Hi, Everybody!

Just curious--where have all of you met other SAHMs that you hang out with? I ask because I have joined a Mom's Club, but most of the kids are 2-4 years old. It always feels a bit awkward because Sam is only 6 months, and all of the other kids are crawling, running, etc. while the Moms talk, but I have to hold and entertain Sam while I'm trying to chit-chat. I also think that the women (myself included!) tend to gravitate toward the women with kids about the same age, and since Sam is usually one of the youngest kids, I sometimes find myself alone in a crowd. Granted, this isn't always the case, and I've only been to a few activities, so it's probably pretty early for me to make too many judgements. During the Spring I had also been going to storytime at the library, but we missed several sessions because of doctor's appointments (Sam's and mine) and it was cancelled once during school vacation. I also found that many of the storytime moms were teachers on maternity leave, so they'll be going back to teaching in the Fall. Dh and I don't have family very close by (couple hours away for both sides of the family), and I have made one really good SAHM friend since we moved to the area, but I'd like to make a few more friends that I can call and get together with sometimes. Oh, and we can't afford gymboree or kindermusik, so that's really not plausible, either. Thanks for any experiences you'd like to share or suggestions--I really appreciate it!

I've met other moms at storytime, gymnastics and The Little Gym (when Alexia use to go there.) I know some of those things aren't an option for you, but have you maybe considered the mall....like if they have one of those child play areas....you may find a mother with another kid who's Sam's age. At Alexia's gymnastics there are lots of moms with another kid who's young like Angelina, and our older kids are out doing their thing with the gymnastics teacher. So while their older child is playing in the play area at the mall, you will most likely find a mom or two with another child who's young like Sam. :)

How about the park?

The best group Ive joined was on Meetup.com. We have about 35 moms in our group with kids of all ages. Some of the moms are getting pregnant again so that will bring more smaller babes in our group. One of my friends just found out shes pregnant and were TTC. We used to go to Mommy & Me but it was pretty much all of the same people. We did a few park trips but its too hot out now. Everywhere we find moms who dont know about the group. Maybe you can check meetup to see if theres a group in your area?

That is such a hard thing, I wish I had a magic answer. I have older kids even and it is so hard to meet people. Good luck!

There's a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group in your town. I love MOPS. I go to a group in Cheshire and it's been an awesome support for me! Go to www.mops.org and check it out! :)

Hi Vicky!

I have met moms through MOMS Club and MOPS in our area. For Moms Club, it's sort of a different group in the summer because older kids are around. Maybe it will be better for you when school starts again.

Have you checked with the hospitals? Some of the ones around here have parent groups. Our YMCA has infant/parent swim sessions too.

I have just become really outspoken at talking to other moms at the grocery, library, mall... if you strike up conversations with enough women, you're bound to find some friends! ;)

Thanks for all the great suggestions--definitely helps! Summer seems to be crazy busy with all kinds of visitors, but in the Fall maybe I'll give some of your ideas a go. Storytime will start up again then, too, so maybe I'll meet more new people that way. Thanks again!
