I'll be taking the site down for a couple hours starting around 9pm on Saturday night. (2/19--tomorrow). I have an upgrade and a couple other mainenance issues to take care of. Hopefully, it will only take a little while, and OUAL will be back up before midnight EST.

 I will see what I can do.

Sorry that it is such short warning... there will be another outage next weekend at some point (we have to figure out exactly when, though)

we had so many little customizations, that when we did the upgrade, a few of our enhancements really stand out. thanks for making us aware of the birthday thing, I think sheila just turned it off, and we'll get it working properly as soon as pratical.

I am having problems w/ the home page. I can get into OUAL using my history (so I can get into a previously viewed/posted on page), but I cant get to the initial home page! Its blank!

i think we figured out what was causing the page load speed problem too. So until i find a better way to do it, there will be no more telling you how many post & threads since your last visit

Stagg, I'll take that tradeoff!

So I guess you noticed the speed increase since the upgrade. It was running smoothly and then sheila installed that hack, and the page load went to a crawl. Now that it's fast again, I might come and visit more often.:jester:

Does anybody else get the error message "An error occurred while attempting to log you out." when you are logging out?

It happens to me too, but I just ignore it. Now for a much more important question --

Why are you wanting to log out anyways??

Silke, unless you're using a shared computer and you're afraid someone will use your login, there's no need to log out.

I was more concerned about my work computer. I just have to clear my cookies now everytime.

did the upgrade do something to old posts ... Karri PM'd me about one of my recipies having *odd characters* ... when i checked ... it wasn't just my receipies ... and wasn't only on one thread ... here are some examples ...

CHOCOLATE ÉCLAIR CAKE
a 13” x 9” pan
½ to 1 cup Chopped Green Onions
½ to 1 cup Chopped Celery
figuring it didn’t matter

Oh no. I will have to look into that. I dont' think it was supposed to do anything to the old posts, but it appears that isn't the case. I will see if there is any documentation on this.

Sheila ... if it is any help ... from what i remember of my posts ... it seems like the things that *changed* were:

letters that had some sort of "accent" to them [ ] ... "quotation marks" ... my use of the three periods [...] between sentances or fragments ... and something prior to [some ... not all] fractions ...

I was really only poking a little fun, it wasn't a serious question. I was asking the question in a why would you every wish to leave this place sortof way, and in my own odd way I thought it was humerous because I rarely stop by. That's all

Anyways on to the real reason why I'm back again, and that is because I got the "There have been XX threads and YYY posts since your last visit!" back up, and this time we're obtaining that info much more efficiently.

That is exactly what it is, and is typically an issue when you copy and paste from a M$ Word document into the WYSIWYG, and your browser is rendering the text in a font different than the one originally used in the M$ Document. It's also possible that other users do not have the font installed on their system that would allow the character to be rendered correctly. The upgrade also may have modified CSS attributes, and now some text will not render the non-typeable characters correctly.

To prevent this from happening in the future copy and paste from plain text editors such as emacs, vi, notepad, etc.

thanks for the answer ... but now another question ... i do notice that i have to go back and re-edit my posts when i copy from Word [mainly a line spacing issue] ... but since all of my recipies are in Word ... if i copy and paste them into notepad and then copy and paste into a post here ... will that work?

Can you get it to work on the home page? It still says "There have been threads and posts since your last visit!" without any numbers.

I'll remind Stagg to look into it. I know why it doesn't work, but I don't know how to fix it.
