According to Babycenter, they classify a Toddler to be between one and 2 years of age. At 2, they are classified as a preschooler. I find that odd. Maybe I am in denial but I don't want Emma to be a preschooler in 2 months from now. I usually think of a preschooler as 3-4 when they are actually ready for preschool. When do you think they become a preschooler?

I don't really know. I don't really consider Ethan (who is 3) a toddler or a preschooler since he's not in preschool and way past the toddler stage. There needs to be an in-between category

DH and I also find it odd that our babycenter emails about Emily are titled "preschooler" when she just turned 2 in January. I count it at age 3 or older, whether the child is literally in preschool or not.

I feel that 4 is a preschooler, because most preschools let them go all week for half a day if we choose that route or can go 3 half days. No more pull ups, very few naps and an eagerness to go to school like big brother!

I would say age 4, I can't see referring to Lauren as a preschooler anytime before than nor will she go to preschool anytime before then!

I think of a "toddler" as being a 1-2 year old and a "preschooler" as being a 3-4 year old.

Same as Theresa...Julia is almost 2-1/2 and I am starting to see her as a preschooler. To me it has something to do with clear speech and cognitive ability and that's when the switch to preschooler happens (but to me it isn't when a child turns 2).

Now that I read this, I'd call Aidan a preschooler and Colin a toddler. But I'd calling them both toddlers b/c it's easier!

I agree. Amelia just turned two, and she is definitely still ALL toddler!

I said age 3 because I think that's when the first preschool room at G's daycare starts

Considering that Cameron started preschool at 3, then three year olds are preschoolers. I consider Alex a toddler.

School starts at age 4 here, so I think of a 3 year old as being a preschooler.

I think under 3 is a toddler since all toys and things for older kids and marked for ages 3 and up.
