View Full Version : More potty talk
AahRee April 25th, 2005, 05:31 PM I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I seriously don't know what to do. Katie is doing great with potty learning. She hasn't had an accident in several days now. BUT... whenever she goes poop, she does it on her little potty, and I seriously dry heave every time I have to dump it. I *almost* - and I mean, I was nanoseconds away from it - threw up this last time. I try so hard not to let her see that, because I want her to feel like using the potty is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing, but I don't know what to do!! Air freshener? A nose plug? Anyone with any great ideas would be very, very appreciated!
jstauffer April 25th, 2005, 05:35 PM Sounds like you'd better get her to use one of those seats that goes over the regular toilet seat so you don't have to deal with it.
Hilary April 25th, 2005, 06:10 PM Ugh! Madelynn only poops in the little potty! She pees in the big potty every time. It drives me crazy too, I just try to pull it out of there and not look at it. I put the little potty right next to the bathroom too and I'm always right there when she goes, because one time (you might not want to read this) Ava stuck her hand in it. :puke:
Bonnie April 26th, 2005, 03:16 PM Caroline uses her little potty for poop too even though she is now likes to use the big potty for pee w/o a potty ring... I have no suggestions as far as what to do for the gross out factor... Caroline makes me sit in there with her while she goes and read books, so I suppose I have gotten used to it. I think she is just way more comfortable sitting with her feet on the floor for poop, so she just prefers to use the little potty.
Hilary April 26th, 2005, 07:27 PM I think she is just way more comfortable sitting with her feet on the floor for poop, so she just prefers to use the little potty.
 I was going to say this too, but I must have forgotten to post it.
sheila April 26th, 2005, 07:59 PM Someone here suggested putting coffee filters in the bottom of the potty cup. That way when she poops, it comes out MUCH easier.
:dunno: I think because of the foot thing, we got a stepstool for Maggie to rest her feet on on the big potty and she likes it.
Hilary April 26th, 2005, 08:06 PM We got Madelynn a foot stool too, but I think she's afraid she's going to fall off too. When we went to visit my parents over Christmas she didn't poop for like 3 days until we got a little potty.
~Deborah~ April 27th, 2005, 09:36 AM I always dry heave too when cleaning Joshua after a poop:blush:.
jstauffer April 27th, 2005, 11:05 AM Ooh, the coffee filter idea is good!! I'm so going to use that when Sean starts potty training.
Lady E April 27th, 2005, 04:12 PM We tossed the potty a while ago and only use the seat inserts with a foot/step stool now and that works.
~Deborah~ April 27th, 2005, 04:15 PM :duh: Forgot to post that the potty never worked for us. We took it apart and use the bottom as a footstool and bought the cushy toilet seat that attaches now.
Bonnie April 27th, 2005, 04:24 PM Hmmm... coffee filters... I might have to try it, but I am predicting Caroline will say something about getting that thing out of the potty!
Karri April 27th, 2005, 04:37 PM
Or lay a flushable wipe in the bottom. It may be a bit more inconspicuous than a coffee filter and easier to explain to a toddler
Nocona April 27th, 2005, 04:57 PM Matthew sits on the big toilet and holds himself up. He puts his feet on a stool. It's still gross. I can't wait until he can wipe himself
redhairedgirl April 27th, 2005, 06:28 PM Anne, if it's the smell, something my Dad has told me the police will use when they find a decomposing body is they pack their noses with vick's vapor rub. Not to clean out their sinuses, but it evidently masks the scent REALLY well.
mcox April 27th, 2005, 06:38 PM Ok, since I'm a nurse and clean nasty ADULT poop in bedside toilets :dead: , let me tell you what I have learned. Put water in the potty before she has to poop. It really makes it ALOT easier to clean the poop out. :dead: It usually just comes right out without sticking. :dead: Sorry, TMI, I know, but it really does help. Also, learn to hold your breath really long. I think that should be a requirement for nurses before graduation. I'm amazed at how long I can actually hold my breath.
Thankfully, Olivia never liked her potty and just uses a seat on the toilet. But trust me, after cleaning ADULT messes all day, Olivia's mess isn't such a big deal. I would MUCH RATHER clean her up!!!!!
AahRee April 27th, 2005, 06:59 PM The poop actually comes right out of our potty, so that's not the problem - it's the smell. I'm going to have to try that Vicks trick. (I should have known about that in college when I took anatomy and had to go to cadaver lab... I had to drop the class because I couldn't stop dry heaving!) I think I might also look into one of those plug in air filter things.
On the subject of the potty... Katie was doing great, until today. Pee-pee accident at Toys R Us IN the bathroom! I was going and I kept asking her if she needed to go, and she kept saying no, and then she went in her pants! :complain: She must've been overtired, though, because she fell asleep in the car on the way home. I was just relieved I had a pull-up in the car to put her in and she didn't have to fall asleep in wet pants.
