We've somewhat recently moved into a newly built house, which we love. However, I have yet to decide on some kind of window treatment for the 4 windows on our main floor. I'm attaching the floor plan, so that you can see exactly where I'm talking.

Window 1 ~ Very front of house, large window (91"L).
Window 2 ~ This one may not be on the floor plan, but basically, it's in the same room as window 1, on the right hand side.
Window 3 ~ Technically not a window, these are patio doors that lead out to our back yard.
Window 4 ~ Along the same wall as window 3, this is another fairly large window (about 72"L), and is in our family room.

Both 3 & 4 get direct sun come 10/11am until about 2pm, so we need something to block the sun/light filtering (the tv is usually on for the girls, so with the sun coming in, it usually can't be seen...not a bad thing, but still; and the sun gets very hot now, so in the summer, it will be unbearable). The sun also hits window 2, but that's not a huge issue.

I love the look of the wood (or, more in our budget, faux wood) blinds, but we've been told that they would stack too low for window 3 to make it a good idea. I'd like something matching, or at least co-ordinating for 3 & 4. Window 1 could be curtains/drapes of some sort, but I don't sew, so making them isn't really an option. Faux wood alone for this window won't be cheap...easily $300 (and even then, we'd have to have 3 seperate blinds, because you can't get them that long, unless you go completely custom, and even then, they'd have to split it, and they'd just share one valance).

Also, what about window 2? Should it match window 1, or 3 and 4? Or, should they all be the same, as the house is fairly open (I can see window 4 from 1 & 2).

The rooms are all very casual...the 'living room' is basically the computer/play area, and the 'family room' is just that, tv/toys/hang out. We have small kids...they take over everything!

Any help is appreciated!

Our living room has southern exposure and man it is bright most of the day. We bought vertical blinds for the slider there. But they weren't enough shade in the summer - it gets so darn hot in there. So we actually had to buy an awning to go outside of the slider to keep the heat out. We love it!

I would defnitely do all the windows coordinating - but not neccessarily matchy-matchy, KWIM? We have 2" horizontal blinds everywhere in white and then vertical white blinds on the slider. It's kind of plain, but since they're 2" blinds, they are actually pretty nice/higher end looking. Not your standard metal blinds. They are vinyl.

We have two really large/wide windows and had to do two individual blinds side by side on each one. Covered by one valance. It looks pretty good to me.

You said your house is new construction. Are they still building homes in your neighborhood? My neighborhood has had new construction going on for the entire three + years we've lived here. It has been a serious problem with the blinds and construction dirt/dust. The blinds get coated and have to be cleaned every three months. It's very frustrating! Especially since they are white. Just something to consider if you like the windows open.

Here's the window where we had to add the awning (you can see it outside). This was at 10 am and it's already really bright!

Here you can see the wide window that has the two blinds put in side by side with only one valance.
