What is the rule when playing cards. Can you start organizing right away, or is it rude? Do you wait for everyone to be dealt, then look at your cards? What direction does the dealer start? I have a bet with my husband on these. Any help out there?

You mean there is ettiquette?

We play ALL the time. We're big card players. Anyway, sometimes I organize right away, sometimes I wait for all my cards. It's not an issue at all to me (or any of my playing buddies). As a dealer it makes me absolutely NO difference at all when you decide to start organizing your hand.

We all deal from left to right... so clockwise. I start with the person on my left and end with myself.

The deal goes to the left.

I think the general ettiquite is to wait until the dealer is finished before picking up your cards.

I usually pick them up as they are dealt. I didn't know there was a rule otherwise.
And we deal to the left.

I am a casino dealer in Las Vegas. I would have to say that most card games are dealt clockwise, starting from my left to right. As for picking up your cards, unless the casino mandates that you must wait, a player can pick up their cards right away...some players wait-it's sometimes a case of personal superstition [gamblers are a very superstitious bunch].

I guess you could implement house rules if you wish. PM me if you have more questions. Hope this helps.

I never thought about it! I just pick them up and organize them as they're dealt.
