View Full Version : Handling Booboos
TtownAnne May 10th, 2005, 06:50 PM How do the kids handle treatment of booboos? Are they cooperative with things you want to do (Neosporin, wash it off, whatever), or fight you tooth and nail?
(I'm asking because I'm trying not to scream at Caroline while she's screaming at me - she fell and hit her chin on her playset, biting her tongue, and screams at the idea of taking a drink of water to wash out her mouth, won't let me put Neosporin and a bandaid on her chin [although keeps touching it herself and then crying because it hurts! :disbelief ] so I'm trying not to bite through my own tongue in frustration)
Brooke May 10th, 2005, 07:03 PM Ok, she screams and screams when I threaten to wash or put medicine on anything. But she INSISTS on bandaids. So I don't bother with washing it, usually, since it's not worth the fight. I sneak the neosporin onto the bandaid and then put it on the owie and she's ok with that, as long as she doesn't see me do it.
AahRee May 10th, 2005, 08:24 PM One good tip I got somewhere was to buy a (brand-new, really soft) RED washcloth. That way, they can put it on the boo-boo themselves, and they won't freak out as a white washcloth gets stained with blood, kwim? And what I do with Katie when she gets hurt is give her ice in that washcloth and let her put it on her owie herself. She MUCH prefers this, since she thinks I'm going to hurt her if I do it. (This is partly justified, because I once saw an owie on her and thought it was a splinter, and squeezed it... and it wasn't, it was an infected hair follicle, and it HURT. So now, she doesn't trust me to be gentle...)
Melissa May 10th, 2005, 08:27 PM Katie is pretty good, then again, if I think she needs an antibiotic and a band-aid, I will wrestle her to put it on. If its not that bad, I'll let it go.
Katie is pretty tough though. Most of the time she'll cry for less than a minute, unless its really bad, say booboo, I'll kiss it and we'll be done.
Dennis May 10th, 2005, 08:41 PM Joe's fine as long as he gets a bandaid.
Alyssa May 10th, 2005, 11:53 PM Aidan's also fine but the bandaid makes it nicer. :)
Karri May 11th, 2005, 08:17 AM Aidan is generally fine. He likes to pick out the new box of bandaids at the store, so he's excited when its time to use them.
kim May 11th, 2005, 08:25 AM tony won't tolerate bandaids for long. the boy is also a scab picker :dead: and has the facial scars to prove it.
Stacy May 11th, 2005, 08:31 AM Dylan just wants to go back to playing. If I try to check out his booboo, he freaks even more.
babygoats May 13th, 2005, 12:27 AM Regarding the neosporin (spelling?) - Matt and I have convinced Blade that you have to put it on owies because it is the glue that holds on the bandaids. Now he wont let you put a bandaid on without it.... LOL

Maia too. And she will find any little thing on her body that she thinks needs a band-aid.
Eleanor May 13th, 2005, 10:04 AM Isabelle insists on bandaids- even for little bumps that don't need them. I should have taken a picture last week when she was wearing two bandaids on her forehead...every one was asking what happened. Little bump against the edge of the table, which turned into a fashion statement.
Dawn May 17th, 2005, 06:49 AM Alexia's a trooper. We've seen her fall on concrete, bumped her head into things...rarely does she cry. She has an amazing tolerance for pain. Anyway, she has never ever fought us once. She doesn't mind anything we use to clean it or what we use to put on it. She also loves bandaids and loves to pick out the one she wants. Like others, she often will try to find boo-boos on her just to say she needs a bandaid.
On a side note, she is even so good at taking medicine. Even the yucky stuff (Robittusin I think), she HATES it and tells us it's yucky. Well, she will STILL continue to drink it and makes the most funniest faces. We took video of her just the other day and it was hysterical. She's drinking it and saying she don't like it, making funny faces, drinking it again. WHen she thought she was done, we told her she had a little bit more left. She drank it. She is so cooperative when it comes to boo-boos and medicine, etc. :)
