Have you used OPKs? If so, what brand did you use? Were they reliable?

I've just started using the Answer brand and was wondering if they were reliable.

I've never used OPKs, but I found some consumer reports on the Answer brand:

I used OPKs and ended up getting false positives--they said I was ovulating when tests done by my RE showed that there was no way I was ovulating. According to him though, that is VERY rare to get false positives. Apparently they're usually pretty accurate for people.

I think something else no one considers is that you might be ovulating, but if your tubes are blocked the egg isn't going anywhere, so you aren't going to get pregnant. KWIM?

I used OPKs. I chose Walgreen's generic brand, same ingredients as name brand. I followed the directions to a tee and used early afternoon urine to test. I charted for two months without them and then decided to add it to my 3rd month. I got accurate results and got pregnant that month. Good luck.

Thanks so much everyone!!

I had a rough time with the Answer brand. I got a positive on Sunday and Monday...and then again on Thursday. I don't know if I actually ovulated or not.

I never could find the clearplan brand she wanted me to get. Then last Thursday (after I had stopped testing) I found out that Clearplan is actually Clearblue now  So next cycle I'll be using the Clearblue.

I had a HSG a couple of weeks ago. My tubes are completely open :) So, now we are just waiting to see if I ovulate with the 50 mg of Clomid.

Thanks Lisa for that info! I'm headed to check it out now!

One thing that worked well for me was testing every other day with the opk's. I kept each stick, and would line them up for comparison sake. The lines definitely got much more similar in color and darkness the closer I got to O until the two lines were really exactly matched. HTH!
