View Full Version : When do you grocery shop? Colleen January 13th, 2005, 08:28 PM When do you find you go the most often to do the weekly/biweekly shopping? During the weekdays? Weeknights? Weekends? Who goes with you? Colleen January 13th, 2005, 08:34 PM I usually go on Sunday afternoons when the kids are napping. Jeff stays home with them. I could go during the week, during the day and take the kids, but it is a major hassle. Sabrina now rides in the cart, and Avery prefers those "truck" shopping carts that corner like Sherman Tanks. Plus, both kids get bored before I am done and I always end up cutting the shopping short. The nice thing is where I shop (Wegmans) has some perks. You can get a "drive-up" where you pull up to a designated area and they bring your cart out and load your groceries into your trunk for you. It's free and you're not allowed to tip. They also have a childwatch system called "WKids," but it's for ages 3 and up, so we have't used it yet. It's basically a supervised play area for kids so parents can shop. A friend of mine used to work in that area and said it was very well run and the security is very good. I've also found that I'll do light shopping (and sometimes major) on my way home from a weeknight shift at the mall. (I work once a week.) Wegmans is right across the street, and it's nice and quiet, so I can get in and get out. LISA January 13th, 2005, 08:53 PM Everyweek, I try to go on Thursdays(when dh's pay is in the bank) but if I am working that day I go on friday and always first thing in the morning(8am). I really try to avoid going anywhere near the grocery stores on weekends, way to busy. Julie January 13th, 2005, 09:25 PM I do the grocery shopping during the day. I was doing it with both kids which wasn't too bad as long as I had snacks, but now that Jordan is in preschool, I am only having to take Blake :) Jenn January 13th, 2005, 09:53 PM I don't have any set time when I go other than I *never* go during the day with the girls. Sometimes I'll go after Jeff gets home from work and I'll take Peyton with me and other times I'll go after the girls are in bed so I can go by myself. Occassionally, I'll go on a weekend and if I do that then I take Peyton with me. She likes to go shopping and is normally very good for me. TtownAnne January 13th, 2005, 10:10 PM During tax season, I take Caroline on Sunday mornings while everyone else is at church/out to breakfast. When it's not tax season, we either go on Friday mornings, or I go on Saturdays while James does something with her. Shanna January 13th, 2005, 10:21 PM I have no choice but to take my three with me, I usually go on Thursday or Friday nights after work  sheila January 14th, 2005, 07:25 AM I almost always go later in the day with both girls. Even though the end gets a little crazy, Maggie is a big enough fan of the grocery store that it usually makes for a decent afternoon activity. The cool raccar shopping carts help, too. I just switched grocery stores because the one we used to go to has the cars on the far side of the cart, and this othe one has them between me & the cart, wich works much better. Michele January 14th, 2005, 07:37 AM Usually I go during the week in the late morning. Most of the time I do it on our way home from Kindermusik or I'll combine it with other errands, like going to Target or something, and I always have Jackson with me. Every once in a while both Scott and I will go on a Saturday morning...I like this b/c he carries all the groceries inside. Last week, I tried something new and ordered my groceries on-line and had them delivered. Overall it worked out pretty well, the food was exactly what I ordered and everything was of good quality, also, I spent less money even though I did pay a $3.00 delivery fee, b/c I didn't impulse buy, and I was able to go through my "cart" and the end and take out the stuff I really didn't need. My only complaint was that the driver got lost, making him 1/2 hour late, and gave me major attitude about it. I am going to try it again next week and see how it goes. I live on the 3rd floor and it is getting really hard to carry Jackson and all the groceries upstairs, so I really want the delivery to work. Mandi January 14th, 2005, 09:44 AM I don't have a set time that I go. Just whenever we need groceries. I try to go on days when Michael is home and then we either all go together or I go by myself and he stays at home with the girls. But if I need something I'll take them both with me. It's not really that bad unless you go when they are really hungry or during nap times. :errr: Carla January 14th, 2005, 09:46 AM We go on Mark's day off and all go together. We all enjoy getting out together :) Nichole January 14th, 2005, 10:41 AM I don't have a set day or time, either. I pretty much always wait until Brendon is home (either the evening or on the weekend) and go by myself. It's just about my only alone time so I try to savor it. jstauffer January 14th, 2005, 01:54 PM I go usually on a weekday morning with both kids. That's when the stores are not crowded and the kids are in pretty good moods. We go a couple times a week it seems like. redhairedgirl January 14th, 2005, 06:33 PM I really love to go at about 5AM on Saturday morning while everyone is still in bed. I go get coffee (and a donut  ) and it's just kind of my "me" time. I love grocery shopping, but taking Aiden with me is becoming a larger pain, so I just go at this time. I also hit the Super Wal-Mart at this time too - all the shelves are fully stocked in anticipation for Saturday's usual madness. :woo: Mandy Lynn January 14th, 2005, 09:36 PM The nice thing is where I shop (Wegmans) has some perks. LOVE Wegmans! Too bad we won't be here long enough to use WKids :) I usually like to shop on Tuesdays and I like to leave the house by 9:30 am. I know that sounds weird, but 99.9% of the time the shelves are fully re-stocked from the weekend rush and if I get there before 10:00 I am assured an awesome parking spot! I always bring Aaron with me :dunno: even though I get it done much faster w/o him. My husband absolutely refuses to grocery shop because he doesn't have the patience to comparisson shop like I do  If I keep Aaron entertained then I'm usually in and out of there and home within 1 1/2 hours! :) Alyssa January 14th, 2005, 09:50 PM Not answering for me, but for Joe who SAH with the boys. We have no set time of the week when we go, but he almost always takes both boys with him. Like Sheila said, the racecar cart helps a lot. :aok: LisaBelle January 15th, 2005, 09:42 PM I usually go with Carolyn after her nap and lunch (around 1pm). So far Carolyn has been easy to go with... she loves just riding in the cart and talking to strangers (and holding onto the Dora the Explorer graham cracker box that I buy). I go whenever we have a free day and we need the food (obviously  ). I usually go once every 2 weeks (and I go to Costco about twice a month too for some other stuff). I really do like going with carolyn but I am sure that will change as she gets older and tells me all the things she wants me to buy  TtownAnne January 15th, 2005, 11:19 PM Nah, Caroline still likes it! As long as you can hold out against them throwing stuff in the cart (eggs! ), it's cake. She likes to tell me what to put on the grocery list - chocolate milk, chocolate ice cream, bananas, etc. Notice a theme developing? I really do like going with carolyn but I am sure that will change as she gets older and tells me all the things she wants me to buy  Chantal January 16th, 2005, 11:33 AM When do you find you go the most often to do the weekly/biweekly shopping? During the weekdays? Weeknights? Weekends? Who goes with you? I usually go on weekends... I try to go Sundays - as Saturdays are too crazy. I try to get out every 2nd week (my pay weekends). Since I run a home daycare, I can't get out during the week - unless my numbers drop right down and I only have one child on board that day. I always bring Kaitlyn along :) She is very well-behaved and so much fun to take out and about :) Sometimes I will shop by myself - but I find it boring without her around to talk to. Karri January 16th, 2005, 09:36 PM I prefer to go on weekends because its too damn hard to take the three kids into the store!!! There are carts in the store that hold the three kids, but I somehow have to figure a way to get the 3 kids INTO the store to get the damn cart! Anyway, I typically go on the weekend and I take Aidan with me. We usually get a truck cart and he is usually pretty good. He knows that if he is good, he can pick out one thing at the end of the trip (crazy kid always picks out cherry or grape tomatoes! ) ANYWAY...... If I HAVE to go during the week to get something, I usually grab a cart from the corral in the parking lot, put Elliott in there, and toss Norah into the carrier (mai tai) and then we trek into the store and I let Aidan push one of those little carts. We can only do that for VEEEERY short trips, though, because his patience wears thin and he starts tossing stuff into his cart and sitting down in the isle. Cortney January 17th, 2005, 04:05 PM I normally go on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Josh normally has Monday off, but if he's busy on Monday then we go then -if not we go on Tuesday. I always take Morgan. (and now Raelyn too) We'll have our first grocery store trip with the three of us tommorow. :) olcott January 17th, 2005, 05:49 PM I usually go during the week. Trey is really good at grocery shopping. And our store hands out lots of free samples, so that helps  It keeps him occupied and he likes interacting with the other shoppers. If I waited to do it on the weekends, DH would want to come and he drives me crazy when we're shopping, so I usually don't  Melissa January 17th, 2005, 08:42 PM I go on Sunday while Katie is napping. Free time!!! Amy January 18th, 2005, 09:42 PM We go weekly on DH's day off, usually either Thursday or Friday. I try to time it around naps, but it doesn't always work out. Occasionally I'll have to go alone with both girls, and our Super WalMart doesn't have carts to hold 2 kids, so Emily has to sit in the basket. I hate it, but she's really good about staying seated and helping me with groceries...she'll hand them to me to load on the checkout. I much prefer DH to go along, because he'll carry everything in the house when I get home! This week I have to go solo on Thursday because Friday I've got a birthday cake to bake & decorate for her party on Saturday. Shanna and Karri, my hat's off to both of you for braving the store with 3 little ones!!! MiaPadia January 20th, 2005, 01:33 PM We go every Wednesday usually and pick up odds and ends on other days of the week if needed. I have 3 children under 5. :) |
