Anybody been? If so, where did you say and what did you think of it?

I went to a company sales meeting there years ago (April 1996) just 2 months after Hurricane Opal ripped through

Let me try and find the details of where we stayed.

I LOVE DESTIN!!!! but haven't been there in 10 years or so. My college BF and I used to go there when there were no high-rise condos and we could get a $50/night room right on the beach. I hear it's really built-up over there now.

The beaches are so beautiful there!

I've been. It was beautiful, lovely beaches. The only thing I didn't like was that there weren't many choices for restaurants so we spent a lot of time driving to neighboring towns looking for restaurants. But that was 5 or 6 years ago so there might be more there now.

Bah.. I couldn't find my info. I did however find a diary of the immediate days following when I went to Key West.

From what I remember the beaches were beautiful and the water clear! One afternoon we had free time and got to go out on a sailing boat watching dolphins. It was great!

Can't say how the town was or restaurants.... I guess I'm forgetting a lot of things as I get old.

I LOVE Destin!!! That is our favorite place to go to the beach and chill. We haven't been able to get used to the Atlantic ocean beaches in south Georgia, so this is the closest I think to Atlanta. We plan on taking Jordan there a few times this summer, hopefully it will work out.
Normally we just stay wherever we can get a good rate, but we are thinking about renting a condo for a week this year.... Maybe????
Last year I went with 4 other girl friends for a girls weekend, and we stayed at the Hilton SanDestin. It was a great hotel for that, as it had shuttle service to the associated restaurants and bars. I can see it being a good hotel for families too as the rooms we stayed in also had 2 bunkbeds.

My father just sold 2 condos he owned in Destin! I only got the chance to go once last summer and I loved it. There are great restaurants, great stores, and of course that gorgeous beach! I don't remember where one of his condos was, but the one we stayed at was in Sandestin. www.sandestin.com

I have heard nothing but good things about Destin. But we usually go to Tampa/Clearwater.

Bumping this up....

We are considering a trip to Destin with our 17mo old daughter. We will likely be taking my parents motorhome and staying at an RV park.

Question: Is there anything else to do besides play on the beach? I don't want to keep our daughter in the sun too much...so just wondering what else there is to do....anything near by????

We went in May...we stayed at the Hilton Sandestin...very beautiful!!! There are some things to do around Destin but I am not sure exactly what in that we stayed mostly on the property. I do know that I saw a bunch of things during the times that we did go out though :)

There is a GREAT zoo, but it's not in Destin. It's in Gulf Breeze but it's not too far of a drive. Maybe 30-40 minutes at the most. And I seem to remember having a lot of shade. (But then again... it was cloudy that day. lol) Here's the website: http://www.the-zoo.com/

Also on Okaloosa Island (just a few miles from Destin) is the Gulfarium, which is cool. Here's the website for that: http://www.gulfarium.com/

I'm not sure how much a young toddler would get out of this (but then again, I don't have a young toddler...), but I've heard good things about this: http://www.ecscience.org/

We took Alex when she was 9 months old. We went to the Gulf Breezes Zoo. It was nice and very shady. They even have a train ride through the preserve area. Very Cool! We spent some time at Fud Puckers watching the alligators. Aren't we fun!? We also took a sunset dolphin cruise. Alex loved it!
