What kind of kitchen flooring do you have?

Do you like it?

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt?

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear?

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Vinyl self-stick tiles that look kind of like slate tiles

Do you like it? NO!! I can't stand it! It looked nice when we first moved in, but the tiles are starting to pop up in the corners and/or shift around. It's particularly bad by the heat register and where the sun shines in.

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? It hides dirt well because of the color/pattern, but it's very hard to keep clean. It always feels a little grimy.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? No, it isn't holding up well at all. Where the corners are popping up, some of the colored part has peeled away. It looks terrible. I would never install this stuff if I had a choice.

I'm really thinking about replacing our flooring with laminate that looks like tile, but I wanted to see if anyone has laminate flooring in their kitchen and if they're happy with it. Is it a good idea for the kitchen?

Real tile would be nice, but our kitchen is on a raised subfloor and is pretty big, so we're afraid the tile would be too much weight.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? ceramic tiles.

Do you like it? NO!

Is it easy to keep clean? Not at all! The grout is white and it gets really dirty. I spent an hour scrubbing it on Saturday night. Does it show dirt? Yes, because it's a very light color. I think it's called eggshell. I swear our landlords bought the cheapest tile they could find.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear?So far it looks good when it's clean. We've only had it about 6 months though.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Ceramic Tile

Do you like it? Yep! I love it!

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? Yep it's easy to keep clean and no it doesn't show dirt, we have dark colored tile and the grout is gray to match it! We got light colored tile for our new house but avoided white grout so that it'd be easier to keep clean. :)

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? Most definitely!

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? We have Formica that is looks like hardwood.

Do you like it? Yes we do!

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? It is really easy to keep clean and it doesn't show dirt, although it is a blond wood color. It is very easy to sweep and we just clean it with Pine Sol and it looks great!

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? Yes it does. We got the Formica instead of real hard wood because of the kids. It looks as good as the day we installed it about 4 years ago.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Light blue-grey ceramic tile

Do you like it? Yes, but I'd have preferred another color

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? Very easy to clean and doesn't really show dirt tooo much, unless it's something dark like tomato sauce.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? Yep. We have one tile that has a tiny crack in the corner. But it was that way when we bought the house. All kind of stuff has been dragged and dropped across it and it still looks new.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Vinyl posing as slate tile; it's a taupe and blue-gray color mix. It's not the self-stick squares you have; it's a large sheet.

Do you like it? Being a purist, I'd prefer real tile, but I think it's a good floor for our money. We've gotten compliments.

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? Yes, it's very easy to clean and we couldn't have chosen better as far as hiding dirt.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? Our house is only a year old -- so far, so good.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Vinyl flooring (all one sheet) in a white color.

Do you like it? NO!! :wtf: were we thinking getting WHITE?! OMG - we were high! OUr floors show every freaking speck of dirt and always look dirty and disgusting!

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? See above

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? We got the flooring installed a year and a half ago. It was the cheapest in-stock flooring available and so far, its held up well. My only complaint is that we got it in white.

We only chose this b/c we plan to gut the entire kitchen in a few years and start over, so we wanted to put as little money into the flooring as possible and get rid of the butt-ugly 80's vinyl that was here when we bought the place

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Hardwood floor

Do you like it? I love it!

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? It's very easy to clean and it doesn't show dirt.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? We've only been living here for 5 months so for now it's been great. However, I am always worried that I'll drop something and scratch them so that's the only thing I don't like. I'm to worried I'll ruin them.

Do you like it?
i love the look of it but it's cold.

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt?
umm..i'm not much of a cleaner. i just vacuum it when needed and mop a lot less than i should ...and no it does not show dirt at all. hence the less than frequent mopping :blush1:

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear?
yes and no. we have a few cracked tiles and some missing grout but i think the previous owners did a crappy installation and that is the problem . we've been meaning to get it repaired for months.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Hardwood

Do you like it? Yes, I do like it but it needs to be refinished.

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? I'd say it's pretty easy to keep clean. I have the Dirt Devil Vac n Mop so I just vaccum it and then I mop it using Bruce Hardwood Floor Cleaner. The vaccum has a little container for the cleaner and I just slap one of those swiffer things on the bottom to mop. It's easy and cordless. Oh, and it's pretty good at hiding dirt. I can see every spot on the floor because I'm so anal about spots but if you asked Jeff, he'd say the floor looked spotless.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? Well, our house if 5 years old and we're the 3rd owner so the floor is starting to show a bit of wear. It's a very high traffic area since the garage door is right off the kitchen and we use that almost exclusively. We never come through the front door anymore. There are some areas where the finish is wearing off and I'd say that it will need to be refinished in the next couple of years. I'm not sure how the previous owners took care of the floor but I'm surprised that it's already showing so much wear. We had hardwoods in our family room and eat in area in our old townhouse and they held up much better than these floors and the townhouse is just as old as our new house.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Technically, we have hardwood. But DH refinished it when we moved in (it had linoleum glued to it with tar) and he didn't do it right. So it was rough and I couldn't clean it. Plus, when it got wet, the water or whatever would soak into the wood and stain it.

So, we just installed a vinyl no-glue sheet today - a temporary (2-3 yr) fix until we can refinish all the hardwood in the house. I'm loving the way the vinyl looks and feels today. I finally feel like my kitchen is clean.

Do you like it? Love the hardwood, if it was finished correctly.

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? Don't know about the vinyl yet. If the wood is well-sealed, it's easy to clean.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? Same as above.

By the way - I would avoid the laminate anywhere where it could get wet often. My mom has it in her kitchen and you can see all the seams kind of curling up where the dog water dish is.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Pergo, its the wood look-alike

Do you like it? Yes, we love it.

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? It is very easy to keep clean, and it doesn't really show dirt all that much. Then again, I'm pretty anal about keeping my floors clean

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? We've only had it since September, but its held up very well so far.

popping back in to say that our last house had kitchen floors similar to Kim's. We LOVED them! That is what we'll be doing again. While I love the look of wood (which is what we have in most of our house), I love the tile. I am anally clean and rarely scrubbed them b/c they just hid the dirt so well  Plus they held up to traffic so well. And the grout was dark, so it didnt show dirt.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? Armstrong laminate flooring. It's a pretty cherry color (hardwood look a like)

Do you like it? I love it! Much better than my white/green vinyl flooring

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? It shows the dust easily, but I think that is because of the way the sun comes in. I just sweep it and then use a Swiffer on it.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? We don't have a ton of people over, but so far so good.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have?
Pergo

Do you like it?
Love it!

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt?
Very easy to keep clean... I usually just vacuum it quickly (while I am vacuuming the living room) and then use my Swifter. It doesn't show much dirt

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear?
Very well! The only thing is when I drop something really heavy, it chipped twice when I did that.

When we redo our kitchen when we move, I want pergo laminate flooring. It's very, very durable. :)

In our old house we put in the vinyl self stick squares. It was nice, but the color was mostly white with a little blue in the middle, and because of that EVERYTHING showed up. We didn't really care though...it made the kitchen look bigger and newer and we just put it in cuz we were going to sell the house.

Dawn, I think that's exactly why we have those self stick squares in our kitchen, too. The seller just put something quick and easy in to sell the house. I have to admit that we're guilty of the same offense and did those in our old house, too.

I'm glad to hear that some of you have laminate/Pergo in your kitchens because I was afraid that it wasn't suitable for that environment. We don't have water bowls or anything on the floor, so I figure if I wipe up spills right away it should be fine, right?

we haven't had any problems with our pergo and water. we have a big waterer for the cats and dog, and they occasionally spill out water, and I've never seen it do anything. the floor hasn't warped or anything.

Nichole,

I can't speak for regular laminate flooring, but as for the pergo laminates, I hear thay they are very, very durable with having kids, water spills and everything else. I watch HGtv alot and a few times when kitchen re-dos were being done, I remember them always mentioning how good pergo laminate flooring was for the durability, and if you have kids, etc. :) It's made differently from regular laminate flooring. I guess that's why you pay the bigger bucks for the pergo. :)
They have a website or two as well that I have come across.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have?

Vinyl that looks like 12x12 tile

Do you like it?

Yes!

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt?

Very easy to keep clean and it's a brown color so it doesn't show dirt at all.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear?

Oh yeah! Granted, we've only had it for about 2 1/2 years but between our 2 moose-sized dogs and kids and people in and out it's holding up VERY well.

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? We have Bruce manufactured hardwood (between Pergo and planks) in a dark wood that resembles Brazilian cherry.

Do you like it? Yes!!! :) Here's a picture:

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? Definitely! We have 2 pets running through our house and there's hair on the floor all the time :dead:....along with the usual spills. In a way, it hides the dirt almost TOO well because by the time it's really bothering me, it's truly disgusting.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? It does pretty well. We paid extra for the high-gloss finish to hold up to our large dog and kids. We did have a mishap a few months ago, however, when Greta (the dog) stepped on one of Alex's magnet letters and slid across the floor....putting a big gouge in it. :(

Oh, I wanted to add that we had sheet vinyl in our previous house and that was alright.... It did tend to peel up at the corners and edges though, which was ugly.

In our house now, we took out ceramic tile flooring when we remodeled. I *hated* it!!! :dead: It was white...which was bad enough....but if any water whatsoever got on the floor, it turned into a skating rink. Even if you wiped it up right away, it would still be a little slick. Not good. Plus, the tiles were small, so the texture was awful....totally not flat and hard to clean because it sloped down where the grout was. Never again.....

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? hardwood

Do you like it? love it!

Is it easy to keep clean? Does it show dirt? easy to clean and doesn't show dirt. just sweep it up. once a week or so i use murphy's oil on it.

Does it hold up well to traffic and wear and tear? Holds up great! This is the original floor that's over 100 years old! We have a baby and 2 dogs and we aren't careful with it. We did have it refinished since it'd never been done. It's great!
