View Full Version : OUAL Logo... Ideas? Submissions?

Believe it or not, OUAL has been around for almost a year! :rahrah::toast:We've been talking about getting a real logo together to celebrate, and we'd like your help.

We have a professional graphic designer we can use to create a logo for us, but who knows OUAL better than us? Since we have such amazing talent within our ranks, we'd like to ask for submissions for our logo (or logo-to-be as the case may be).

So far, the only things we know for sure are that we'd like to get rid of the "something new" tagline, since after a year, we aren't that new anymore. And ideally, we'd like to have something we could "dress up" for the holidays.

Anyone want to give it a shot?
If you aren't a graphics guru... do you have any ideas about a logo that might help the gurus?

That is cute! For Christmas, you could wrap the letters with strands of lights or make the O a wreath. You could put fall leaves around the letters...I think it might be easier to dress up words or letters than a picture or graphic. But I'm not a pro.

I like that  and I like Brooke's idea of wrapping letters with holiday/seasonal decorations. Kinda like the Google thing.

I think we should come up with maybe 4 top choices and have the community vote on their favorite!

I wish I was more talented. I really like Deb's idea though.

Well, just so we have more options, I'll go ahead and make some suggestions, even though I think everyone already likes the logo that's been posted. ;) I always associate this site's name with the beginning of a fairy tale: "Once upon a time..." so, how about a profile/silhouette of a mother reading to a child, or a graphic of an open book with the OUAL name on the pages? I don't have the drawing skills to come up with the actual images, but at least these examples would give the graphic designer something to work with. With the mother reading graphic, the background could be altered with seasonal and holiday decorations. Or, maybe small holiday graphics could be added around the name, like Christmas ornaments hanging from the letters. With a book graphic, perhaps the pages could be altered to look like a Christmas, Easter, etc. storybook. Just some rough ideas I'm throwing around; I don't have the time or skill to fully develop an original logo myself.

You are both very creative! I like them. I agree, we should give people time and then vote on what we like best!
Great job!!

Okay, for some reason, I can't upload attachments to this thread... strange.

Anyway, when I think of the name of our site, I always want to put the emphasis on the LIFE part of it, as that is what we talk about the most - our lives. So, here's my contribution...

This is cute too. And like someone said before you could chage the word "life" around to fit the holiday.

I like all of the ideas ~ especially "dressing" up for different holidays, times of year, etc. The first dress up can be the birthday celebration!!!

I like the fairy tale idea but when I see the woman and child I imagine Roger sitting in the chair. There are guys here, too... Can we have a generic person? Like Pat from SNL but cuter?

But I also like the last one since "life" is emphasized and it is our lives here...

And the first one that Deb did is really nice, too!

Am I the only one that likes the one we have? Just get rid of the "something new" part.

I'm just boring, though!

I like the one we have now, too. I never did anything *special* with it, so I thought I should try to logo-fy it a little.

Nice word, huh?

Here is something I played with today... as you can see, I'm not so good with the pictures, so I stick with fonts.

I prefer the fonts over anything with a graphic....unless your graphic person can come up with something good. I think graphics never look professional enough to me or something. But I'm a little  today so what do I know?

I agree totally, Brooke. So many times they don't look professional at all and they just look hokey.

I really like the 'Oprah' one...although, what if you took out the O in once, and used the Oprah O for the beginning? Does that make *any* sense?!

sheila
October 7th, 2004, 03:57 PM
Yes. that makes sense to me... I just thought it looked funny... like I was saying "nce" was a word

Plus, there are also people here that do not have children.Like me, and I'm the one that suggested the logo with the mother and child. FWIW, it wouldn't bother me if there was a "parenting" themed logo, because, let's face it: the majority of members here ARE mothers. Yes, we do have some dads and CF people, but I don't know the logo is really supposed to represent the demographics of the people; it's a representation of what the board is about, and there are a LOT of parenting and child forums. Plus, I just thought it went along with the concept of "once upon a time...." which is what I think of when I hear the name. That's why I made the suggestion; I wasn't trying to exclude anyone. :dunno:

But certainly, if we just kept the logo to words/fonts, I'd vote for that, too: it's more generic so as not to make anyone feel excluded.

Sheila, the logo actually looks like the "Intel inside" logo. That being said, I like the font-only logos best.

For the holidays we could change the color scheme and remove the lamps to put holiday-themed pictures. I dunno. :dunno:
