Yes, I know she is too young, but she has been begging for 6 months now, we told her as soon as she was potty trained and gave her a sticker chart and such and well...she completed her chart an hour ago so she gets to have them done this weekend.

So, where did you take your girls to get it done? How did they do? I'm so nervous...a couple weeks ago Karri posted about club libby lu somewhere and we found a local one and took Janelle to it and she loves it so much that I'm thinking of taking her there (and getting her a princess make over as well) but some people on GR said I should take her to an actual piercing place (you know, people who do tongue and navel piercines)...so what did you do?

ETA Club libbly lu is similar to claires, but for younger girls, and it's inside big department stores, it's owned by SAKS.

Jillian, I personally feel she's not too young at all. But maybe it's because both our girls got their ears pierced after their first set of vaccs (4 mos).

Anyway, fortunately their pediatrician pierces the ears! I was so thankful for that, so I didn't have to worry about a 'teeny bopper' whom I didn't know pierce their ears in the mall (and not knowing how many ears they ever pierced either). No offense to anyone at all...it's just my opinion and how I felt...I felt more comfortable with their Dr. doing it rather than anyone else. But if that's not an option for you, and if you feel comfortable having her getting it done at that place, then by all means go ahead! Maybe watch a couple times and see how they do it and if it makes you comfortable enough to have them do Janelle's ears, then go for it and have fun! :)

AYE! A piercing place? Why? I wouldnt think of taking my kid to one. Myself? Yes. My kid? No

We took Norah to a place in the mall (piercing pagoda, I think). I think Club Libby Lu would be perfect for someone janelle's age!! And how fun would the princess makeover be?! What a fun day for mom & daughter!!!

NO WAY would I take her to a piercing place! I wouldn't go there to get my own ears pierced. I'd go to one of the places in the mall. Piercing Pagoda is where I had my last one done (up high on my ear).

I don't think she's too young. Rebekah has just started asking for them again. And this time, when I said it would hurt, she actually said "oh, ok"! I'm going to have to look up this Club Libby Lu place.

We took Riley to Claires in the mall. I don't think Janelle is too young at all! (Riley was 7 months old!)

There's not one of those Club Libby Lu places anywhere in my state, so we'd have to go to a piercing place. What's wrong with it??? :dunno: It's not as though jewelry stores do it any more, so the only other option is Walmart's jewelry department. I'll go anywhere where they'll do both ears at once instead of one at a time. :aok:

I guess I just can't see taking my child into a place that pierces and tatoos all sorts of body parts. I personally am freaked out by the thought. I would think a 3-yr-old would be scared to death. None of the piercing/tatoo places around us look too inviting.

Almost all malls around us have piercing pagodas or Claire's boutiques. I had mine done in Annapolis Mall. I know that's kind of far for you but it's not Walmart.

I already considered this...but...umm, our ped actually laughed, he also won't perform circumcisions...it's a rather crunchy ped.

Ah, okay, we've got differing definitions here; I counted Claires and the like as piercing places. I didn't realize we were talking about the kind of place that does tongue piercings and the like. No way would I take anybody under the age of 16 there! But Claires and Piercing Pagoda and the like, I have no problem with.

Now see, my fear is just the opposite, I'm afraid that as soon as Janelle knows that eyebrow, nose, lip, etc rings are an option she'll start begging for those as well.

Anyway, the reasoning from the women on GR was that they use a needle instead of a gun which is more accurate and supposedly not as painful...

Ah, ok. That place though, seems really cute! I looked online cuz I never heard of it before...and what do ya know, there's some in NJ, but of course not in the malls I go to (they are 45 min. from me).

A gun is faster. I'd rather have faster.
I've never had an issue w/ accuracy and my ears are pierced several times. I cant see how a needle would be more accurate. Especially w/ a squirmy toddler when its not as quick as a gun.

I dont think its painful to have your ears pierced. I think blood draws (which Janelle is familiar with) are far more painful.

I never found ear piercing painful either, I've had my bottom holes pierced (or rather re-pierced...I always let them grow closed :blush) 4 times and my top holes twice...

I'm odd man out here, I would be perfectly fine with taking my child to a piercing place to get her ears pierced. Reason being, they are typically more sanitary than a Claire's type place. Have you ever read about piercing guns??? They're quit unsanitary, plus, you don't have to be licensed or trained to use one and the fact that they typically use non-sterile jewelry kinda bothers me. A needle piercing doesn't hurt any more than a gun but it is less traumatic in that there is no loud noise (not all guns make a loud noise, of course) but there is also a more calm atmosphere and more privacy. (I've got MANY piercings, so I actually have a fair amount of experience in this arena, for what its worth) My last two piercings were awesome! I talked to the piercer about his experience with doing children's ears and he said he would be more than happy to. The only drawback would be piercing with a small hoop rather than a stud. In my general experience, piercing studios are typically cleaner and more hygenic as well as more knowledgeable and willing to spend the time with the piercee rather than rushing through it to get to the next person. Just my $.02.

Well I can tell you that having my tongue pierced with a needle and piercing my own ears with a needle hurt FAR LESS than the piercing gun at Claires.

That being said.. I dont think Janelle is too young. Madison was 4 months old when we had hers done at Claires.

Maia's ears are already done (when she was very young), but she LOVES Club Libby Lu. Sometimes I try to stroll very quickly by that storefront because if she sees it, she begs to go in.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I'd bring Maia into a tattoo/piercing place. I might, if I had checked out the atmosphere there first.

FWIW, I had my tongue pierced with a needle, and I didn't even feel it. Honestly. Well, I felt it go through, but there was NO pain. It even surprised me.

i dont think you can compare other body patns to earlobes, though, because sensitivity is different in all different places. getting my navel pierced w/ a needle hurt like a mofo. getting my cartlige pierced w/ a gun once and w/ a needle another time hurt like a mofo both times. getting my lobes pierced (triple pierced) w/ a gun i dont even remember.

I've had my ears done by both gun (when I was little) and needle... I much prefer the needle

Stacey

You're right, Karri. I didn't mean to compare it that way. I don't think getting your lobes pierced really hurts at all, even with a gun. That's been my experience anyway.

I'm so surprised no one thought she was too young, I was positive would get a lot of negative comments for this thread! Thanks guys! Well, I called club libby lu, they will definitely have 2 free people to pierce both her ears at the same time on Saturday, so that's what we are doing!

Wow, talk about learning something new each day. Stacey, I never knew you had your tongue pierced. Cool! :) My sister has (well HAD) one too.

We got both our girls ears pierced at 5 weeks old. Right after their first vaccination. Our pediatrician recomends doing it as early as possible if you're going to do it at all.

We just got it done at the mall. It was really quick. They did a great job on them. I usually just keep the diamond studs in Isabella's ears. Lily will be 4 on Monday and she is just now to the point that she wants to change them a lot. To match her gymbo outfits of course.

See how no two pediatricians are the same  .... the soonest our pediatrician recommends is around 3-4 mos.

I hope you guys have fun, Jillian!
Norah had hers done when she was 5 months. My ped said it was ok for me to do it anytime after she was 3 months (though even if she has said to wait I wouldnt have  )

Jada had hers pierced at 5 months by the pedi. She recommended I wait to 6 months but I wanted them done by Xmas so she did it because I was going to take her to another dr. who would.

That Club Libby place looks cute, I never heard of them before. But I wouldn't take Jada to a body piercing/tatoo place .

This is a really interesting thread. Jillian, I don't think Janelle is too young. I plan on getting Ellie's done as soon as she shows interest. Let us know how it went! :)

That Club Libby Lu place looks really cool. One just opened in CT. I'll have to go check it out.

FWIW, I would never take my child to a piercing/tatoo place either. The only ones around here are kind of frightening. :errr:

We did it this morning, she didn't even cry, she gasped, they gave her a mirror she sad "wow Janelle's pretty" and that was it. She loves them and kept telling every stranger we passed that "Janelle got her ears pierceded today". She also got the princess makeover, which she loved as well, I'll post pictures later.

DH made this page for Janelle to look at herself, but it's most of the pictures. The last 3 are because she got her nails painted for the make-over and she wanted daddy to take pictures of them.

Jillian - That is so adorable!!!! Cute pics! There are a couple of those places in some malls around me (45 min.) and I'm thinking I'll do that for Alexia when she turns 4 (she's wanting a princess bday party anyway) so I'll treat her out for a princess makeover (minus the piercings, of cours) I think she'll love it!

Ohh, I should mention that she refused to get a princess makeover done in anything other than her princess night gown. It's so little...size 12m, but we can't find a bigger one now (she got it or her first birthday) and she won't give it up!

dawn... The makeover is $20 and it includes a pink little back pack bag and they get to pick out 5 things from the one shelf area...they have ponies, hair clips, jewlry, little makeup kits, etc, just cheap little girly girl stuff. Then for the makeover it's self they do eye shadow, lip gloss, nail polish, then they do their hair (for the princess one they are supposed to do it up in a bun, but Janelle's hair is too think/fine to stay) and give them a tiara and wand and put glitter (fairy dust) in their hair. You can also do one for $25 that is the same thing only they get to make a potion or something or one for $30 where you get all of that plus some other beauty products.
