My DH sent me here to see if anyone here can give him some direction....
Take You Child To Work Day is next week and he's volunteered to do some portion of it where he's letting them create a power point presentation put to music. He wants to download some music ahead of time and allow them to pick from it. Problem is, neither of us really has a clue what 11-13 year olds are listening to these days.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? HELP!

I think it depends on the gender and child. My 13 yr old son listens to sum 41, Linkin Park, Coldplay (I love their new song!), Green Day, Blink 182, and the classics (acdc, u2, etc. :)

I would look at the top 10 lists. They list the top 10 downloads, top 10 rap, alternative, r&b. I see the lists in our Sunday paper, but I'm sure you can get it online. My 11 yr old neice likes more of the r&b/dance type music; Alicia keys, Usher, and girl music like Ashlee Simpson, Gwen stefani.

There is also the "NOW" series of cds. They come out every few months and have all the current hits in a variety of genres. I usually see them at the front of Sams or Tower.

That sounds like a cool project!

Alot of the kids I taught last year (12 and 13 year olds) were into 70s and 80s music. They would be singing Duran Duran songs during homeroom and I would just laugh. Maybe include things like that since the kids do know the songs. They were also into songs from Grease.
