My 22 month old seems to me to be having a bit of pain urinating. His last two diapers have had a very small amount of nasty wet poop -- likely diarrhea. (How the heck is that world spelled?) ANyway... He was grabbing his diaper which he never does, and grimacing a bit. I didn't smell the diaper, but at his prompting, changed him and noticed the ugly stuff. He also has a bit of rash, so I put the burts bees on there and gave him a clean diaper. He was good to go, off to play.

About 15 minutes later out of nowhere he started to cry, came over to me for a hug and tried to crawl on me, on the couch, presumably to get away from the pain in his diaper. He'd calm down, start to cry a bit more, then calm down, then grab his diaper. Not tantrum type crying, but a bit more than a whine.

I took a closer look at his penis and notice no redness, no inflamation. The only abnormal thing I see in the diaper area is the rash mentioned earlier. He's now off playing with his trains and seems ok again.

I'll continue to watch him and certainly if I see his penis look bad I'll go to the doctor. But I wanted to just ask in here and see if any other parents of boys have been through this, have any thoughts or suggestions, etc.

Thanks!

Jacob went through a very similar phase several months ago, he would say his "pee-pee hurt". I didn't notice anything wrong with him and he eventually quit saying it. He gets diaper rash VERY easily so I figured that was what was wrong with him. I mentioned it at his last doctor's visit and she checked him and everything was where it was supposed to be and he didn't wince in pain or anything during the examination. Sorry I couldn't be of more help :hug99:

The only thing that comes to my mind is the possibility of a UTI, because that's what it was when Sierra hurt when she peed. Do boys even get those? I don't know. Sorry I'm not more help.

I don't have a boy but what you are describing is EXACTLY what Julia did when she had diaper rashes. Julia's skin is ULTRAsensitive and I am a self-proclaimed expert on diaper rashes (after about 7 months straight of diaper rash, I earned it!). Several times I thought there was something really wrong with Julia because she'd be sitting and playing and start screaming out of no where. I finally pieced together that she was peeing in her diaper and it was hurting her diaper rash that bad.

Good luck!

Thanks all. Suzi, that could be it. Josiah NEVER gets diaper rash. So it could be that the pee hurts it a bit. I'm watching for a fever or other signs associated with a UTI and haven't seen them yet. YET.
