View Full Version : Playing with fire...

Well, technically we're OTL and not using any birth control...but in reality, I'm really really REALLY *not* ready for another baby right now. Brian is ready whenever I give the word...and originally I thought we'd be actively TTC right now since Katie is a year old.
To conceive Katie, we needed IF help since I rarely ovulate and Brian has issues with viscosity...so our "OTL" efforts don't mean all that much...or at least that's what we think.
I've had one AF since Katie was born and I'm fairly certain I actually ovulated on Saturday--about the right time frame since AF (although I'm not charting or keeping track of dates) and I had cramps that I think were ovulation cramps at midday on Saturday.
So what did we do? We played with fire on Saturday night. Afterward we both realized that might have been tempting fate a bit. I did do a bit of research online and realized that although it is possible...BDing after ovulation is not as "risky" as BDing right before ovulation...but it still wasn't the best choice in terms of not getting PG.
Anyhow, anyone else playing with fire even though you're not planning on getting PG right now?

Obviously, not me, but I wanted to share THIS with you.....I *just* found out from a mom of 4 mo. old girl twins (who is in my twins club and moms club) that she is pregnant. To say she is shocked doesnt serve it justice. They went through 3 years of IVF to have the twins b/c they both had fertility issues

Oh MAN!! I think I'd be having a heart attack if I was her! Um, yeah, so I guess that whole depending on past IF to keep you from getting PG might not be the most reliable form of birthcontrol. Ooopsie!

I suppose we fit into this category. Although I would love to get pregnant now the timing is just not the best for us. We are planning to try for a third next summer. That being said we are not being as careful as we should lately! Getting pregnant now is not in my plan mainly because my brother is getting married next fall and I don't want "rain on his parade" by getting pregnant and having a baby before the wedding.

CAREFUL! :)
We have friends who tried for 10 years, and after their 3rd IVF had triplets. She never even thought about using BCP because of how long it took them to have the girls. The triplets were 5 months old when she found out she was pg again!! Apparently getting pg jogged something loose

Yes, be very careful. We have friends who struggled with infertility and finally adopted triplets. Sure enough, a year later, she got pregnant.

I found out I was pregnant with the twins the same day my endocrinologist told me my hormone levels were too crazy and low and that there was no way I would be pregnant anytime soon :dunno: ... not to mention, I was breastfeeding (which I know, is not a method of BCP, but....)

Oh yeah --there is another mom in my MOMS club whose kids are TEN....yes, TEN months apart  She had PCOS and had to take metformin (or was it glucophage?) for a year to have her first and she was BFing when oops....she got PG when he was a month old!

I guess this is the right place to ask this Q, we will be actively TTC in Jan, Feb next year, until then we are using the withdrawal method, does anyone know someone who has become PG this way?? I would be happy if it happened, but it would be a bit sooner than DH had planned.
gulp!

We were using charting with Withdraw combined with condoms. DH didn't withdraw or get a condom ONE time and as a result, we got Rebekah.

My friend has twin girls with this "method". Are you charting to know when you are Oing?

The only true reliable form of birth control is abstinence

Sorry, no, I have no idea! I wasn't charting or anything, so I had no reason to even suspect I was pg until AF was two weeks late and I realized I was a raging hormonal mess.
