I am so desperatly wanting to start having children. Since I was little I have wanted to be a mom. I have baby fever very badly! :babysmile DH and I are very ready to start having children except for money and health insurance. I really want to be a SAHM, but not sure how feasible that is. I don't make much money and it would just cover daycare if even that, but DH doesn't get any kind of benefits from his work. I am our provider of benefits. Health insurance is kind of a necessity with pregnancy and children. In order to afford the extra price of buying our own health insurance I would have to be working. It just seems so unfair sometimes. I have always wanted children at a young age, the opposite of what most people seem to want. I really want to start having them already - I wanted to be done by like 25, but since I am already 23 that is obviously not going to happen. I just don't want to wait until I am almost 30 (no offense to anyone who does though, just not what I want for me) to start having children. Sometimes I feel like if we were to just jump into it, we would find a way to make it work moneywise. But children aren't something to just jump into and hope it works out. Does anyone else have any of these issues? Has anyone else dealt with anything similar? Was money or insurance even an issue for anyone else? How did you deal with it if it was? Just curious - soemtimes it seems like I am the only person with this issue! :help:

Money was an issue for us--we waited to TTC until we had paid off credit cards and stuff like that because we really wanted me to be a SAHM. Luckily for us, health insurance wasn't a problem and my husband has us all on his policy.

Good luck!

In order to afford the extra price of buying our own health insurance I would have to be working. Are you sure ? DH's work offers health insurance but we declined and have our own - it only costs $286.50 a month (Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield)! I guess it depends on your medical history...but you should call around and see if there is anything feasable.

I know just how you feel. Being a mom is all I've ever wanted to do. We will celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary this year and I think we will finally be able to manage!!! I know its tough to be patient but sometimes its for the best. For me, being able to have the extra money to be a SAHM and buy cute little clothes and toys for my babies is important. But you don't need to do all that. My parents had me while they were in college and I slept in a makeshift crib in a dorm room! I was loved and that's all that mattered!

I know that we buy our own health insurance, and we pay just over $300 a month, with a very high deductable (BC/BS). this does not cover maternity. maternity coverage is another $300 per month for us, and has to be added before you get pregnant. So, we don't want to add maternity until we are about to start TTC.

Anyway, i really want to TTC right now. We are older, and actually enver wanted children. That has changed in the last 6 months, but it means rearranging our life and goals a bit. We both retired young, but the idea of a child sort of gets us thinking that one of us should go back to work, or we should open up the storefront, which can't happen for a few months at the earliest. Frustrating.
