I couldn't think of a more delicate way to explain the situation! Nathaniel has started pooping in the bathtub. Not fun! Any advice on how to stop this???

Any advice on how to stop this??? Amanda TtownAnne May 14th, 2005, 07:44 PM Never experienced this myself, so take my thoughts with a big ol' grain of salt but - does Nate make a particular face before "doing the deed"? Before Caroline was potty trained she did the "bug-eyed poo face" so we knew when it was happening. If you can clue in to his signals, maybe you can whip him out of the tub when it starts happening? kim May 14th, 2005, 08:13 PM been there :dead: several times. and he only did it when i gave him a bath (it's normally marc's job) it was like the pool scene in caddyshack . 'everybody out'!! i didn't make a big deal of it and he stopped. (he's not potty trained) asta May 14th, 2005, 08:26 PM Is there a certain time of day that he tends to go? If so, maybe you could switch bathtime to a different time of day? dbradley May 14th, 2005, 11:53 PM No advice to offer, but this has happened with Ava twice. She FREAKS out--screaming "GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT!!!! THERE'S POOPOO!!!" I felt so badly for her! schwanda May 15th, 2005, 07:03 AM Thanks for the input. Our nanny usually bathes him after breakfast and before changing him into his day clothes. She told me on Thurs that he had pooped in the tub. I didn't think about it much b/c I'm sure it can happen. Last night I gave him a bath after dinner b/c he had spaghetti and meatballs and was a huge mess. Sure enough, poop! He had had several good poops already so I thought I was safe. It wasn't at his normal time but it was after eating. Maybe that's the key... It's only happened twice but the episodes were so close together that I'm worried this is becoming a pattern. Amanda Melissa May 15th, 2005, 12:24 PM Katie went through this too. There were a few baths in a row that she pooped in. All of a sudden I'd hear her say, "yucky." Sure enough, poop in the tub. I don't know what started it, or what stopped it. I have said to her many times though, no poopy in the tub. I have no idea if she understands that or what, but she doesn't do it much anymore. Alyssa May 15th, 2005, 12:28 PM I think Aidan might have done this and Colin certainly has...and Colin has no rhyme or reason to when he poops nor does he make any face or other indication it's coming. The first thing we knew was Aidan saying MOMMY! COLIN POOPED! as he was leaping out of the tub. Colin didn't care to admit it until after Aidan announced it. I sanitized the tub and toys, gave the kids a shower in the other tub and moved on. gulp! May 15th, 2005, 08:44 PM How timely! Krishan has just had his third consecutive poop in the tub, and it's really starting to freak out his older sister. He also gives no indication, and he had already pooped for the day, so I'm not sure why he is suddenly doing this. We're just going to soldier on and see if it stops- I don't know how you get a toddler this young to understand not to poop in the tub! MrsPeacefrog May 16th, 2005, 12:29 AM I always bath both my boys after dinner, and we have only ever had a popping episode once, unless this is Nathaniels routine to poop straight after meals then I wouldn't think thats the answer!.. maybe its just a coincidence its happened now twice, maybe he is teething and his poo is a little more abundant and looser? I wouldn't panic just yet, wait and see how you go over the next few baths. schwanda May 16th, 2005, 05:20 AM Thanks! I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this! I'm hoping it's just a passing fad and not a habit. My only strategy so far is to end his bath after a poop episode (he loves bathing and cries when we take him out). Amanda Trish May 16th, 2005, 08:25 AM Ugh, been there, done that  Aden did it once (maybe twice? ) and I know that Evan has done it once, too, so i'ts not out of the ordinary. I always bath my boys after dinne and they had usually already pooped once for the day, but I guess they needed to get something else out  Definitely not fun, but I think it's just something they do :dunno: Nocona May 16th, 2005, 12:11 PM Matthew did it MANY times when he was around 6-9 months :dead: . He eventually just stopped and hasn't done it since. |
