This coming Monday I have an interview at a local middle school for a social studies position. It has been 7 years since I have interviewed anywhere and not too sure what I should wear. I have a light gray pants suit (pants and jacket) which would be perfect, but it is long sleeved and I am afraid I would sweat right through it. I have some nice brown trouser style pants that I thought I could wear with a blouse-still dressy yet cooler. I also have a new skirt, but the top I bought to wear with it is sleeveless and I didn't think that was appropriate.
So my options are:
1. gray suit
2. pants and blouse
3. skirt and sleeveless sweater
Thanks!

Ok most schhols are laid back and if it is extremely hot go with the new skirt and sleeveless sweater, if it is a normal non muggy day go with the trouser/blouse combo. Good luck and keep us posted!

I'd probably go with the pants and blouse combination. While a school is a bit more informal, I think that the sleeveless top should be saved for after you get the job.

i would not wear sleeveless for an interview. normally i would say suit but i know schools in MA don't have a/c  so go with pants and shirt.

Thanks! I was leaning towards the pants and blouse. I was thinking a pink shirt that way if I really wanted to wear the skirt in the end I could wear the pink shirt with it. I am going out later today to get something so I'll post some pics and let you guys help me decide!!!

I vote pants and blouse too  Something in red (the experts say) is always good for interview :dunno:

Something in red (the experts say) is always good for interview :dunno:
Shanna's right - red suggest (good) aggression and power (I ALWAYS wore a red suit to interviews and I've been offered every job for which I have interviewed). Blue is also a VERY good choice for an interview as it suggests trust and competence. President Bush knows these things - you'll rarely (if ever) see him on TV without either a red or blue tie on.

Even though the schools are casual I would still go with the suit. Also, red is the best color for interviews.

Hmmm....interesting suggestions!! I didn't get out earlier, but maybe tonight. I do have a red sweater set that I could wear with the trousers.

I decided the skirt was too casual-floral print, much more appropriate for actually being in the classroom.
Here is the suit. Not sure how well the pic captures it though. The scarf is very pretty and ties in the front just above the first button.

The sweater looks hot to me. I'd wear the suit.

Actually, the sweater is lighter than the suit! Since it is a tank sweater with the cardigan over it I can wear just the tank when I drop Brenna off at my ILs and in the car and then throw the sweater on when I go into the school. I guess I could do the same with the suit too, although a shirt under that might not look right.

I'd say the suit.

I think for an interview it's better to be as conservative as possible. I'd vote for the suit.

I think the sweater set would look great! Pair it up with some black dress shoes belt, hair in a twist and simple jewlery and you'll have that classic elegant look! Either way your goig to look great! Good Luck with the interview!

I don't think you could go wrong with either the suit or the pants outfit. :)

Thanks! I actually borrowed a dress with a jacket from my MIL. Looked like a suit, but was much cooler considering it was 88 degrees plus humidity and no a/c in the school. Now I wait and see if I get a 2nd interview.

Thought I would give you all an update. I wasn't given a 2nd interview and I am sure it is because of my salary. I am up there in years as well as having a master's, so if the school didn't budget for it then I am out.

Thanks! I like where I work and I am thinking about moving back to the high school-better hours. I miss being home by 3 vs 4 o'clock!
