Anyone else doing clomid right now? We used to have the "pill poppers" on UB.

I'm on CD 2 right now. I start clomid on CD 5 and take it through CD 9. I am on 50 mg. and not happy about it. I took 50 mg. March 2002 Oed late (CD 26) then took 100 mg. in April and ended up PG with my daughter. Both times I took it CD 3-7. I was hoping to be on a stronger dose to start, but apparently my doctor is being conservative. She wants to try 3 cycles of 50 before she increses it. I on the other hand am willing to try 1 cycle before taking 100 mg. :eviltongu Maybe not my best judgement call, but I plan to take 100 mg. on my own if the first cycle isn't successful. I still have clomid from my last try (doesn't expire for another year).

Hopefully there are more of us out there going through this craziness.

:wavey: I am new to this club. I had my first dose of Clomid (Serophene) on Aug 10th, 50mg CD5-9. I am 38 years old and just found out I wasn't ovulating. At least not every cycle.

I just had an IUI yesterday. The Doc almost didn't do it because he wasn't entirely thrilled with the sample DH provided, and he didn't want me to waste my money. It was $150. My opinon is: It's only money and you only need 1 sperm and I'm not wasting these good eggs now that I have some! He is referring me to a fertility clinic in a town about 2 hours away for ICSI if this IUI doesn't work. Actually he's referring me anyway and if the IUI works I just won't go.

If the IUI doesn't work I am still going to renew my prescription (I have 2 more refills) and try the old fashioned way in the meantime.

I don't blame you for wanting to up your dose right away. I have an online friend who is going to use her friends leftover prescription because she has been trying for 24 months with only a partial molar pregnancy to show for it, and that was 11 months ago. Her Doc won't get off his ass and do something, so she's taking care of it herself.

August 20th, 2004, 09:34 PM
sounds like it's time for her to find a new doc! My doctors never hesitated to put me on clomid. I went in with 3 months worth of charts and told them I wanted it. I got it. I mean I *did* ovulate on the 50 (I think) it was just a late O.

Is it awful that I am not looking forward to the every other day sex-a-thon?!?

Bev
August 20th, 2004, 09:54 PM
I agree she needs a new doc, but I guess with the insurance groups etc you can't really do that so easily in the US.

NO, it's not awful. It just becomes work after a while, KWIM? It's not fun anymore. It's like, I don't care if either of us feel like it or not, we HAVE to whether we want to or not.

Are you using opk's?

~Andrea~
August 20th, 2004, 10:16 PM
no, I can't afford them the way I'd go through them. I've never gotten a + on one anyway. I am attempting to chart though, which is difficult given the lack of schedule around here. DH doesn't get up at the same time every day. I just started temping on CD 1 and already today he woke me up an hour before my alarm  Oh well, I'll do the best I can, right?

Hi Andrea! Hi Beverly!

Beverly.. I answered your IUI question from a while ago in the IUI thread.. but looks like you had one yesterday, so you probably know what it is already.

good luck ladies. :)

:wavey: Can I join in :)

I go and see my fertility specialist TOMORROW  I saw him (Dr Reid) before conceiving Kaitlyn successfully. It only took 3 rounds of Provera/Clomid. I ovulated successfully at 100mg.... so I am hoping to start right away at 100mg again :)

However, I have a bit of a curve ball right now -- I am also awaiting galbladder surgery. I still plan on taking the Provera to bring on AF and the Clomid --- I will be taking my temp too. Then, hopefully the surgery will be done by the time I Ovulate ;) or I have a spontaneous AF cycle due to ovulating... then I take Clomid again, and hopefully conceive successfully with that cycle :)

I am looking forward to hotflashes and mood swings ;) The end result is worth it all :)

How am I just now finding this thread? I'm on round two of 150 mgs this go round. In October we will have been TTC #2 for a year. I m/c'd in March while taking 100mgs and then my cycles went all fubar again.

Why can't conceiving a child be easy??

Good luck girls!

How am I just now finding this thread?
I only just started it a few days ago

Chantal, I hope they start you on 100 this time. I was (am) pissed that I was put on 50 this time  Hopefully starting it later will make a difference.

I just wanted to pop in and give you all encouragement! I am one of the success stories of clomid, I was part of the pill popper thread back in UB...

I had 2 successful pregnancies from clomid it was my miracle tablet after 1 year of trying to concieve our first....

If you guys need ANY help don't hesitate to ask! I just know you are all going to have the "happy" stories to tell very very soon

Good luck :hug1:

p.s. Andrea: I had to do 2 cycles on 100mg for my first son and got pregnant on that... but my first cycle for my 2nd son i was put on 50mg and got pregnant of the bat!!! so don't get too discouraged it may be all you need!!!

CD 24 and still no "O" yet :blue: I have had EWCM for the past couple of days so I'm hoping today or tomorrow. Gotta get in some :sex: today :brow: I Oed CD 26 and CD 28 on clomid the first 2 times and got PG on CD 28 so I'm still feeling positive.

Bev
September 11th, 2004, 12:26 PM
Hmm. That's a long cycle Andrea. Clomid doesn't seem to have affected the length of my cycles. I took an OPK this morning and it is positive and also there is good ferning on my saliva monitor, so it looks like the next couple of days are our last chance to :boink: prior to needing serious medical intervention. I am CD12 right now.

:crossfing it works! I wish I could find some of that Red Bull Energy Drink to liven up DH's boys!

~Andrea~
September 11th, 2004, 04:10 PM
well clomid HAS affected my cycles as my last one was 90+ days and would have been longer w/o the provera :lol2:

MelissaNC
September 11th, 2004, 07:54 PM
Hi ladies :wavey: Mind if I join? I take my last Provera tomorrow night, then it's on to 50 mg of Clomid on CD 3-7. She's only letting me take Clomid for three cycles. If it hasn't worked by then, then she is sending me on to the "big city" (a little over an hour from here) to a specialist.

I feel like I'm :help: in all these emotions! I'm so excited about the possibility of getting pg...but then I'm scared to death to even think it can happen.

Did anyone have side effects from Clomid? If so, what were they? I've heard of mood swings..What else?

~Andrea~
September 11th, 2004, 10:37 PM
hot flashes and dehyration were the ones I had first go 'round. This time I was just OVERLY tired all the time. Just NO ENERGY!

The rush of emotions is normal. I remember having the same thoughts about never being PG. I feel the same way now, only (because I already have one child) the emotions aren't as strong.

Hopefully clomid will be your miracle drug as it has been for lots of women on board!

Bev
September 12th, 2004, 07:22 AM
Good luck Melissa! I did not have any side effects but I was on 50mg Serophene, a generic form I think. The only thing I did notice was some pains in my lower stomach area, but that could have been eggs developing!

I have those same emotions thinking about possibly never being pg/having another child, but they haven't lessened at all for me, even though I have Mason. Part of that may be because I'm 38 and getting close to not being able to any more.

MrsPeacefrog
September 13th, 2004, 08:16 AM
Melissa: the main side effects I had were the Hot flushes...and I had a little dehydration too but nothing major!! everything you are feeling is totally normal.. I was the exact same way.... and after my first cycle of clomid failed to get me pregnant I was even more devistated because I really thought it would be my salvation, but in the end the 2nd round did it... I wish you all the luck in the world :hug1:

Chantal
September 13th, 2004, 08:03 PM
 I JUST finished my first round of 100mg of Clomid... the dose I conceived Kaitlyn at. Anyhow... I am not TTCing this cycle - as I am awaiting my surgery date (hopefully for First week of October  ) Then we are ttc'ing next cycle... I HOPE that it works out for us too. So this cycle, I am just going to temp -- and look for that ever popular Ovulation dip/spike in temp :) If AF shows up by CD 34'ish - then I KNOW with 100% certainty that 100mg is going to make me ovulate again :) I do have the typical blood test to have done on CD 24 (Sept 28th).

I have had very little side effects this time. Just a bit of moodiness here and there and a couple of hot flashes... nothing at all, to what I would consider *major*. I guess though, I have been drinking 3 litres of water each day, to keep my gallbladder from flaring up... so I am certain THAT helped out a great deal.

Oh, I have been getting headaches from the Clomid --- that is the only side effect that I can say was bothersome this time around.

~Andrea~
September 13th, 2004, 08:12 PM
I'm on CD 26 and so far no O :blue: This sucks. If I don't O in the next few days, I'm doing 100 mg. on my own next month :blush1: This is just ridiculous  I didn't think I'd get down so early on, but I am frustrated.

I don't like to bitch about it in my journal though because a few of my closest online friends have it so much worse than me. I know I am lucky to have Gab and likely I WILL ovulate and get PG again. I can't help feeling sorry for myself :blue:

Bev
September 13th, 2004, 08:54 PM
I think the whole idea of needing assistance for something supposed to be 'natural' is upsetting to all of us. It doesn't matter if we are "lucky" to have a baby already, it doesn't mean that we can't be upset that it isn't our "dream family" KWIM?

I'm taking the Clomid even though I'm not really supposed to; well, he didn't say to stop and I had 2 refilles. He did say not in so many words, that with DH's sperm sample it would be a long shot. But what the hell? Can't hurt right?

MrsPeacefrog
September 16th, 2004, 08:16 AM
Andrea: before I got pregnant i used to wonder why a woman would get so upset to not be able to fall pregnant a 2nd time, I used to think... whats the big deal you have already had one! but then when it came time to have number 2 I felt ALL the same emotions you are feeling now and I was terrified i wouldn't be able to have my dream family and give my son a sibling. its only natural to feel that way, and don't feel guilty you have every right to go through the motions.... I have my fingers crossed for you! :hug1:

Brandi Jo
September 16th, 2004, 08:20 AM
:hug99: I know exactly what you are going through Andrea. I think everyone here does. I felt guilty when we started ttc #2 because so many of my online friends hadn't had any luck at all and still weren't blessed with a baby. Now that we have been trying for a year, all of those feelings of guilt have subsided. We (those of us with a child already) deserve it just as much as any one else does.

Chantal
September 16th, 2004, 09:03 AM
Ditto to what everyone else her has said... I am at a point now, where if someone tries to make me feel guilty for being upset at the challenges I face TTC'ing #2... they aren't worth my time anyhow.

Anyone about to start Clomid?

I take the first pill today  I honestly never thought this day would come!!

Bev
September 25th, 2004, 08:51 AM
:woo: Melissa! I'm beyond Clomid now unfortunately. But I was at 50mg and had no side effects at all.

Chantal
September 25th, 2004, 10:26 AM
Melissa... I get headaches while on Clomid... I also get hot flashes now that I take 100mg of it too. However, I find that drinking 2liters of water a day has helped me deal with the side effects much better. I do get moody too - but what can you expect when you are filling your body with hormones that it isn't used to dealing with on a monthly basis ;)

I find that the worst hits about the first day after the last pill - and goes on till about CD 12. Then it begins to taper off a bit.

Again, as I said --- I expect to not feel like my normal self... afterall with PCOS I dont ever have hormone surges and drops  So I allow myself to be  for a week or so ;)

Also - my CM is very scant. I did take EPO a few years ago when I ttc Kaitlyn... but it made me nauseous. So, again, the extra water intake helped me out there too.

MelissaNC
September 25th, 2004, 10:37 AM
Thanks so much!!

I've heard of people taking Robitusin (?)...does that help with the CM?

~Andrea~
September 25th, 2004, 11:11 AM
good luck with the clomid. I'm still waiting to O  or get AF. Today is CD 38 *sigh*

MelissaNC
September 25th, 2004, 03:31 PM
:bighug: Andrea! I hope something happens soon for you!

Bev
September 25th, 2004, 07:38 PM
Melissa, I normally have no EWCM to speak of. I took 1000mg EPO 3x day up to CD12 because you MUST NOT take it after you O. I couldn't temp so I didn't know when I was Oing. Then from about CD11 or 12 I would take 2 tsp of Extra Strength Robitusson Chest Congestion (the one with the only ingredient being guifasene or whatever it is) 3x day and I got lots of EWCM that way. Or at least 1 and maybe 2 days worth, which is lots for me.

Andrea, can you temp? Are they monitoring your follicles via u/s?

~Andrea~
September 25th, 2004, 10:17 PM
Beverly, with the exception of the past 2 days, I've been temping. :dunno: And no, no monitoring. I suppose to be monitored I'd have to go to an RE. I'm just not ready for that. I know of no practice with only women (like mine) and I just am NOT comfortable with a guy down there. I don't know why. Everyone told me once I gave birth I wouldn't care, but that wasn't true. I didn't want any men in there (except DH of course). The anestheologist (sp?) saw my :booty: but that was it.

Bev
September 26th, 2004, 08:24 AM
Andrea, my u/s techs were women and they made me put the probe up there, so they never saw anything except what was on the screen. You are in the usual position, but there is a big blanket over you and they just stick their hand there to manipulate the probe.

Hope you O soon. :)

~Andrea~
September 26th, 2004, 03:53 PM
thanks, me too  At this point, I am just hoping for AF so I can start round 2. I was put on 50 CD 5-9 this time. I am (myself) taking 100 CD 3-7 like when I got PG with Gabrielle.

Chantal
September 29th, 2004, 12:57 PM
Good luck Andrea!

Btw -- as you can tell by my profile comment... The Clomid Wench has arrived :firemad: I dont know why... I think its because I am coming to the realization that 100mg of Clomid did NOT make me ovulate... plus I know I am still about 20lbs heavier than I was when I conceived Kaitlyn... and I have my surgery next week... plus I would like to have another child in my daycare for that extra *oomph* of income. Oh and Dh is bugging my :moon2: right now too

MelissaNC
October 11th, 2004, 03:04 PM
I have a quick question...this might have already been answer, but..Does Clomid make you ovulate earlier or later? I honestly have no idea when I "should" ovulate, because I haven't had a normal cycle in years! But today is CD 19, and I feel like I may be o.

Is there an average CD that a person on Clomid should O?

~Andrea~
October 11th, 2004, 05:50 PM
I always ovulated late, but w/o it I don't O at all. I think you could be ovulating now. It sounds about right.

Bev
October 11th, 2004, 06:08 PM
I O'd on CD14, right where I was when my cycles were normal. :) Good luck.

Chantal
October 12th, 2004, 08:37 AM
I O'ed on CD 19 (when Clomid works  ) This upcoming cycle, I am taking the Clomid for 8 days instead of the usual 5 days... So, I am really hoping it makes me O earlier than usual... esp since Dh leaves me for 2 weeks to go hunting ~ right before the *predicted* O date, based on my history.

I am not looking forward to having the Clomid Crankies come knocking this time round  :silly:

~Andrea~
October 12th, 2004, 11:00 AM
guess you better go hunting Chantal  I missed O time my first round b/c DH was a way for work.

I am on day 2 of provera again. Clomid didn't work for me this time :blue: I am on CD 55

I am going to try 100 mg on CD 3-7 this time. I did 50 mg CD 5-9 this round. I got PG last time on 100/3-7 Why mess with a good thing :dunno:

Chantal
October 12th, 2004, 12:43 PM
:crossfing Good luck Andrea!!!

 re: hunting... I just hope I can get an O when I stay *trick or treat* ... at least, that's how Dh put it today when I told him how close it might be to his leaving.

I am VERY surprised at my fertility specialist requesting that I take the clomid for 8 days... I havent heard of anyone taking it for more than 5 days - regardless of doseage. Oh well, hopefully it makes my system kick into gear.

Maybe you and I will get that BFP next month Andrea ;)

MelissaNC
October 12th, 2004, 01:40 PM
I wish everyone tons of luck with this Clomid and that everyone gets a BFP soon!

I never noticed any side effects from the Clomid. The only thing I have noticed is that my bb's have been super sensitive (can't cross my arms over my chest or anything like that without it being really uncomfortable).

It seemed to calm me down a lot...Things didn't get to me like they usually did. Weird!

Back to CD 1 for me (after 60 days and provera again  ). I'm changing my clomid (w/o docs permission  ) to 100 mg CD 3-7. That's what I tok when I got my :bfp: with Gabrielle.

I am being whomped by Clomid so far this cycle. I am on day 3 of taking 100mg - and still have 5 more days to go... and already I am fighting the headaches and mood swings. It really sucks. But then again, no point explaining to my fellow Clomid Addicts eh ;)

Anyhow... I hope this is the last time I need/use Clomid. I certainly hope that taking the stuff for 8, versus 5 days makes me O earlier in this cycle too. :)

So - just a fair warning to my fellow Clomid'ers ;) DO NOT let your tablet stick to your tongue... its horrid!

Does anyone experience *brain farts* while on Clomid? Meaning, times where your brain just WONT function... like today, I reread the same sentence 4 times before I actually *got it*... and it was a childrens book  My brain just *farted*, nothing was making sense. It's so hard to explain properly, esp since I am having *after fart* effects now

I really hope we strike it rich this cycle  I dont know just how much my mind/body can handle another round of 8 days of Clomid at an increased doseage :jawdrop: I think I will file for divorce FOR my husband ;)

My mom is arriving on Friday to stay for the 2 weeks that Dh is gone hunting. I expected her to arrive Saturday evening... so it's going to make our final 12 hours of :sex: a bit interesting to say the least  Oh well - I will casually slip a pair of earplugs under mom's pillow

Melissa, I got PG 2nd time on clomid last time and I'm hoping to repeat again this time. I finished mine yesterday. :boink: starts soon. DH asked when we "have" to again   I hate telling him too much though because then he feels pressure and has a difficult time. Do you guys have the same problems?

Chantal
November 17th, 2004, 12:25 PM
Andrea... my Dh is just happy to get it ;) So he does not complain at all

Well... cycle #2 was a semi-bust. Dh left too soon before I OVULATED  I have had my 2nd EVER *normal* cycle... with AF arriving on her own. Last time, was the cycle before I conceived Kaitlyn. So I am really hoping Dh and I :sex: right on the mark this cycle.

I definetaly ovulated... I called Dr Reid today (my fertility specialist) who confirmed a *very high level of progesterone at 50* (blood test done at 7 DPO). I was a bit taken aback by his referring to 50 being a very high level... So I did a bit of reading... and found this
A progesterone test is done to confirm ovulation. When a follicle releases its egg, it becomes what is called a corpus luteum and produces progesterone. A level over 5 probably indicates some form of ovulation, but most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy. Some say the test may be more accurate if done first thing in the morning after fasting.

This leaves me wondering... if I only need 15 to have a successful ovulation... just HOW MANY eggies did I release at a level of 50 :jawdrop:

;) I am going to have some fun with this - with Dh tonight ;)

So, I start Clomid again tomorrow... at 100mg for 9 days :puke: My test date for this cycle is December 21st...and NO sooner ;)

How are things going with you Andrea???

~Andrea~
November 17th, 2004, 01:21 PM
I got a :bfn: today at CD 31, but that was expected. I'm not sure if I oed this cycle as I've been horrible about temping. I'll test again in about 2 weeks since in the past I didn't O until CD 26-28. :dunno: I HATE this crap though.

Okay...so It's day 30 or so for me today. I really don't think I O'd since my chart looks like a bunch of M's. I tested today (bad me I know) and it was negative of course. What so you think I should do? Should I call and have them see me before I get AF, do I wait for AF and go in w/ my AO chart??? I just want to get the most aggressive treatment I can right now. We have been going through IF for 4 years, I just don't want to wait another 4 before things are taken a little more seriously.

Any help would be great.

Hi Andrea :wavey: Good luck w/ the RE!!

can't hurt to call and ask their advice. FWIW when I got PG with DD I didn't O until CD 28 (on 100 mg clomid).

I had my endo biopsy. YEOUCH Not fun :nono: But it also wasn't as bad as I anticipated either. Results in 7-10 days and RE appointment tomorrow at noon.

Hi Casie!

I am told to wait it out until CD 40... if no AF and no :bfp: then I am to start provera, meaning I had an annovulatory cycle. However, my specialist also does a blood test on CD 24 to monitor my progesterone level -- if it rises above 15, then it confirms ovulation HAS occured (it doesnt indicate what day O happened, or confirm pregnancy... but it tells him if my body is responding to the dose of Clomid). If I see that my chart is doing the famous M/W pattern... I will call him long before CD 40 (usually around CD 30) to get the progesterone result... and then hop onto the Provera right away. No point in waiting for nothing...Kwim?

Good luck to you!

I am getting ready to start clomid next month.. Are there any surprises I should expect? My doctor stated that I may be slightly more moody, have difficulty sleeping, etc. I am just a little frazzled, nervous and anxious and would just feel a little more comfortable hearing from someone who has actually taken it..
