yet - I'm waiting on information from someone else on a topic the caller asked about specifically. I'd say I'd make the call without that information, but since this topic was mentioned specifically, I'd feel better having all the info at hand when I call. Dang it, I want to make the call today and get it over with! :jump: Shanna July 13th, 2005, 04:53 PM I'm good at ugly phone calls, want me to call? :lol2: bunkie68 July 13th, 2005, 05:09 PM Sure! I really, really dislike phone calls. Especially ones that could be ugly. But maybe I'm building it up too much, maybe it won't be as bad as I'm anticipating. Shanna July 13th, 2005, 05:20 PM Waht in the world is it about?! bunkie68 July 14th, 2005, 01:49 PM Phone call - made it, he was out, left a message. Julian woke up at 2:00 this morning with this horrible hacking, wheezing, choking cough. :blue: We had a breathing treatment and it helped a bit, but I'm about to take off to take him to see his pediatrician. This really sneaked up on us - no warning (i.e., runny nose, little cough) like we usually have with a sinus infection or viral infection. I'll update later. Gotta dash. :bolt: Shanna July 14th, 2005, 02:08 PM "Those who make the worst use of their time most complain about its shortness." Jean de la Bruyere ..... I found that funny to be my quote of teh day today :lol2: Shanna July 14th, 2005, 02:08 PM Hope Julian is better! Alysia July 14th, 2005, 02:10 PM Hope Julian is feeling better, Lisa! Darcy July 14th, 2005, 02:21 PM Lisa, I hope he feels better and that you both are able to get a good night's sleep. :hug99: Shanna, that's so funny! bunkie68 July 15th, 2005, 02:01 PM No good night's sleep last night, either. I thought he was going to sack out early, but then he got wound up with the big storm that blew through, and then again by the county crew that came out to clear away the tree that had fallen across our driveway and the road. Yeah, flashing yellow lights, a big truck, and chainsaws - what self-respecting boy would go to sleep with that in his front yard? He was up until 10:30 and woke up at 4:15 wanting to rock. :dead: So is everyone slammed today, or did everyone but me take Friday off? It's my late night, so I'll be here until 7:00. Blech. Shanna July 15th, 2005, 02:05 PM I'm here but I just got back from lunch  Alysia July 15th, 2005, 02:23 PM i have been slammed all week. :( bunkie68 July 15th, 2005, 07:03 PM Woo, it's my late night at work. It's thundering outside. I hope it's not pouring down for my drive home. Alysia July 15th, 2005, 09:29 PM i am going into work tomorrow for some OT bunkie68 July 16th, 2005, 12:47 AM Oh, drag - I'm sorry, Alysia! :hug99: Do you get paid overtime, or do you get comp time? Alysia July 16th, 2005, 11:43 PM I get paid OT. I ended up not going in though. Friday Brad told me he wanted me to go for the extra money and then this morning he decided he would rather I stay home and hang out with him! So wishy washy! bunkie68 July 20th, 2005, 12:21 PM Glad you didn't go in! How's everyone doing this week? I'm taking Friday off to get ready for Julian's party this weekend, and I can't wait. Between work stress, sleep hell, and Kevin's angst over his parents coming (this is their first visit since he told them he was moving out, and he's about to implode from worrying about it, and his worrying is making me stressed because he calls me and sounds all angsty and depressed on the phone, knowing there's nothing I can do to make it better - he just wants someone to share the misery, I guess), I'm ready for a whole damn sabbatical, not just a day off filled with party prep. But hey, I'll take what I can get! Shanna July 20th, 2005, 12:30 PM I'm here... feeling better today than I was yesterday, but still not great :dead: BTW, Lisa - I got the box of clothes - YOU ARE THE WOMAN!!! Our mailman left the box on the front porch and the mail in the mailbox and since I never come/go through the front door, I didn't see it until last night  Jacob is BEYOND thrilled!! He slept in the space PJ"s last night  He was all about it!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it all :) bunkie68 July 20th, 2005, 01:02 PM :woo: Glad the clothes made it, and that Jacob likes them! Julian loved the space pj's, too, back when he fit into them. I'm glad you're feeling better, too. :hug99: Shame on me, I didn't realize you were feeling bad. Shanna July 20th, 2005, 01:44 PM Nah, not your fault. I didn't post about it outside of my journal :) He had *SO* much fun counting all the clothes and the girls would grab a pair of pants and run off with them and he would chase them down and say, "No sissie!! MY PANTS!!!" and take them away :locolaugh It was hilarious  Alysia July 20th, 2005, 02:46 PM  Jacob is such a cutie! schwanda July 20th, 2005, 04:32 PM I got some good news today! I've been thinking about putting Nathaniel in daycare, at least part-time, before the twins come. I just think newborn twins and Nathaniel will be too much for my nanny AND I think it'll be good for him to be around kids his own age. I had heard the daycare associated with the hospital (it's a Bright Horizons which is supposed to be great and very education oreinted) has a long waitlist so I was worried. I sent in my application anyway. I spoke to them today and they said that they already have openings for the 2 year old room. She can't "guarantee" me a spot in January (when I'd like to start) but she says it looks really promising. Apparently the long wait-list is only for the infant room. I feel much better about things knowing that we have that option available! Amanda Darcy July 20th, 2005, 04:41 PM Shanna--Jacob is too funny. Amanda--That's great news! We love our Bright Horizons. Busy week for me here. DH is taking a mental health day tomorrow, which I don't blame him, but that means I have to take Riley to daycare. Since daycare is at his work, that bites for me. Adds another 45 minutes to my hour commute. :mope: bunkie68 July 20th, 2005, 05:14 PM Shanna, Jacob cracks me up! :lol2: Amanda, that's great news about the daycare! :yippee: Darcy, I feel your pain over the commute. If I had to add another 45 minutes onto mine, I'd pull my hair out. :hug99: AliMarie12 July 20th, 2005, 10:44 PM Just checking in . . . I am still alive, just trying to adjust to being a mom of 2. I can't imagine what it will be like when I go back to work. Alysia July 20th, 2005, 10:46 PM Welcome home, Alicia! I am sure it will be quite an adjustment at first but I think you will do just fine! bunkie68 July 25th, 2005, 09:52 AM Welcome back, Alicia! :wavey: Anyone else got a bad case of the I-don't-wannas? I SO did not want to come to work this morning. Julian's birthday party was this weekend, and I don't know if it's post-party letdown or what, but I'm really not mentally prepared to be here today. I toyed with the idea of taking a day off, but I just couldn't do it. So here I sit, faced with the prospect of 8 more long hours at work. :dead: bunybomb July 25th, 2005, 11:12 AM Anyone else got a bad case of the I-don't-wannas? So here I sit, faced with the prospect of 8 more long hours at work. :dead: Oh yes, the I-don't wannas are here in force today. My DH turned on the alarm last night before bed and it went off at midnight. We had a power outage over the weekend so the alarm didn't get reset. So I was up until around 2am trying to go back to sleep. Of course, he didn't wake up.....just continued to snore...... :coffee: What I wouldn't give to be sitting in Starbucks reading the paper instead of in my office. bunkie68 July 25th, 2005, 11:24 AM :coffee: What I wouldn't give to be sitting in Starbucks reading the paper instead of in my office. No kidding. Or better yet, at home in my bed, asleep! Brooke July 25th, 2005, 12:03 PM Oh, I could definitely go for a nap! We had a thunderstorm at 5am this morning. I had just gotten back to sleep after Darren's 4am alarm clock when the storm started. It kept me up until 6am. Plus, I painted the baby's room yesterday and I'm in major pain right now. Every muscle in my body aches. I was going to maybe go home early today but since I haven't accomplished ANYTHING this morning, I might as well go get some lunch and come back and try to do something this afternoon. Alysia July 25th, 2005, 12:05 PM I dont wanna be here. I have only been here for 30 minutes but it seems like a lifetime. (Its only 9 here) Darcy July 25th, 2005, 12:41 PM Yeah, I really don't want to be here today. :mope: Still nothing on the new job front. The job market sucks, especially since I'm in such a specific field. Oh well, guess I'll keep looking. Alysia July 25th, 2005, 01:18 PM Dont give up yet, Darcy! There has to be something better out there! I have decided to stop looking until I am done with school in a few weeks! AliMarie12 July 25th, 2005, 07:19 PM So I was home with both kids today for the first time, and work is easier than this, by a long shot  mama2jackson July 26th, 2005, 12:57 PM Hi everyone! I'm finally popping my head in here. I don't know if this topic has been covered in the past 200-or-some-odd posts, but here it goes...I'm thinking about starting to *seriously* potty train Jackson. Every time I think about it, it becomes more and more complicated in my brain. My biggest worry about doing this is the consistency of going to the potty at Jackson's school versus me asking him every 20 minutes at home. Not to mention he's at school more than he's at home. I mean, can I leave specific instructions for his teachers? They have 15 toddlers- not all of them are really ever there at the same time (2 teachers and even an aide since it's summer time). I'm afraid of sending Jackson in undies and then picking him up in diapers/pull-ups. He's also one of the oldest, so he doesn't have anyone older than him to get a little "peer pressure" from. Is any of this making sense? I know it can be a smoother transition for a mom who stays home, and that's what I'm worried about. I don't really want to be potty training for months and months until he "gets it". Any advice? bunybomb July 27th, 2005, 12:36 AM Tracey, I think Jackson is still a little young, unless he's shown interest in it. Wait until he's ready and it won't be months and months. Alex wanted to potty all the time right around 2 because other kids were PTing at daycare. I thought I had it made, however that was very short lived. We just started seriously on July 1st (at 33 months) when my DH was home from work for 5 days with an injury. We started with naked PTing and he did great. The first day back at daycare, Alex wore a pull-up and that did no good. The next day we did underwear and that made the difference. He told me that he didn't need diapers anymore so we took the Diaper Champ out to the trash and said goodbye . I even got rid of the diaper changing pad on his dresser. He was ready and it's going really well. He has one accident a day on average but hasn't the past few days. He's even doing well with pooping now. My daycare lady was happy to do it. And yes, you should leave specific instructions for daycare and they should be very willing to help. Good luck! mama2jackson July 27th, 2005, 11:27 AM Thanks for your input Becky! I don't think Jackson's quite ready, especially since Aiden moved up to the 3 year old room, that's when his interest stopped. He's NOT interested at all at home. I will just follow his lead and see how it goes! bunkie68 July 27th, 2005, 01:20 PM Tracey, I'm with Becky. Julian just turned three, and he's doing great with peeing in the potty. I despaired of it ever happening, and his daycare teacher was working with him and encouraging me to make more of a big deal of it at home. But he was completely uninterested in the potty at home, and he does best left to his own devices. I didn't push, and now he'll dash for the potty, get his stepstool, pull down his pants, and pee! :yippee: Poop may be another matter, but for now, he's making great progress. So I think you'd be right to just follow Jackson's lead. Good luck! :) Alysia July 27th, 2005, 01:24 PM I have no advice on PTing.. Is it Friday yet?? I am so ready for our weekend getaway! bunkie68 July 27th, 2005, 05:50 PM Is it 5:00 yet?! Today has been one of those days where I feel like I've been beaten with sticks. Pass the tequila and a straw, please.... :dead: Alysia July 27th, 2005, 06:09 PM Passing the tequila, Lisa! You should be on your way home now! Darcy July 27th, 2005, 06:37 PM Alysia, where are you going? Well, yesterday was eventful. Looks like I'm going to be a mom of 2. Of course I immediately thought about finances, daycare, will I get to quit, all the fun rational things to think about. Phil made me promise not to worry about it for another month and to let the excitement happen now. Alysia July 27th, 2005, 06:42 PM Darcy~ First of all, Congrats again!! :jump: And second.. we are going to Vancouver BC for the weekend for our anniversary (which is actually tomorrow) and G is staying with the ILs all weekend!! :yippee: Darcy July 27th, 2005, 06:49 PM Thanks. :) How exciting!! I think I did see you post in Eva's journal, if I remember correctly. (You just reminded me that I need to get Phil something since ours is in about 3 weeks!) What a wonderful getaway. I've never been to BC, but I love visiting Canada. Everything's on sale up there. Alysia July 27th, 2005, 07:30 PM The exchange rate is not as good as it used to be though! I have been to Victoria before but not Vancouver! The trip is our anniversary present to each other! (And yeah Eva has been giving me lotsa info on the area!) AliMarie12 July 27th, 2005, 08:40 PM Congrats Darcy!! bunkie68 July 28th, 2005, 12:33 AM Congrats, Darcy! :yippee: :hug99: Alysia, your trip sounds wonderful! :) I survived today, but tomorrow promises to be equally yucky. :nahnah: I'm having an astrology reading done on Saturday, by a woman recommended to me by a co-worker. Given all the insanity that's going on in my life, I'm very interested to see what she comes up with with just my name and birth date, place and time. :) Alysia July 28th, 2005, 12:47 AM Oh Lisa that sounds like fun! I have never done anything like that! bunkie68 July 28th, 2005, 03:36 PM It should be interesting! :) I'm pretty excited about it. I will, of course, share the pertinent details. Today is INSANE. I'm just now eating lunch, and I'm taking bites in between trying to do stuff. AACK. AahRee July 28th, 2005, 04:18 PM Alysia, butting in to say that you HAVE to go to the big park there. Eva will know what I'm talking about. It's beautiful and a great place to just stroll and people-watch. And - have a great time! And don't forget your birth certificate! They've really tightened up the border these days, and you need either a passport or both your license and birth certificate to get across. Alysia July 29th, 2005, 01:48 PM Anne~ "Butt away!" Our hotel is right next to the park so we will definitely be checking it out. And I have a passport so thats not an issue and I got B's birth certificate from his Mom earlier this week. Happy Friday to all my working mommas! I have a vent about my retarded supervisor... this is the conversation we had on Monday: Me: Would it be possible for me to work an earlier shift on this day? Either 730-4 or 8-430? My husband and I are going out of town on Friday night to Vancouver, BC for our anniversary and I would like to get an earlier start on the highway if possible! If not, its not a big deal but I thought it coudlnt hurt to ask! Supervisor: Yes, I think that would be fine. Conversation that we had this mroning at about 745: Sup: "Are you working an earlier shift this week?" Me: "No, just today" Sup: "Are you staying late?" Me: "No" Sup: "Are you leaving early?" Me: "I am leaving at 4." Sup: "Oh" I swear asking her stuff is pointless because she never remembers okaying stuff. She does stuff like that all the time. Like on our daily log sheets she will make big circles and ask why we were signed out to a meeting for 45 minutes when the meeting WAS WITH HER! Have I ever mentioned that I hate my job???? Well I guess I dont really hate my JOB... its more of a problem with the leadership here! bunkie68 July 29th, 2005, 01:50 PM Alysia, your supervisor sounds like a nut. Today seems a bit better than the rest of the week has been, so I'm thankful for that. :) I'm trying to organize my desk right now - it's a total pit. You know it's bad when one of your co-workers walks by, looks at your space and says, "You know, I couldn't work like that." Granted, he's ex-military and that probably makes him a tad more inclined to organization, but still...! Alysia July 29th, 2005, 01:55 PM That is putting it alot nicer than I would, Lisa! :lol2: bunkie68 August 2nd, 2005, 04:23 PM AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tearhair: This is one of those days where I have so much going on that it's hard to focus on anything long enough to get it finished. Is it Friday yet, and can I please win the lotto?! bunybomb August 2nd, 2005, 04:48 PM It's Friday Lisa! Tell your boss that I said you could leave now! :bolt: I just got word today that in a year, I have to move Alex to pre-school. I know it's a year away but still........ My daycare lady lost the bus stop in front of her house so now she can only take infants and toddlers up to 4. Her license has to change. I'm so bummed. She has an awesome preschool program. Alex was going to be able to stay there when he started kindergarten and would have been able to go for "track-off" time too, but now that won't be happening. I'm so bummed. I'm going to have to start looking now so I get an idea of how broke we are going to be. SH*T!!!!! I don't know what I'm going to do. bunkie68 August 2nd, 2005, 05:37 PM Ah, Becky, that sucks. :hug99: I hope you can find a good program for Alex that won't break the bank. And I'll tell my boss you said I could leave.... :supergrin schwanda August 3rd, 2005, 07:52 PM I had a bad mommy day! Nathaniel managed to dump hot tea on himself this morning (he's ok but was really upset at the time). To make matters worse he then only wanted my nanny to hold him. I felt so bad! Amanda Alysia August 3rd, 2005, 08:46 PM Awww! :hug99: for you Amanda!! I am sorry you had a rough mommy day! bunkie68 August 12th, 2005, 03:07 PM Hey, where'd everybody go? :) It's been a hellish week, made even more fun by the fact that Julian and I both have poison oak. :tearhair: His started on Saturday, went to the ER Sunday night/Monday morning, and he's much improved. Mine started on Tuesday and was absolutely unbearable Wednesday and yesterday. I went to the doctor today - they gave me a nice steroid shot and a prescription for some oral steroids, so hopefully I'll be on the mend soon! Alysia August 16th, 2005, 11:52 AM Hey Lisa... I am still kind of here... Just been working alot more than playing recently! schwanda August 16th, 2005, 04:12 PM I'm here (sometimes!). Trying to get work done (but not succeeding b/c I don't want to do it!). Amanda Darcy August 16th, 2005, 04:15 PM I'm still here, trying to finish up a project. :dead: bunybomb August 16th, 2005, 04:26 PM I'm here....that's all I can say. I don't want to be at work since it's slow. :boring: Alysia August 16th, 2005, 06:15 PM I have just had an insane amount of "problem children" lately at work. I dont know why they arent sharing the wealth with some of my co-workers!! I am so ready for the weekend! sunnyflower August 23rd, 2005, 07:56 PM Can I join in here? I am starting back to work this week with teacher training at my new district and then next week FT in the classroom. ~Kerrie bunybomb August 24th, 2005, 04:00 PM We all must be busy or sleeping at our desks! I go on vacation in 8 days and I'm afraid vacation brain has set in deeply. I'm only enjoying work these days because it gives me a break from my crazy toddler. I'm looking forward to down time with my kids when I don't have to rush out the door because I'm late for work. Lette August 24th, 2005, 04:01 PM :wavey: Kerri.. :welcome: Becky.. I am so jealous! Where are you going for vacation? :sunny: bunybomb August 24th, 2005, 05:00 PM Becky.. I am so jealous! Where are you going for vacation? :sunny: We are staying local in Colorado and going to two mountain spots. Westcliffe and Frasier. Lots of relaxing, hiking, kid friendly activities, eating and naps! Alysia August 24th, 2005, 05:29 PM Becky~ That sounds great! sunnyflower August 24th, 2005, 07:47 PM Sounds like fun! Thanks to firewalls I won't be able to post from work, but you will get my early AM gripes! ~Kerrie Alysia August 24th, 2005, 10:19 PM Aww that stinks, Kerrie! (the firewalls not the gripes... ) sunnyflower August 25th, 2005, 06:04 AM The joys of being in a school where the kids know more about computers than the teachers! We had kids who could break down the fire walls to get to where they wanted. So...personal email (home accounts) and message boards are all no no's! ~Kerrie Alysia August 25th, 2005, 03:06 PM  Darn little techies!! schwanda August 26th, 2005, 01:23 PM Kerrie - That sucks! I guess it's good that the kids are so smart since they'll be running things when we're old. Amanda sunnyflower August 26th, 2005, 07:42 PM They got onto one of those online dating services and found one of the teacher's bios. That teacher's turn ons were quite interesting!!!! ~Kerrie Alysia August 26th, 2005, 09:18 PM :jawdrop: :spitwater Alysia August 30th, 2005, 10:28 AM Can I just mention again how much my supervisor really annoys me? I am working 6-11 on Friday so I can pick my Dad up at the airport so I said I would come in early a few days the rest of the week to make up the 3 hours I would be missing. I get here this morning and she gives me the freakin 3rd degree. Sup: "What are you doing here so early?" Me: "I am doing my makeup time for Friday" Sup: "That needs to be preapproved" Me: "It was in the original email discussion about me working 6-11 on Friday" Sup: "Well, I need to know exactly what your working on... I can't just have people here early" :wtf: And I swear to you I am the only person in her unit that gets treated this way. schwanda August 30th, 2005, 10:39 AM What a jerk Alysia! Amanda Darcy August 30th, 2005, 10:42 AM I'm so sorry Alysia. What a pain! Lette August 30th, 2005, 10:53 AM :fryingpan What an IDIOT! Sorry Alysia! Bridget August 30th, 2005, 01:41 PM Hey all, I haven't posted in here yet... but since I'm sitting here at work goofing off, now seems like a good time to start! Alysia, sorry about your supervisor. What a dumbass. :complain: Our computers have been jacked for almost two weeks. First a squirrel got into the transformers and it the process of blowing itself into smithereens, also did a number on all our internal systems. Then a virus wiped out the printers. Then the power outage triggered this bizarre chain reaction of problems that are still plaguing us. So once you've clean your desk and/or organized files, there's a lot of standing around and chit chatting. Or for me, who can still access the internet, a little "surfin..." If we're still down at 2:30 I'm sending my staff home, but I'll still have to sit here and, I guess, spin around in my chair. Alysia August 30th, 2005, 02:15 PM Thanks for the sympathy, Ladies... I am so ready to be done with this place but I am really trying to stick it out through the end of the year. sunnyflower August 30th, 2005, 07:43 PM WHat a jerk!!! I can feel the pain of the down computer systems. Today they wanted to teach us the new attendance program to be used tomorrow and wouldn't you know it-doesn't work! ~Kerrie Shannan September 1st, 2005, 04:17 PM Where have I been...man oh man... Alysia September 1st, 2005, 04:35 PM hey Shannan!! Shannan September 1st, 2005, 04:56 PM :wavey: Alysia September 2nd, 2005, 10:36 AM My hubby just called to tell me that Genavieve through an absolute tantrum this morning when he dropped her off at daycare. I told him, "Great, thanks for making me feel bad!". He also told me they made him sign something to move her up from the Waddler room to the Toddler Room. :blue: I am kind of sad about that because she really loves the afternoon teacher in the Waddler Room; I didn't think they would move her up until January. And to top it off.... I was supposed to be at work by 6 this morning... had my alarm set for 4:45.... and it never went off!! I woke up at 5:53 and looked at the clock 4 times before I realized what was wrong. :coffee: Shannan September 2nd, 2005, 10:38 AM Don't feel bad... must be something in the air. I turned my alarm off thinking it was Saturday when in fact it was Friday. Aiden wouldn't let us leave him at daycare as he wanted to spend the day with us...so he had a meltdown. I swear it's going to be one of those days. sunnyflower September 4th, 2005, 07:55 PM Brenna has been screaming when I leave her at daycare. Breaks my heart since I have been literally running out the door when that starts! ~Kerrie Shannan September 6th, 2005, 08:52 AM Back to work...Monday on a Tuesday...ugh bunkie68 September 6th, 2005, 04:01 PM Alysia, I can't tell you how many times I've overslept, waking up as late as 7:05 when I'm supposed to be at work by 8:00. (And I've got to get J ready and make my minimum-40-minute commute, too!) That sucks. I can't focus today. I'm worn out, and I'm worried about helping family affected by Katrina. And I know I'll be going home to a really clingy, mama-focused little boy - Julian has wanted nothing but mama all weekend long, probably partially due to having family there and the change in his routine. He'd freak out and come looking for me if I so much as left the room to go pee, and if Kevin would try to get Julian to stay with him while I did something, Julian would say, "I don't like Daddy, I want MAMA!" Not that I don't love my son, but that constant neediness is just draining. :dead: I'm also worried about how I'll pay my bills given my current salary and the hideous price of gas. :blue: I need a better-paying job big-time. Alysia September 6th, 2005, 06:59 PM  I am with you on the bills etc, Lisa. I am going to start seriously looking for a new job this month to hopefully find something closer to home. I will probably take a paycut but I would save money in gas so I dont know. I am feeling better about the change in daycare. I think there will be more activity for Genavieve in the new room. I talked to the teacher in the new room Friday afternoon when I picked her up and they do art projects in this room. I also discovered the new room is a little bit cheaper per week and saving a few dollars a week never hurts! bunkie68 September 13th, 2005, 01:29 PM Alysia, I hope you can find something that's better for you. And hooray for a little savings on daycare costs - every little bit helps! :) The bad thing about where I am is that there aren't any jobs to speak of in my field that are close to home. If they'd have me back (and those bridges may be burned, I'm not sure), the DA's office is about the only place I could work that would be really close to home. And that would probably be at least a $10,000 pay cut unless I went back as a felony prosecutor (which I do not care to do). I wouldn't save enough in gas to make it financially feasible to do that, so I just need to find a job I can commute to that pays a lot more than what I make now. I just hope I can do that before I'm so broke that I'm living in a box under a bridge. :blue: AliMarie12 September 13th, 2005, 09:33 PM I am back to work, and actually happy about it  I haven't felt nearly as tired since I am so busy. Brooke September 15th, 2005, 02:39 PM Hi everyone. I haven't been here in awhile. I'm trying to actually do more work at work. I've pretty much decided that I'm going to look for a new job while I'm on maternity leave. It seems like a good time to look. I haven't told work. I won't tell them until I actually get a new job, just in case I have to come back here for awhile. We did some looking at our budget and figured out that I can take a pretty decent pay cut and we'll still be ok once our house refi goes through this month. So that's a huge load off my shoulders. I do have a vent, though. My mom asked my aunt (who works at Northrop Grumman) to see if there were any fire protection engineer positions available there. I have told my mom repeatedly that I do NOT want to be an engineer anymore. I don't like it, it's boring, it's too much pressure and stress, and I don't feel like I'm very good at it. I can't seem to retain any information that I should just know and I think it's because I just really hate the kind of work. But she doesn't get it. Why doesn't she understand that I don't want to do this anymore? It's not that hard to understand, is it? Maybe, after 8 years, I finally figured out that I don't LIKE being an engineer! But I guess she thinks that's the only thing I can do because that's what I went to school for? I don't know what she thinks but I'm getting tired of it all. bunkie68 September 15th, 2005, 02:49 PM Brooke, I'll bet that's exactly what your mom thinks - you went to school to be an engineer, so that's all you can do. Either that, or she thinks you went to all the time and effort and expense of getting that degree in that field, what a waste it would be not to use it. If I told my dad I wanted to get out of law, he'd blow a fuse thinking of all he'd paid to put me through law school. I hope you find a good job, close to home, that pays well and that doesn't make you bonkers. :hug99: Brooke September 15th, 2005, 02:52 PM Thanks, Lisa. The good thing about me paying back my own student loans is that my mom can't say anything about me not being an engineer anymore. bunkie68 September 16th, 2005, 06:29 PM Well, at least that. :) So go find something you enjoy - you deserve a job that doesn't stress you out. :hug99: It's my late night at work. I hate answering phones. No, I HATE answering phones. :puke: So I'll be here for another hour and a half. I'm praying that I don't get any calls! bunkie68 September 20th, 2005, 12:07 PM Wish me luck - I'm applying for a position in a different area where I work. My manager knows, so it's all clear on that front (that's one good thing about working here, if there's another area you're interested in, you're not discouraged from applying for any open positions). I know there are several people applying internally as well as externally, so competition may be fairly stiff. My biggest concern is that they'll think I'm overqualified for the position. That position is normally seen as a stepping stone to what I do now (I don't think it should be, but my opinion on that matters not), and they may find it curious that I'm going in the reverse direction. But a big, big part of the document is reviewing, interpreting and summarizing legal documents, and I am damned good at that - that's what I did for four years at my previous job. I've found several instances where document provisions were summarized incorrectly on the system, and I know anything I put in would be right. That's important to the people doing my job, because they rely on the information on the system, and if it's not right, that can really screw them up. So I think I'd be great at it. And as long as the pay is decent and it's work I enjoy, I don't care if they call me kitchen wench. We'll see how it goes - y'all keep your fingers crossed for me! :jump: bunkie68 September 20th, 2005, 12:36 PM :woo: I have an interview for that position tomorrow at 9:30! :yippee: Y'all wish me luck! Brooke September 20th, 2005, 12:48 PM Good luck, Lisa! I think you should explain to them why you don't see it as a step down. Since you've been in both positions, explain how important the new position is to you, how you've seen mistakes in the past (in your current position) and how you think you'd be a great asset to the firm in the new position. Lady E September 20th, 2005, 01:30 PM Good luck Lisa! I'm sure you'll be fine :) Shannan September 20th, 2005, 01:34 PM good luck Lisa AliMarie12 September 20th, 2005, 01:35 PM Good luck! Darcy September 20th, 2005, 01:39 PM Good luck, Lisa. Keep us posted. bunkie68 September 21st, 2005, 03:23 PM I had my interview this morning. It was supposed to be 30 minutes, we talked for 40, so maybe that's good. My biggest concern is that the hiring manager told me this was a very structured position, and that she was concerned I'd be bored with it, that it wouldn't be challenging enough. I said that my personality is such that I really do better with structure than the chaos of my current position (and everyone acknowledges that the position I currently hold is chaotic, not just for me but for all the others in the same job role). I know I'd do a kick-ass good job at it, but if they're worried that I'll be bored in the new position, that shoots a hole in my chances. Also, there are two groups on the team I'm trying to join - one core group of people who want to do nothing but what that team does, and another group of people who are basically taken on that team and trained for other roles (and the most common move they make is to doing what I'm doing now). If a spot opens up doing what I currently do, that pool is the first place higher-ups look for people to fill those openings. The hiring manager asked me if I'd still be interested knowing that in a short time I could possibly be sent back to my current position. I told her that I felt much better suited for what I was interviewing for, but that if I had to go back to where I am now, I could do that. (Biggest fear there: ending up on a different team than I'm currently on and getting a manager I might not like or teammates I might not like as much as the ones I have now.) There are other places to move to, not just what I currently do, but it depends on what openings are out there. I said I'd still be interested, though. If I do get the job, I just hope that doesn't come back to bite me in the butt later. Alysia September 21st, 2005, 03:28 PM Sounds like it went well! Sounds like there is lots to consider with it too! I hope it works out for the best, Lisa! Brooke September 22nd, 2005, 11:15 AM I hope it works out for you, Lisa. I hate that they say they think you'll be bored. IMO, it's not really their place to decide that. My company is driving me bonkers with all the FMLA crap. They have a handbook but no one really knows what's in it or what I have to do. I've been asking for a month and today they are just getting me the request form and they say I now need a note saying I'm pregnant. They also can't tell me for sure what time I have to use before the unpaid time. They change all the rules and then they can't even figure them out. How frustrating! Alysia September 22nd, 2005, 11:39 AM Ugh Brooke! I am sorry your having to deal with all that!! LISA October 2nd, 2005, 11:11 AM Well, I guess I should into myself here..I just got a job as a stock person at a local Zellers (http://www.hbc.com/zellers/) store,it's similar to Wallyworld  but it's Canadian owned.. I'll be working part time night shift (9:30-5 am  ) not sure how I'm going to do at that, I have experience being up all night with both girls being colicky  I know it never gets easy working nights though, Tony and my sister have been doing it for years and it's not something you can get used to, you just "do it".. I'm really only doing this to help Tony pay off some of our debt, now that Paige is in school full time I feel the need to contribute, for that one week that Paige was at school and I was home I was going insane with boredom!! and I was also starting to get depressed so it may not be a "profesional" degree job but it's a job non the less and so far I'm happy with it..ask me how I feel in a few months and I'm sure you'll get a different answer  Alysia October 2nd, 2005, 02:42 PM welcome to our group journal, Lisa!! LISA October 2nd, 2005, 03:11 PM Thanks Alysia :) Hannabanana October 2nd, 2005, 07:32 PM when do/did you start Lisa? LISA October 2nd, 2005, 08:12 PM My first shift is this friday night :) bunkie68 October 3rd, 2005, 03:50 PM Welcome, Lisa! :wavey: Good luck with the job. Brooke, what's going on with your work? Have they gotten their heads on straight and figured out what needs to be done? I sure hope you find something better soon. :hug99: Still no word on the position I interviewed for. :dunno: So I wait and go quietly (or not so quietly) insane trying to do my job. LISA October 5th, 2005, 08:47 AM Thanks Lisa http://66.179.206.112/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif I hope they call you soon, the waiting is the worst! http://66.179.206.112/forums/images/smilies/fingerscrossed.jpg: AliMarie12 October 5th, 2005, 09:09 AM Checking in again. If worked wasn't so busy, I could get here more often! Alysia October 5th, 2005, 06:04 PM Lisa~ I hope you hear something soon! bunkie68 October 7th, 2005, 06:03 PM Well, I didn't get that job. But my current position may be modified in such a way that it would decrease my stress level *considerably*. Another officer and I both handle accounts for the same state. He's really good with people stuff, and I'm really good with compliance/computer/regulatory stuff. We've joked, and told our manager, that we should be a tag team, with John doing the people stuff and me doing the computer/regulatory stuff. We'd always been told that that couldn't be done. Well, now we're going to try it! :yippee: My manager asked me to think about how I thought the work should be divided, how it would be split in an ideal world, and he's going to talk to John next week about it, see what he thinks. I am so excited!!! :jump: We're in a unique situation, I think we're the only officers where just two of us work on accounts from the same state, and our personalities and skill sets just happen to fall out along the lines where division of duties would work. Not sure how soon we'll start or how exactly the labor will be divided, but I'm just glad we're getting the chance to try it. I'm going to do my best to do an absolutely kick-ass job, both to hopefully benefit myself (in the form of possible raises and promotions because I'll be able to do a really good job), and to benefit others if this is something that works (it might open up an opportunity for other people to work more in the area where their talents lie rather than strictly doing everything on one book of accounts). Wow, this is the most excited I've been about my job in a long time! :) Alysia October 7th, 2005, 07:23 PM that is some good news, Lisa! I hope it works out! schwanda October 12th, 2005, 07:41 AM Great news Lisa! I'm glad things may improve for you at work. I was at a 4 day conference over the weekend. It was exhausting but fun. I made some really important connections which will certainly help me get a job when I'm done in Baltimore. Nathaniel stayed with my husband so I haven't seen him in almost a week. I can't wait to go home today and see him!!! Amanda bunkie68 October 12th, 2005, 10:35 AM Why am I here?! When I got here this morning, the ladies going up the elevator with me said people were being sent home. I wasn't quite sure whether they were serious or not. Then I got to my floor to find that there's been a water main break, and our building (that's right, the whole building) has no air conditioning and no water (and therefore, no use of the restrooms). Other people in the building are being sent home. But are we? Nooooooooo. Instead, we get an e-mail saying that it may be 3 or 4 hours or more before things are fixed, and that in the meantime we can use the restrooms on the 18th and 19th floors of a building two blocks away. Don't wait until the last minute to decide you need to go to the bathroom, huh?! I'm sorry, I just don't think my work is so vital that it requires me to stay here in less than ideal working conditions. I guess I should be thankful that this is happening in October and not in July - it would have been too hot to be bearable then. Two-day weekends just aren't cutting it sometimes. bunkie68 October 14th, 2005, 02:30 PM What do you mean sometimes, Darcy? Two-day weekends don't cut it ever. Alysia October 14th, 2005, 02:36 PM I am extremely glad its Friday even though I am working on Sunday! (Again!) Next week I am going to a class for work offsite Monday through Thursday so that will be nice to get away! bunkie68 October 17th, 2005, 12:32 PM I am ass-kickin' busy today, and probably will be all week. My partner is taking care of a bunch of proactive calls for both of our books, which means I'm handling all the other work on both books. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather do this than be making those phone calls. It's just a lot of work. Lisa, how's your job going? bunybomb October 17th, 2005, 01:28 PM Business is slow for me. UUGGHHH! Makes the days drag.......... How did it get to be Monday again already? C'mon Powerball, what I could do with $340 Million!! Lette October 17th, 2005, 01:36 PM How did it get to be Monday again already? C'mon Powerball, what I could do with $340 Million!! I hear ya on both accounts!! We here at work have had a group Powerball Pool going for the last two drawings. :1pound: Here's to dreamin of what I'd tell this place when I've won! :lol2: Darcy October 17th, 2005, 01:39 PM We don't have the Powerball here, but we have the Mega Millions. I would *love* to tell this company how I really feel when that time comes. Hope your numbers come in! :) bunybomb October 17th, 2005, 01:55 PM We here at work have had a group Powerball Pool going for the last two drawings. My team of 7 have been pooling for weeks. We actually won $18 this past drawing so that's got to mean something! No one has ever won it in Colorado..... Good luck Lette. Hope we share the wealth! bunkie68 October 17th, 2005, 05:03 PM Becky, we've got a group of seven here, too. We've been playing for months. We did win about $100 each once - we figure that's the warm-up for our big win. We have a good time visualizing how much our manager will freak when half his team hands in resignations at once! :lol2: bunybomb October 17th, 2005, 05:59 PM  We have a good time visualizing how much our manager will freak when half his team hands in resignations at once! :lol2: Our manager and director are in it with us too so I don't know what the hell the VP will do when we all leave. I think we can all share that $340M or at least I'm willing to try. Good luck Lisa. Cute costume btw (even though I can't stand that cartoon). I was wondering when you were going to join the fun! bunkie68 October 18th, 2005, 04:37 PM Becky, I'd be happy to share with y'all. :) RE: the costume. I always have a heck of a time coming up with ideas, but I won't miss out on the fun. :supergrin I always like seeing what creative ideas other people come up with. Hey wait, I may change mine...... bunkie68 October 18th, 2005, 04:41 PM OK, I think I like my new look better. :supergrin Hannabanana October 20th, 2005, 11:39 PM It's quiet in here ... everybody working or something? :lol2: Alysia October 20th, 2005, 11:56 PM i havent been at work this week. i have been offsite taking a class bunkie68 October 26th, 2005, 12:52 PM I'm up to my EYEBALLS in crap!!! I keep telling myself, you volunteered for this. And it's a lot of work now, but once a lot of it gets done, it won't have to be redone. So it will clean things up and make the workload easier in the long run. Our manager's wife went into labor last night, so he'll be out for the next three weeks. That will either make it easier for me to get work done, or harder - I haven't decided which yet. Alysia October 26th, 2005, 01:00 PM Hey Lisa! Yeah its been REALLY quiet in here!! Now that I am back from the class... I am studying to take some state insurance exams! :dead: bunkie68 October 27th, 2005, 06:07 PM WHEW!!!!! It's been a hella busy day - I am WIPED OUT. But at least I feel productive. The new job alignment may be stressful right now, but it's stuff that doesn't make me want to throw up, and in the long run all the work now will actually make things easier. So it's all for a good cause. schwanda October 27th, 2005, 10:07 PM I've been having computer problems at work this week AND I'm super busy! Amanda bunkie68 November 7th, 2005, 10:51 AM I'm just sick. This job - AARGH. :tearhair: You go along, trying to do your best, thinking you're doing OK. Then something slips through the cracks, there's a complaint, and you're in a world of hurt. I'm only human, I miss things sometimes, I don't need to be made to feel like a small child over it. :banghead: And naturally this happens right before my quarterly review. Complaints were a big issue last time, so I know it's going to be a topic of discussion. And I've done well since last time, with the exception of these last two. But I'm sure that won't matter so much, I'll just get a big lecture about staying on top of things and how I need to do better. And I'm sure this means no raise or bonus for me next year, either. This sucks. Maybe I'm just not cut out for this job. I feel like kicking something. schwanda November 9th, 2005, 09:28 PM I'm sorry Lisa. That just sucks!!! Amanda Alysia November 21st, 2005, 12:24 PM Lisa~ I hope things are going better for you at work. :hug99: Everyone going to be enjoying a short week this week? I only get Thursday off. Sucks since DH has both Thursday and Friday off. schwanda November 21st, 2005, 01:44 PM I'm lucky this year since I'm working in a research lab. I'm leaving mid-day on Wednesday and taking the rest of the week off. Next year I probably won't be so lucky! Amanda Shannan November 21st, 2005, 01:50 PM I'm back at work after 6 weeks...so I'm only working three days this week and a full week next week. |
