View Full Version : Shoes?
Brooke February 8th, 2005, 02:50 PM Where do you get the majority of your kid's shoes?
In the beginning, we got all of Rebekah's shoes at Stride Rite. But then she started growing out of them or wearing them out so fast that it wasn't worth the expense. At the end of last summer, she was wearing an 8 or 8.5 and now she's in a 10!
Now we get them at Payless or Wal-Mart or Target, since each pair only lasts about a month these days.
Trish February 8th, 2005, 02:53 PM I wish I could shop at another store besides Stride Rite for Aden's shoes, but he has extra wide feet and they are the only place that I have found that carries extra wide shoes and has a decent selection. Thankfully, I have a Stride Rite outlet about 30 mins away, so I can shop there and save a little $$.
Alyssa February 8th, 2005, 02:54 PM I never went to Stride Rite, even though I felt guilty about it.
All the boys sneakers are from New Balance. Joe takes them to the outlet near us as needed.
Dress shoes I've gotten nearly exclusively at Target. Just simple buck-type shoes, both slip on and tie. Same with casual boots/workboots - Target.
Outdoor boots are from wherever - I got their rubber ones at Target and snow ones at Walmart.
TtownAnne February 8th, 2005, 03:00 PM Like Trish, we have no choice. Caroline needs wide width, and noplace around here carries any except Stride Rite! So considering the price we pay she only has a pair or two at a time - maybe 2 pairs of tennis shoes and one pair of dress shoes. In the summer, though, I do buy her flip flops at Target.
Colleen February 8th, 2005, 03:04 PM We've bought Stride Rite's for Avery. We usually get about 4 months out of them. For a while, she just had sneakers, but starting last spring she had sneakers and then a pair of mary janes. We buy them at a local children's shoe store, after 12 pairs, they give you the 13th free. I also hint to grandparents that GC's to the shoe store are good! We've had grandparents buy shoes for us that way. :)
We also have a SR outlet in Niagara Falls. I need to check it out.
Dennis February 8th, 2005, 03:07 PM We buy sneakers and such at the outlets. We get sandals and snow boots wherever we can find them cheap (Wal-mart, Target, etc.)
Dennis
Karri February 8th, 2005, 03:16 PM Our Stride Rite does the buy 12 get the 13th free, as well :aok:
Anyway, I mainly buy from Stride Rite or from Marshall Fields, which sells Stride Rite, for the younger ones. I like the flexibility of the soles and I think its important at their young age.
For Aidan, I buy him whatever sneakers I deem look cool  Right now, its Adidas :aok: (I bought those from www.zappos.com (http://www.zappos.com) :aok: ) He's also got a pair of merrell mocs that I bought at Stride Rite and a pair of el cheapo funky boots from Payless that went w/ his christmas outfit and a pair of funky kenneth cole reaction black tennis shoes w/ the square toe. (am I shoe obsessed? ) I buy his snow boots from Lands End. Their snow boots are da bomb! They are so easy to get on/off...no struggle (and he can do it himself!)! I love them and they are way worth the money
Jillian February 8th, 2005, 03:25 PM Every time we put Janelle in "real" (as in not robeez, shoo shoos, etc) shoes for more than an hour or 2 at a time she gets ingrown toenails. We've had her feet measured at stride right and nordstroms and so we know we are getting the right size, and we've never bought "cheap" shoes, just stride rite and elefantan(sp?), but the ingrown toe nails were so bad once that she had to go on antibiotics for them...so she wears robeez almost exclusively, she has 4 pair of robeez that fit right now and are still in good enough condition to wear out of the house, cream dragon fly, pink cupcake, cream frogs, and BRIGHT pink flowers, they are all 12-18 months. She also has black maryjanes from stride rite (size 5, and we just got her mesured last week and she is still measuring at a 4 1/1), and black ballet slipper looking things from shoo shoos in 18-24 (and these are HUGE on her), she has some snow boots we got at cabellas and then she has her normal light pink robeez booteez in 18-24.
Kincaid has a pair of the traditional white stride rites that we got him last weekend (he has just started walking) in a size 2, but he hasn't worn them yet. He has 2 pair of 0-6 month robeez (argyle and turtles) that still fit but are almost too small and 1 pair of 6-12 month robeez (cream puppies) and a pair of 12-18 month shoo shoos that are huge (black sport stripe or something like that). He also has navy blue robeez booteez in 6-12.
Connie1222 February 8th, 2005, 09:24 PM Jack has wide feet as well, so most of his shoes come from Stride Rite. But I'm lucky, my parents have bought almost all of Jack's shoes since he started wearing them. I have found some wide widths at Payless, and I've bought some sneakers for him there. I also buy really good shoes off Ebay (like Elefanten & Nike sandals). My brother & SIL have taken to buying Jack cool sneakers now too. They gave him a pair of black suede Sketchers for Christmas that he is just about to grow into. But I'm waiting for all the snow to go away.
Karri February 8th, 2005, 09:28 PM I also buy really good shoes off Ebay (like Elefanten & Nike sandals). .
I buy good stuff off ebay too. I stock up on cool Elefanten and Naturino for Norah when I see deals on ebay
LisaBelle February 8th, 2005, 10:09 PM I bought Carolyn's first "real" pair of shoes at Stride Rite. She also has a pair of sneakers from Target but I think while she's learning to walk, I am gonna stick with Stride Rite. She's a size 4.
Julie February 8th, 2005, 10:20 PM Jordan has only worn Stride Rite shoes. For the longest time he wore xtra wide, so it was super hard to find his size anywhere else. I have bought all of his Stride Rites though from an outlet, I was sure relieved to find one in Vegas!
I remember for awhile he was outgrowing his shoes every 2 months, eek! Right now though he seems to wear the same size for 4-6 months. I typically buy him a pair of tennis and a pair of seasonal appropriate shoes each time.
Lyndee February 8th, 2005, 10:39 PM We got Lauryn's first pair at Stride Rite but since then, I pretty much buy shoes everywhere I see ones that I like. I like the Olly store- got her a pair of $40 Elefanten sandals that she loved so much, she wanted to wear them during the winter! I find stuff at Target all the time. And lately, I've been obsessed with zappos.com (thanks to Karri). Someone gave her a pair of $5 sandals from JCPenney that I absolutely loved- I'll have to get those this Spring.
And oh, just some shoes news: Elefanten IS going out of busines so Olly has a lot of their shoes at 50% off- so mostly about $20. But a US subsidiary bought out the Elefanten brand and they will be coming out as Umi.
Eva February 8th, 2005, 10:49 PM I just ordered Emma's first 2 pairs of Stride Rite (a pair of Sandles and walking shoes for the Spring). They were 50% off. Rght now she has primarily been wearing Robeez. She has a pair of shoes (bootlike) from Payless and a cheap pair of runners but I din't want the get any good ones until she was walking. She still isn't walking unassisted but hopefully will be by the Spring and since they were cheaper that I can get in the store I just got a size bigger.
~Deborah~ February 10th, 2005, 01:15 PM We also have a SR outlet in Niagara Falls. I need to check it out.
 WHERE >>WHERE!!!!!!
kim February 10th, 2005, 01:33 PM stride rite only for tony. not only super wide feet, but a high instep. he is a super hard fit.
as a result he generally only has one pr. of sneakers at a time. i do buy them at the outlet :aok:. he actually needs a new pr. right now...i smell an outlet trip!
speaking of smell....
sandals - my problem with them has been the stink! i posted about this last summer and i'm not the only one with this issue! this winter i got teva sandals on clearance for like $10 so hopefully a better quality sandal won't be as stinky. god there are just no words to describe that foul odor. i get chills just thinking about it.
~Deborah~ February 10th, 2005, 01:36 PM sandals - my problem with them has been the stink! i posted about this last summer and i'm not the only one with this issue! this winter i got teva sandals on clearance for like $10 so hopefully a better quality sandal won't be as stinky. god there are just no words to describe that foul odor. i get chills just thinking about it.\
We found this problem last year too with Joshua:dead: . He had a pair of Gap (i think) brown leather sandals and the smell was horrible when he took them off. You would think that with the holes/slits that the air would get through and prevent it:dunno:.
~Deborah~ February 10th, 2005, 01:38 PM We have been trying to get a pair of shoes to fit Kyle for the past month now. He has a very wide and chubby foot. The spring line of stride rites arrive in a few weeks so hopefully we can get some for him then:crossfing:.
Nichole February 10th, 2005, 11:23 PM I bought Jackson's first couple of pairs from the Stride Rite outlet, but since then I've strayed to Target. We also bought him the cutest pair of Vans (only with velcro, because we're lazy  ):
http://www.zappos.com/images/867/123867/50908-t.jpg (http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/1118297/c/513.html)
He's a little skater dude! :dude:
TtownAnne February 10th, 2005, 11:41 PM Nichole, I've been scoping out some Vans for Caroline on Ebay! (kind of an inside family joke, because my dad's nickname is Van, so we always buy him shirts/socks/etc. from there, and I know he would be tickled with Caroline wearing Vans too. ) How are they cut width-wise, though?
Nichole February 11th, 2005, 12:25 AM Anne, the pair that Jackson has are fairly narrow. Well, they're not narrow, but a wide foot would probably be a bit squished. They're a very flexible shoe on the top, and that rubber side doesn't go up real high but I'm not sure that they'd be comfy if Caroline's feet are real wide. :dunno:
~Deborah~ February 11th, 2005, 08:27 AM I bought Jackson's first couple of pairs from the Stride Rite outlet, but since then I've strayed to Target. We also bought him the cutest pair of Vans (only with velcro, because we're lazy  ):

He's a little skater dude! :dude: :lol:Oh I love those..must get some for my boys! Hopefully Kyles' wide pudgy foot can fit into them:lol:.
Nocona February 11th, 2005, 08:32 AM I buy Matthew's shoes wherever I find them that I think are cute and that are a good price. He can wear most normal width, but occasionally needs wide width on some shoes and I haven't had a hard time finding them.
We had the same leather stinky sandal problem as Kim last summer. We finally found something - Kiwi Fresh Force (http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jhtml?CATID=100504&id=prod401149) - that worked and worked great! I've already bought him a pair of leather sandals and a pair of black strap (not sure what they are called  ) sandals for this summer and they'll definitely get sprayed often
Nichole February 11th, 2005, 10:13 AM Ooh Nocona, I'll have to get that stuff because we had a really horrible stinky sandal problem last summer! :dead:
~Deborah~ February 12th, 2005, 07:46 AM We had the same leather stinky sandal problem as Kim last summer. *reminder to self..look for stinky foot helper when in PA*
Thanks Nocona:kiss:
Brookamy February 12th, 2005, 03:46 PM Well, my brother works at a sports store, so we get all Lindsey's tennis shoes there. Last year, I bought her a few pair of sandals from Lands End. They were great.
http://aka.landsend.com/is/image/LandsEnd/21839_A805_M1_BJM_M.jpg (http://aka.landsend.com/cd/imageviewer/0,,0021839:compId=A8:prodId=120670:action=IMAGE:fn =21839_A805_M1_BJM_M.jpg,00.html)
kim February 12th, 2005, 05:04 PM i planned on getting tony some new stride rites tomorrow but today at the mall i swung by payless just to try some on him.
i got a pair that fit! they are 'spaldings' and get this....$8! :woo: i was going to plunk down yet another $25 for stride rites!
oh, he went up an entire size since the last time i bought him sneakers which was only about 3m ago! poor thing probably had squished toes and never said a word.
~Deborah~ February 12th, 2005, 05:11 PM poor thing probably had squished toes and never said a word.I had the same thing happen last month with Joshua. We were walking through the mall and he started crying all of sudden. He said his foot was sore so I pulled off his boot and turns out he had a blister:blush1:. I thought maybe it was from thicker socks so I ran into old navy and got him some thinner ones as he never said a word before when wearing thinner socks with the boots. He refused to put the boots back on.
I took him into the shoe shop and it turns out that he actually was a size 10 and not the size 8 gap that he had been squished into::blush:
Mommy of the year award to me
Hannabanana February 12th, 2005, 05:43 PM Hanna's first pair were Stride Rite but since then, it's been whateva. Gosh there are some cute ones coming out at Payless though ... and the prices are great when you buy one, get one 1/2 or some deal like that. Hanna is a shoe-crazed child so needless to say, we shop for shoes ALL the time.
redhairedgirl February 12th, 2005, 07:22 PM Aiden so far wears Stride Rite's shoes. I get him this funky pair that go with dressy and sporty combinations: http://www.striderite.com/images/us/local/products/detail/100511_52.jpg
I'm boring, I buy the same shoes over and over in different sizes.
~Deborah~ February 12th, 2005, 07:45 PM Oh those are nice:aok:. That is what I am looking for, for Kyle.
Bonnie March 21st, 2005, 07:53 PM Caroline had a big wide foot for a long time, so we bought a lot of Stride Rite... now, I usually get a couple Stride Rite and get most everything else at Target. I end up getting a lot of the Stride Rites at Nordstrom though because for some reason they have a better selection and better prices on Stride Rites shoes than Stride Rite. I thought I'd get to hand down the shoes to Courtney, but her feet are tiny and not wide.
TtownAnne March 21st, 2005, 09:48 PM Must be something with the name.... My Caroline is now 3 1/4 and we only JUST bought her first pair of shoes that weren't a wide width, so for moms of wide-feet kids, I swear they do apparently start to narrow out!
Caroline had a big wide foot for a long time, so we bought a lot of Stride Rite...
~Deborah~ March 23rd, 2005, 09:45 AM We were in King of Prussia last week and I bought 3 pairs of shoes for the boys.
http://www.striderite.com/images/us/local/products/detail/KILAMANJAROWHEAT.JPG for Kyle
http://www.striderite.com/images/us/local/products/detail/FIRSTMATEBROWN.JPG Kyle
http://www.striderite.com/images/us/local/products/detail/ANGLER.JPG Joshua
I was able to use my 2-$5 off coupons for each sale..thanks to the girl ringing up the boys shoes under two transactions :aok:.
Kimmy0712 March 23rd, 2005, 01:08 PM We buy from Stride Rite since we have an outlet about 20 minutes away. We can get them each a pair of shoes for the price of one pair at the mall.
~Deborah~ March 23rd, 2005, 01:11 PM I wish we had an outlet here in Canada. The kids shoe store at the mall said that I would NEVER find a shoe to fit Kyle's foot...gee then why do they make XXXW stride rites then...silly goose! Kyle takes an XW even:rolleyes:...they are just too lazy to send for his size.
LisaBelle March 25th, 2005, 10:04 AM I am buying Carolyn's at the Stride Rite outlet. Amazing that you can get them for 1/2 of the price compared to the store at the mall
Lyndee March 29th, 2005, 12:23 PM $176 for toddler sandals????? Found these on Zappos.com
http://couture.zappos.com/images/948/7176948/1729-163300-d.jpg
Michelear March 29th, 2005, 12:39 PM We bought Wiggie's first shoes at Stride Rite. Where we are they have a bad selection. OH well.. Now I get them wherever. I just bought a pair of timberland shoes at burlington coat factory for $25.
