If your child is in his or her room, in bed, and is supposed to be asleep but is talking or singing or whatever so you know they are awake, can you go to sleep?

I'm so exhausted and I really need to go to sleep. But Rebekah is in her room talking and singing, and occasionally calling for me. And I just can't let myself go to sleep until I know she's asleep. I just feel better for some reason. Not that I would or could sleep through her calling for me or crying because I can't. But I really just want to lay down and close my eyes but I can't let myself until she's asleep.

I am the same, no matter how exhausted I am I can not fall asleep till I know both my kids are sound asleep too. I feel much safter knowing that they are sleeping.

If Jeff is home and awake then I have no problem falling asleep if she's still awake but she goes to bed around 8pm so I haven't really run into that problem.

Now, for her naps, she's been refusing to nap lately and I usually like to take a nap when she does but I can't. I put her in her room and she'll play quietly so I can lay down but I can't fall asleep because I keep worrying that something will happen to her even though she's completely safe in her room.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I know this is going to sound horrible but yes I can go to sleep when either of them are still awake. I know she won't get out of bed and all the doors are locked. Eoin goes to sleep pretty quickly after being laid down. Sometimes Emma has a harder time going to sleep. However, if she knows that dh and I are in bed as well then she turns over and is asleep within minutes.

For naps, if she has a hard time falling asleep and I want to take a nap, I take her into bed with me and we both lay there and take a nap and cuddle. It is really nice.

We still do some co-sleeping around here. Dylan just turned 3. I can fall asleep before he does some afternoons. He is right beside me and I wake up if he tries to make a move off the bed.
At night DH puts him to bed.

no where near the same thing since we co-sleep, but Janelle stays up till 11 most nights, the earliest she goes to sleep is 10 and the latest around 2 am. When I was pregnant I would go to bed at like 7 or 8 and dh would stay up with her, then put her in bed, awake, when he would go to bed...but again, we co-sleep. Now when I am sick or when dh is sick we (whichever one needs the sleep) go to bed with caid (between 7 and 9pm) and then the other stays up with janelle.

I've never had that happen before; J&J are always in bed by 9 and go to sleep pretty quickly. I know saying is better than doing, so if I had to guess I think I'd be able to sleep as long as their noice wasn't disrupting me enough so that I couldn't sleep. They sleep with their door closed tight and can't open it so I know that they are safe. But I'm such a light sleeper I probably wouldn't be able to sleep since our rooms are next to theirs and with 2 of them, they are loud.

Yes! If my kids are in bed and lights are out, it doesn't matter if they are singing, talking, playing.....it's my turn to sleep.
