We've talked alot about wanting to do something special as a community for the holidays. We had considered a Secret Santa Exchange or cookie swap and a variety of other things... but we wanted to do something a little more special. So, we started thinking about charities.

After much thought and more research than I care to do, we have chosen "Clark's Christmas Kids (http://clarkhoward.com/topics/christmas_kids.html)" for the OUAL 2004 Holiday Charity. Clark's Christmas Kids is a program run by Clark Howard. 100% of the money raised goes to buying gifts for children in the Georgia DCFS system. For the past several years, this particular drive has been responsible for 45% of all gifts for children in the Georgia foster care program.

Our charity drive will last through December 15*, when the 3 admins here will go with Clark Howard to buy gifts with the money we have raised. We'll take pictures and videos so you can see.

We're setting $1500 as our goal, and within the next week, we'll have a graphic on the front page that will count how much we have raised. Donations can be made through PayPal to the email address: holiday2004@onceuponalife.com

To aid with our fundraising, we'd like to call for donations to be auctioned off (on ebay). Handmade objects, gently used merchandise, or anything you were thinking about selling but needed a little push.... here's your push! Please contact Wendy or I about anything you might like to auction off... we can group everything together on eBay and have them specially marked as part of a charity drive. :aok:

:santa: Thanks in advance!!

Holly- you can certainly send cash or check.....I will get you the address.

Sara- I would think you can print out your paypal receipt and that would work for tax purposes if you are ever audited (I assume that is what you are talking about) but we can ask the in-house CPA for sure :)

You read my mind, Wendy--I am asking about it for tax purposes. :)

When I click on the "OUAL Charity Challenge" sentence at the top right of my screen, it tells me I don't have permission to access that page. :dunno:

I think Roger is the person to help figure this out, since he is quite knowledgeable on laws governing taxes.

I did a donation in lieu of doing the card exchange. I hope this doesn't upset anyone, but with being off on leave, I could only do one or the other. Hope you reach your goal.

Keep your paypal receipt, with a notation as to what it is for. This should be sufficient to sustain the charitable deduction (should the IRS even ask) if required. This receipt should be enough for any contribution of $75 or less.

In addition, we will keep records of who gave what as further substantiation. This can supplement your receipt in the case where your donation is more than $75. Thanks! ROGER.
