View Full Version : Sizes question & Buying ahead...
Tori Lynne March 23rd, 2005, 02:00 PM Abby is 17 months and has been wearing 18 month and 2T clothes and is around 25lbs. The 2T's are a bit big on her but I figure this way she has room to grow and less room to outgrow them KWIM?
So.. we live in Florida and so I feel pretty safe buying plenty of summer clothes in 2T. But I try to buy ahead for the winter. This year we are taking a trip to Colorado in late Sept. The problem is.... if I don't buy some winter clothes ahead now I will have nothing for our trip. They don't even start selling winter clothes here until around Nov/Dec and I don't know what size to buy.
Others have told me that thier kids growth spurts seemed to slow down around this age. So I'm thinking she could still be in 2T by the fall and most of the winter. Or do you think it is most likely she will be in a 3T? If you have an older kiddo what size were they in when they were around 2yrs? Abby's a pretty average size... she has pretty much stayed around the 75th percentile all of her life. Any idea on what sizes I should buy?
Jeni March 23rd, 2005, 02:06 PM Jayden stayed in 2T for a long time, but then jumped FAST after that, and is now in 4T! Good luck!
Hilary March 23rd, 2005, 02:15 PM Madelynn has been wearing 2T since she was 2. She wore 2T winter clothes last year and this year. She is really skinny for her age though. She is just now starting to fit into some 3's at 3 years 1 month.
Eleanor March 23rd, 2005, 02:32 PM Isabelle stayed true to size until she was around 2...then she shot up in height, and needed to wear a 3 in dresses (pants, we did either a 2 or 3, depending on whether it was an adjustable waist, or belted, because she's skinny). I think you'd be pretty safe sticking with 2's, unless they seem to be running small...
magoo March 23rd, 2005, 02:33 PM Anna is 26 months old. She wears 2T pants, and 3T shirts, but some of those are getting small on her.
gulp! March 23rd, 2005, 04:00 PM Emma is almost 3, but she's only about 26ish lbs. She's been in 2T since the summer/fall, and most of the stuff I'm buying her now is 3T, b/c I'm anticipating that by *this* summer/fall/winter, she'll be ready for it.
So I guess I would go with either larger sized 2T stuff (try for brands that run larger), or go for 3T. IMO, it's better for them to wear something that is slightly large than too small. I often just roll up the pants or sleeves if its too long.
Karri March 23rd, 2005, 04:05 PM One Aidan hit 2T, he stayed in that size for about a year. So I bought him 2T for christmas year right before he was turning 2, and he wore it all thru winter, spring, summer, fall, and this winter. he was outgrowing it by winter this year, but I didnt move him into 3T pants till winter, and I moved him into bigger shirts when I bought him warmer shirts in fall (though me moved straight from a 2T shirt to a 4 b/c of his torso).
He's always been 75% for height, 25% for weight......
Tori Lynne March 24th, 2005, 07:35 AM Thanks girls!! Big help. It sounds like I'm pretty safe to stick with 2T clothes through the winter here.
A lot of kids have seemed to have stayed in 2T clothes for a long stretch. I think Abby's growth spurts have certainly slowed down. We should be safe for a while!
Bonnie March 24th, 2005, 03:39 PM Caroline was HUGE when she turned 1... she was 27.5 pounds, don't remember the height then... I had her in 18-24 when she was about 15 months... mostly Gymboree and Baby Gap stuff. She will be 3 in June, and she only just hit 30 lbs. and is about 37 inches, and potty trained so no diaper which changes the fit... she can still wear a lot of 18-24 bottoms (they are capris on her), the 2T bottoms (she is more torso than legs) fit fine with lots of room to spare and she is just now outgrowing her 2T tops... Some of the cheaper brands like Target and Old Navy tops are smaller though, so if you shop there, 2T could be small earlier.
