Roger and I went on a cruise for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. I would love to go again and take Abby. Has anyone ever cruised with young kids before (on something other than the Disney line)? If so, what has it been like?
Additionally, when I looked into it before it looked like you almost had to pay full price for a young kid...is that really the case?

One of Matthew's friends is on a cruise right now with his parents. I'll ask them for some feedback when they get back and let you know.

I just checked a few weeks ago. YES that is true-- it's full price for a child. We're thinking about a cruise too.
The last travel rep I called said that if you have 3 people in one room, the 3rd person gets a reduced rate.

We have thought about taking a cruise with our kids. The one thing I'm not too keen on is the space. We took a cruise for our Honeymoon, and that was great, but I'm wonding if it might be too confining and crowded for young kids who like to roam and run. This is why we wanted to check out Club-Med vacations (as I posted in the other thread), thinking the activities might be better for kids. But I really don't know...

Yep, even a tiny baby is charged the third person/room rate. It sucks!

I just talked to Carnival yesterday and if the child is under 4 months old, you only pay port charges. (WTF, right?). Above 4 months old, it's full price!

We took my 5 year old nephew on a cruise with us last August and he had the best time. They have a club on the ship that has all sorts of activities for the kids. The counselors are usually elementary school teachers and that's what they do for their summer vacation. I would recommend it, Austin can't stop talking about another trip on the big boat.
The price is just like buying an airline ticket for a child as well...you'll have to pay full price, but it's well worth it.

I forgot to come back and post
She said it was hellish, but her DH had a great time  He hung out with his family while she controlled Andrew (he turned 2 in November). I'm not sure what kind of cruise they went on though. I think something like a Disney cruise would have cool kid activities too.

We were on a Celebrity Cruise and they catered to the whole family.
