We have been unsucessful in teaching Tyrus how to blow his noes. Is this something we can teach? Will he just learn on his own?

Ack! The sniffing has just got to go!

Nope, not yet. She tries, but unfortunately she blows more 'in' than she does 'out' . I don't think she quite grasps the concept that we want the little boogies to go OUT of her nose, not back in. But ordinarily, her way of doing it herself (when I'm not teaching her) is to put the tissue in her nose w/ her finger under the tissue to try to get it out.
Oh, and Alexia turned 3 the end of March. :)

Joe does a pretty good job. I have no idea where he learned it or if he just figured it out on his own.

Same here. Sometimes Carter will blow, but it's not with enough force to do much. He also turned 3 at the end of March.

Aidan figured it out on his own, I think. I dont think you can teach it :dunno: But yeah, he doesnt have enough force to get the harder ones out, so he's still sticking his finger in there digging for them:rolleyes:

Caroline can blow, but without much effect. I think it just takes stronger lung muscles or something.

I heard that the way to teach the method is to ask them to pretend to blow out birthday candles; then ask them to do it again while putting your finger across their lips. It forces them to reroute the oxygen and realize what to do! :)

Lexie's been doing a decent job for a long time now. Even Benjamin at 19 months can blow his nose. Must be an inherited gene.

Madison does a decent job. She still 'blows in' but it gets stuff out.

Emily knew how to blow her nose when she was smaller but than somehow forgot so she's just picking it up again but Joshua does pretty well with it so far.

Jackson (18 months) will blow when I put a tissue up to his nose, but he would never get his own tissue and blow effectively...

Justin figured it out on his own; I've tried teaching Jada and she can't seem to get it :dunno:

All three of mine can blow their noses, albeit Jacob is MUCH better at it than the girls :)

Jayden is fine with it, I think they just "get" it, because he did suck back in for awhile. Good luck

Micayla does an okay job with it. Melayna hasn't gotten it yet though. :dunno:

Riley does pretty well with it. Sometimes she'll even pick up a Kleenex on her own to wipe her nose if it's runny.

Alex understands what I'm asking him to do but doesn't do it well. I'm just happy that he will wipe his nose when I tell him to.

NO! He sucks it in then the "boogers" go down the back of his throat and he ends up hacking up a lung! It's terrible.

The candle thing Anne mentioned is similar to how SIL taught her kids. She put the pacifier in her child's mouth, told her to blow and then pushed the pacifier back in to force the air to come out her nose. Of course, Mason never took a pacifier and I'm not going to give him one for that!!

Saxon can but not with enough force to get it all out.

Emily does an OK job. One night during story time she jumped down and said "need tissue", opened the bathroom door, brought a tissue back, blew her nose, then went to the trash...I was just floored! She was 2 in January. She'll usually also get a tissue when her nose is runny.
